We had stayed 2 years ago and I had much better rooms. We love the location b/c we have to go to the bus station to begin and end our horse riding tours. This time I was stuck with room #4 where I have to walk out of the bedroom in an open area to a bathroom. Being sick and doing this was not very fun.

I had paid for the first night knowing I would arrive in the morning and wanting to get in my room and sleep. Instead, I got sick on the plane and had to be lifted off the plane and taken to the hospital, so I didn't check in until about 3 pm. Even though I had not used the room at all the first night, and I was still not feeling well with a migraine, the staff person insisted I had to leave the room and lied to me, telling me someone was actually waiting for the room. When I returned to the guest house 4 hours later, the room was still unoccupied. He could easily have let me stay another 1-2 hours in bed before making me leave the room.

Location is perfect. 5 minute walk to downtown!

The ONLY complaint was the bed in rm 12 was two singles pushed together. Would have been much more comfortable as a full or queen bed. Not really a complaint, just a suggestion.

Great access to sights, but far enough away from downtown so that it was quiet in the evenings.

    Stairways a bit narrow

Great location, friendly family, clean and cozy. The kitchen and dining area was big and we liked the free food basket of leftovers from past travelers; good way to avoid waste and supplement breakfast.

    Great location and friendly staff.

It’s a little pricey but everything in Reykjavik is.

Great location, right opposite the Hallgrímskirkja church and about a 15 minute walk away from rainbow street. We stayed here for 2 nights and since it was a weekend we could park for free opposite the building in the church parking lot. The entire house is very cozy, warm and clean. The kitchen is well equipped, the house also had a nice dining room. Our rooms were sufficiently spacious with an attached bathroom We had read from reviews that the water in the washrooms smell of sulphur and this was the case, since we already knew about it we really didn’t mind it and honestly it added to the charm of this place. The washroom was good for us but some people may find it a little small We really loved our stay here, thank you for having us !

The apartment was near the center, but fairly quiet. We stayed our last night out of 10 that were mostly in hostels/huts and were able to do laundry and regroup after 6 days hiking. The kitchen was compact and perfect for our needs. The host was generous with supplies like shower soap, extra food/drinks & laundry soap.

Nothing negative. Except naming this adjacent property “Eric the Red” was confusing as we walked past another, maybe the primary, Eric the Red guest house a couple blocks away. When we selected “rooms”, we were actually selecting among several properties instead of one location. This could have caused problems if your group were larger.

Fantastic Stay at Eric the Red Guesthouse I had a wonderful time at Eric the Red House! The room was beautifully decorated with truly authentic furniture, and both the room and the dining area were arranged with great taste 😍 The entire place was immaculately clean. The shared shower room was also a highlight—it was very large and pristine when I first used it. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook and enjoy a meal. The host was very nice and responsive - he kindly allowed us to take a shower after running the marathon, even though we had already checked out of the room ☺️ Overall, a lovely, clean, and charming place to stay. I highly recommend it!
