How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewIt is important to note that, in general, the level of service in Iceland is very low and costs are very high. Therefore, it makes no sense to give very high ratings. A high rating is given if the hotel/apartment is fantastic and equipped with all amenities or if the value for money is exceptional. Neither of these two cases applies in Iceland. The feeling that all tourists have is that they are victims of a system where everyone tries to earn as much as possible in the few months when there is high demand. The entire hospitality policy is therefore flawed. Let's move on to the accommodation: Close to the airport and clean...but very expansive for what you get
Value for money not good. The bathroom is completely inadequate. The sink is tiny, there is no bidet (and being Italian, cleanliness is important to us). Furthermore, I don't know what Icelanders are used to, but one medium-sized towel per person seems insufficient to me.

My worst experience through Booking.com after more than 10 years using it for personal travelling. Which I’ll look for change in the future. Iceland is expensive, but this is a robbery, a big one. And Booking.com collects its own margin. How does Booking.com allow such type of properties to be comercialized? No staff to help, other self-service hotels in Iceland had at least until 10pm one person at the hotel. All the hotel, and the room 103 need to be closed for total refurbishement, it is everything more than used. It is not proper. Hotel is not clean, vacuum cleaner abandoned at the entry hall, room not clean and towels from last guest were still in the room. Towels provided at the room were as the hotel, all torn and destroyed after years of service. I could continue, but this hotel and Booking.com don’t deserve I continue to waiste my time. Future trips ahead, there are other platforms as Aribnb and plus, certainly I’ll look at it.

Verified reviewWe stayed here the night before catching an early flight. It was alright for this purpose. Bed was comfortable enough Wifi was good, easy walk to restaurants and shops nearby.
This room was extremely hot, seemed to have some underfloor heating in patches that could not be turned off. No way to cool the room down. Door to "courtyard" was broken and unable to be opened. Bathroom was TINY and extremely close to the bed, really not well set up for more than 1 person. Very expensive for an extremely average room.

Verified reviewWe travel a lot and use booking.com and rarely write reviews but this hotel was so bad we felt like we had to warn people. Our first choice hotel was cancelled and in desperation stayed at Duus, which was extremely overpriced. The hotel is self check in and we never saw any staff. There were no towels of any kind in our room and there was one very small sleeping pillow. We were not able to take a shower or wash up without a towel which is an important amenity in my view. The hotel sent us a lengthy email with instructions to email or call with problems 24/7 and we emailed them about the towels and we never got any response even after we left. I later got in touch with them through booking and they claimed to have never gotten the email and blamed me for communicating through the email that they sent me and not booking.com. The place was dark and dreary with worn carpet with thread hanging out. The sign outside (with more instructions) was banging on the cement walkway every time the wind blew and it kept me up all night. It slammed down so regularly that I actually could anticipate the sound. Wind gust,slam slam,quiet, wind gust slam,slam,quiet over and over. The owner of this so called hotel obviously has no pride of ownership. Top ten worst place that we’ve stayed.

There is no staff at rhe recrption, it's self check-in and check-out. We asked the staff at the restaurant Duus about a shuttle service. They were very unfriendly. We had to call the taxy ouerself because there is no shuttle service to the airport.

The mid age Icelandic/American female staff was very rude and scolded my husband and I upon arrival as if she was sending 2 children up to their rooms. I was simply giving the woman a compliment on her English and she said “Alright guys” in a loud rude range as if she was asking me to be quiet and for my husband and I to leave the front desk and go upstairs. It was 6 pm when we arrived and she non inviting to the guests. & the restaurant in the hotel serves no breakfasts or lunch and doesn’t open until 5 pm, so we had to leave the hotel to go find food.

Verified reviewHotel location is good for an overnight between Icelandair flights. Just a 10- minute taxi ride from KEF.
We booked the only double room available for our night's stay, paying more than we would have liked but justified that with the "ocean view" description. Upon arrival, we found that our room, #103, was a floor below the entry, on ground level on the back side of the building, and had that basement room feeling. Though the room was on the water side, there was no ocean view, only a concrete/wooden half wall and parking lot. No hotel staff is onsite, but we used the lobby phone provided to contact an employee, who told us the hotel was fully booked, and no room change was possible. We took pictures of the misrepresented room and it's "ocean view" to send by email to the hotel. A response from a hotel representative, Ivan, let us know he had forwarded our message to Management, and subsequently that Management offered no refund or partial refund. We won't go back.

Verified review- A practical place to stay at near the airport. - The surrounding area is mostly beach side and you have the giant's cave behind the hotel. - They have a self check in which is convenient.
- The restaurant only opens after 5 and there is nothing else in the hotel.

Verified reviewIt was in keflavik, close to airport. A town that was built around American army base, so not the most picturesque. The hotel has restauraunt and the town had some good places to eat.
Older hotel, shower and toilet in room, but didn't have to share which was a bonus.

There was no staff on site except a maintenance person. The restaurant was closed. I had a problem and I called the hotel. They told me they couldn’t help as I had booked with Booking.com. They gave me a phone number to call for Booking.com. When I called Booking.com I talked to some one in Hong Kong who told me they couldn’t help me over the phone. When I told them I was afraid to share credit card information over an insecure line agent she could not help me and hung up on me.

We requested a room without stairs as my 87 year old mother has mobility issues. We were told that this would be possible. When we arrived we were assigned a room with stairs inside the room in order to access the bathroom as well as the door to enter and exit the room. This was a significant issue for us that was not resolved as the hotel was fully booked
