Geysir Hestar is a wonderful place to stay when you are doing the golden circle. A cosy welcoming guesthouse in the countryside, you can see the geysir area from your window - and islandic horses. We combined our stay with a horseback ride and Fanny was a fabulous guide. Ella, who is managing the guesthouse, will help you with all the questions you have.

Friendly owner & staff took time to show me around. All lodging details were designed for comfortable, simple living. Common room was uncommonly well appointed.

Beautiful location, nice restaurant nearby and an amazing trampoline for my daughter to play right in front of the restaurant. I also liked the horse back riding lesson, but they were retty expensive

A bit on the pricey side but in the end all iceland is.

This was by far the best maintained of our accommodations in Iceland, and the one with the friendliest staff. I don't know whether the young ladies who attended us were employees or family members of the proprietors, but each one was a ray of sunshine who seemed genuinely happy about our presence. The location is very good: you can actually see Strokkur (in the distance) from the windows; Brúarfoss is only a few minutes away by car; Gullfoss and Þingvellir are nearby as well. I liked that the kitchen/dining area had flair (e.g. with old kitchen appliances converted into light fixtures, and items that appeared to have been aged deliberately to give them a well-worn look). The showers had apparently premium grade shower gel, shampoo and even conditioner for the guests, which was a nice touch. The shared kitchen and shared toilets/showers were all clean and in good condition. WiFi was OK.

The rooms in the guest house were definitely on the small side, with, I think, only two beds and a chair each (the idea, apparently, isn't for you to stay here long enough to warrant unpacking). A member of staff warned us to only open windows that had insect screens, because otherwise blood-sucking flies would get in; but only one of our two rooms had a window with a screen, so we couldn't air the other. In the rooms, there was nowhere to hang towels to dry. The bed was too soft for me. (Since this is a veritable compound with several buildings, it's possible that the situation is different in other types of rooms.) The number of bathrooms in the large guest house was lower than ideal. The shower cabin I ended up using was so small I barely fit in it (I'm not fat, just tall). I think some of the others might have been bigger. In the kitchen, while all the appliances you'd expect are there (except a freezer, and, I think, an oven), there isn't enough counter space for several groups to use them simultaneously -- if you want to use the mini hob, you'll have to put the toaster and kettle away and vice versa. The fridge was also pretty small for the amount of people who could want to store stuff in it. Trash separation for recycling didn't seem to be implemented very thoroughly, with just two small bins provided in the kitchen. I found all the spiritual/motivational platitudes posted everywhere to be cringe-worthy, but I suppose other people must like them.

A very friendly greeting and tour from the host. We stayed in a quadruple room, with shared bath. The facilities were very clean. It was surprisingly quiet given the number of guests (mind you were were furthest from the kitchen & bathrooms). Beautiful views, especially from the kitchen and if you have a non-parking lot view.

The kitchen area needs more tables for the number of guests. It was tricky sorting out breakfast with all the other guests. We visited during high season.

The rooms were comfortable, the kitchen and shared bathroom facilities were clean and well maintained. The location was perfectly situated for visiting the geyser and Gulfoss. Also close to Bruarfoss, which is a wonderful hike and perhaps an even more photogenic series of falls than Gulfoss, as the water is almost a turquoise blue. But of course the highlight of a stay at Geysir Hestar is the gorgeous Icelandic horses and the opportunity to ride and experience this striking landscape on horseback. Wonderful friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely return if in Iceland again and recommend to friends.

Not applicable. There is the opportunity to do simple meal prep and self-catering in shared kitchen at Geysir Hestar, but make a stop in Fludir or Selfoss for groceries, as those are closest shopping options.
