How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe apartment is well-equipped and is at a nice location. There is a supermarket close to the apartment and parking is easy to find.
There are two keypads at the same door. My friend cannot find the right one and it takes quite some time for us to figure it out.

Verified reviewThe room is well decorated, and it is spacious. It is close to the city centre and we could walk to the pier for whale watching.
The washroom is a bit small and the bathing area is not spacious enough, and made the floor of washroom all wet after bathing.

Verified reviewDecor, furnishings and amenity was all good and, very comfortable. Blackout blinds worked well in summer. Short walk to Reykjavik's main tourist/shopping/dining street. Several supermarkets 5 mins away.
Bathroom finish was a bit tired, the door scraped on opening/closing - a minor negative, not enough to dissuade me from staying again.

One of our apartment Toilet shower drain didn’t work. Water flooded all over the toilet. We notified the management about this issue. managements sent maintenance to take a look, but they didn’t perform any repairs. So we stopped taking shower for 2 days so that water wouldn’t come to main room area floor . No one offered discounts or apologies

Verified reviewSmart and modern. Good location, easy walk into town
Impossible not to flood bathroom when having a shower. A simple mop would have helped. Hob wasn’t working and the online chat was slow and not helpful. Not solved in the end. More toilet paper and dishwasher tabs should be in the apartment. Had to make contact to find out these were in the laundry room. Simple information in the apartment would have helped.

Verified reviewWe loved the location and the space was clean and modern but comfortable. There is a food hall about 4 minutes walk from the building and a Bonus supermarket so we cooked in the apartment quite a bit. We were also able to designate the hotel across the street as a pickup location for a tour, and we were able to park our rental car for free right outside. Very convenient!
We had a little trouble keeping the water in the shower from leaking, but there was a drain in the bathroom floor, so it was fine.

Verified reviewThe building is in safe location, close to mall, grocery etc. The apartment is spacious. Kitchen has enough pots, pans etc. There was extra pillows etc. Free laundry is very convenient.
The bathroom could have been cleaner. The smell of sulfur in the city water although expected is very annoying.

Verified reviewVery clean. Comfortable beds. Great water pressure.
A welcome packet or page giving some in tips and advise would have been helpful. A stool to be able to reach the only windows would have been nice. Door stoppers to prop doors open needed. Shower was missing a threshold so water escaped onto bathroom floor. This water rather than go to the bathroom drain, went towards the toilet. Ice cube trays would have been nice. Paid for a late check out, but our code to our unit stopped working the last morning. Had to call multiple times to get it working.

Sulphur smell in water , no live agents or staff on site , no restaurant on site, no vending machine
Dear Tina, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate you bringing these points to our attention, as they help us provide a better experience for our guests. The slightly sulphurous smell in the water is a natural characteristic of the hot water in Iceland. It comes from the geothermal heated water that springs directly from the earth. This is something Icelandic people are very proud of, as it's a testament to our country's unique volcanic nature and commitment to clean, sustainable energy. We understand it can be surprising for those not used to it, and we apologize if it caused you any discomfort. Our advertisements clearly state that we are a self-check-in property and do not have a physical reception or staff on site. This allows us to offer our guests more flexibility and privacy during their stay. While we don't have a restaurant or vending machine on the property, there are two excellent restaurants, The Grillmarket and Haust, within a 10-15 minute walk from the apartment. We hope this information helps clarify some of the points you raised. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced and hope you enjoyed your visit to Iceland. Best Regards, Sabrina, Heimaleiga Team
