How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFriendly staff, great breakfast, unique location
Unfortunately due to geothermal activity you could smell the sulfur but it was not too bad or intrusive

The pictures are very flattering vs reality. It’s a nice place but … very different than the professional pics.

Verified reviewLocation of the Hotel was excellent, just by the river and all around you can see steam going out of the earth! Clean and comfortable rooms. Polite and helpful personnel.

Verified reviewThe hot tub was wonderful and relaxing, and so was the location directly at the river with the option for a cold plunge. Very friendly staff at the hotel make the stay nice, and the breakfast was wonderful too. A very nice dine-in restaurant is also part of the hotel (we didn't try it).
The room as well as some of the facilities are a bit outdated. Our room had a small shower and bathroom, and unfortunately there was also some mold in the bathroom as well as the window frame. I didn't look inviting. Same applies to the sauna and relax room, which seemed a bit dated and uninviting to us.

Verified reviewThe location is just superb, right next to a river, with rolling hills behind. The hot tubs are great - naturally heated as far as I could tell and our skin felt amazing afterwards. The curtains were nice and dark, and the sound of the river flowing past at night made for a good sleep.
The only thing I could possibly complain about is the expense. As a family of four, we had to get two rooms, which made for an expensive stay. But still worth it as a special treat for the family.

Dear Stefan, Thank you for your review :) We are happy to hear that you liked some things with us here at Frost and Fire. I could not recommend more a room with river view if you happen to visit us again one. Rooms 1 and 2 are without a view and room 1 faces the natural hot spring outside :) Fun fact: The first four letters in the name of our town (Hveragerði) means natural hot spring so there are a lot of them here :D Hopefully we will welcome you again one day. Best regards, Stella with Frost and Fire team

Verified reviewThe rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Unfortunatly, we arrived on a very rainy evening and the rain persisted through the following morning so we could do any walking around. If the weather would have been just a bit nicer (i.e. raining instead of a downpour) there is a lovely river and what looked like a nice hike that we would have loved to explore. We ate in town (not at the hotel) but it is convenietly located near several restaurants.
Dear Laura, Thank you for your review, I agree with you :) Iceland and our lovely town would be much nicer if we had less rain :) :) :) But we are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us even though it rained so much. Hopefully we will welcome you again one day. All the best, Stella with Frost and Fire team.

Verified reviewThe spa (two small hot pools, sauna) with a view over the river and geothermal activity of the hill, the restaurant (not included, you pay extra for dinner, but it was really incredible)
Completely overpriced : they make it look like a fancy hotel, but the bathroom is minuscule and dirty, there's no place to hang your towels, the floor gets flooded with every shower. We had a corner room with view over the river which is nice, but one side was towards the restaurant so you have to keep the curtains closed at all times. The breakfast buffet was not well maintained (we had to ask for cutlery, the hot water for tea was empty). We do not recommend it unfortunately.

Verified reviewOn the river.
Was our last of 9 different hotels and by far our least favorite. Definitely looks way nicer in pictures. Gave me a creepy vibe… I would’ve left but it was too late to find another hotel. Walls are paper thin. The confirmation says checkin runs until 10pm but I received an email before 9pm saying staff would no longer be available to help us check in. They were kind about it, but still was a little off-putting. Also they do not serve breakfast until 8am and we had to leave early so we did not get breakfast. Everywhere else we stayed served breakfast at 7am. Would not recommend this hotel.

Verified reviewThis was my second time at this hotel and my 5th in Iceland. It is really worth a splurge for the early am or late night hottub on the river and stellar breakfast.
Wish the hotub were open all night with super quiet hours.

Verified reviewGreat location with wonderful views. Short drive to longest zip wire in Ice-land (not my thing normally but it was actually good fun with stunning views) and walk to the natural thermal river. Walking distance through the reserve to the waterfall and gardens. Friendly l staff. Great breakfast and on-site restaurant for dinner. Relaxation room.
The hot-tub could have been warmer.
