How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLovely and simple room. Sink inside room is very convenient. 2 toilets and 2 showers on our floor was very generous abd both were modern and clean. We made use of the stove, microwave, refrigerador, coffee machina, dining room and street parking. Very close to all the acción and landmarks.

Verified reviewGuesthouse is easily accessible and instructions were very clear. I wanted to leave my luggage in luggage room ahead of my check in and it wasn't a problem. Shared bathroom was clean.
The equipment is a bit older and the entrance door does not close automatically. The guesthouse is easily accessible from the street.

Breakfast is not worth the money. 23euro for 1croissant, 1bun, 1jam, 1apple, 1slice of cheese and 1juice.

This is a hostel not a guesthouse. Bathroom shared between 4 rooms of people. We were basically underground so had to have our small window open, was on street level, literally, so seeing feet go by. Made it very noisy all night but needed air. The Breakfast was terrible rotten bananas and no cutlery to spread the jam on croissant or bun and certainly not worth the extra money. Asked twice for twin beds as travelling with my teenage son. Beds were together, easy to separate but clearly hadn’t been for a long time as the floor was filthy once moved. Don’t like leaving bad reviews but this was just one disappointment after another.

Very noisy next to the main road and you hear everything from the other guests. Very impersonal, putting a breakfast bag in front of your door, also very unhygienic. Pictures are simply selling a wrong image, no breakfast buffet or anything like that. Shared bathroom and toilet. Should be better portrayed in the images! Value for money very bad.

Verified reviewThe location was fantastic, and check-in/check-out were very easy, with all the necessary information provided in advance. The room was spacious, comfortable, and nicely furnished. The shared bathroom setup in practice meant two large bathrooms for four rooms—no queues at all.
The only thing I missed was the possibility to boil water for tea or coffee.

Verified reviewThe room was very small but big enough for one person for a couple of nights. The room, 2 bathrooms with the toilet on the floor were very clean. I saw a kitchen with a spacious seating area, but I didn't use it. The accommodation was closed to the city centre.
I didn't see in the instructions how/ where to use the code to enter the building. There were about 4 doors around. I was lucky that coming in, someone opened the door for me and explained the mechanism. I have never seen such thing that the number display was under the door handle, which lightens up once you run your hand under the door handle. Maybe it is obvious for some travellers, but it wasn't obvious for me and some other guests too.

My room was in the lower floor and whilst it was clean etc there was a bit of a smell from the drains, which was a shame.

Verified reviewNice location away from tourist noise, but still very walkable to major downtown locations. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly! I would book this again next time I'm in Reykjavik.
Only one small downside based on my personal preferences, which was the traffic noise from the road. I used headphones and it completely fixed the issue.

Verified reviewLoved the included breakfast and the spaciousness of the room. Sharing a bathroom was not a problem because there were 2 bathrooms for 4 rooms. The location was great for walking to neighborhoods in many directions. Also, it is close to a huge stunning park, and a neighborhood swimming pool with many hot tubs!
The communal coffee maker was dismal, and could easily be improved!

Verified reviewThis was a great place for me to stay as a solo traveler in Reykjavik for the first time. The room was spacious, and sharing a bathroom with one other room on the hall was never a problem. The included breakfast, which was delivered every morning, was delightful - the bread and croissant so fresh and tasty, a piece of fruit and a slice of cheese for protein. I never used the butter, jam or fruit juice so I appreciated the communal fridge with a "free" top shelf where I could leave these for someone else. I also appreciated that there was a closet to store luggage if you arrived before or stayed after check in/out. There is also a huge, beautiful park a block away that was lovely to walk through and houses one of the 3 Reykjavik Art Museums.
The coffee situation could definitely be improved. Maybe someone made a batch each morning in the machine in the communal dining area, but it dripped from the coffee maker into a plastic tub which meant it was cold and plastic tasting. Instead, I went into town for a fresh hot coffee every morning.
