How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewvery good location, we walked around the whole center of Reykjavik. Also liked the self check-in - we arrived at 2 am and checked in without problem
only 1 bathroom, I had to wait several times until it was free

Verified reviewGreat location - but some bench in the city center are extremely well located too, simply we would dye of cold sleeping on it.
I am sick of these places that sell themself as “guesthouse” without offering the actual service that this implies. Besides the fact that the kitchen is not a kitchen and that one restroom/bathroom is too little for an entire floor, everybody should acknowledge that the place is INCREDIBLY NOOSY. We may sleep directly in the bar located in front that the music would not be louder. It is litteraly impossible to sleep. How is it possible to pretend that the place is fine for guesthousing ? Serious construction are required to manage this noise issues (which by the way also implies the noise of the building itself : slamming doors, cracking floor etc). The owner doesnt want to assume these expenses ? It is perfectly fine ! Just don’t guesthouse then.

Verified reviewClean and comfortable and photos of my room were accurate. Kitchen had a microwave and tea and coffee. Great location in the centre of town in a quiet location.
You could hear other guests coming and going as it is an old cottage but it was quiet overnight.

Verified reviewThe location is spot on to explore Reykjavik. Not very far from the main bus station either, if you want to use the bus for your commute to the airport. Also ,there is a parking space (not the property's but you can use to load/unload your campervan. The house was very cute and warm , the room was spacious and welcoming. Also nice kitchen space and warm bathroom .
There wasn't something that we particularly didn't like. Maybe we would like a bit earlier check in but OK, we could still leave our luggage early enough.. I guess all hotels are like this nowadays.

Verified reviewThe bed was super comfortable and the room was very clean. Guests were quiet and considerate. Location could not have been better, right off the main pedestrian street, near restaurants, bars, and shops. Easy, clear instructions on how to get in.
A nearby bar was playing extremely loud music til very late.

Small only one toilet ( and one shower ) for 4 rooms that if everybodies is on couple will be 8 persons . No rug for the shower a lot of water in the bathroom so no cool for the others. They give you only one towel not one big and one small. The sink in the room doesn t have water pressure and is so small and not build well that is useful. If you try to brush just your teeth it will be a lake in the room. No possible to cook.

Verified reviewIt's a great location and value for money as a guest house.
There are some steps to access the property which makes lugging your suitcase up a little difficult.

Verified reviewThe place was clean, easy to check in and check out. Information/Communication from hosts was very good.
Close to the bars, live music playing all night long.Quite nosy also within the guest house were we hear easily the other rooms (thin walls & doors). Quite pricey for that shared bathroom with no ustensils (hair dryer, shampoo,..).

Verified reviewComfortable beds. Central location. Easy check in method.
Small shared bathroom didn’t have soap and shampoo. Small shared kitchen didn’t have any cooking top, only microwave, electrical kettle, and toaster. It did have many plates, bowls, cups and glasses, though. Attic room has roof beams just over the bed, so you tend to bump your head with the beams.

Verified reviewEasy check in. Clean place.
Way too noisy, would not recommend, could not sleep well. Had a very bad stay! - The doors were making so much noise, why not maintain them so they won’t crack every time somebody opens or closes their door? Very irritating, especially during the night when everybody gets in at different times or goes to the toilet at any moment. Even worst with my bedroom being next to the toilet. - The bar next door plays very loud and hard music during the night. Disturbing and prevents the guests from going to sleep, even with ear plugs. I was irritated by all that noise, especially as I needed my energy during the day but was tired after two rough nights.

Verified reviewVery charming rooms on an amazing location. We really appreciate the little things like coffee in the morning, the airport shuttle if needed and the well decorated rooms.
The little sink on the wall of our room was nice to have but the little shelf above it limited it's use. The shells should be moved to the side. The biggest and only complaint was that the shower was either just warm at best or my several minutes of fiddling didn't do that magic thing to make it hotter whatever that was.

Verified reviewThe location was great and the facilities were very clean. I had everything I needed.
The parking instructions were a little vague for someone that doesn't live in Reykjavik or even Iceland. I really didn't know what they even meant. When I ask the host for more details they sent me the check-in instructions again that they had already sent me. Not everyone knows the parking system of Reykjavik. The waitress at a restaurant I ate at told me about the Parka app and explained the parking system downtown and that overnight was free. That should definitely be something that is mentioned in the check-in instructions or in a welcome book in the unit. I also wasn't sure how to use the coffee pot and there were no instructions for that either. As a host myself it's important to understand that guests sometimes are not from the same country and things are different so instructions are pretty important especially when your car may be towed or for someone that loves coffee.

Verified reviewGettir is perfectly situated and at night it is quiet in spite of being on the main drag. It is an easy walk to bus stop 6 at the Culture House. Bathroom sharing was no problem with only one other room.
My room was very small with barely enough room to move around. However the adjoining kitchen and bathroom gave a sense of more space.

A few things you need to be aware of, that can be a bit misleading when reading through the description of the place: 1. There is only ONE shared bathroom and toilet (both in one room!) for all 5 rooms (potentially 10 people). 2. Kitchen has NO stove top only toaster and microwave, according to the owner it’s not meant for cooking - unfortunately we didn’t know that and had bought quite expensive food already for our last night in Iceland and were looking forward to a night in. 3. When I booked it still stated on-site car park in the ad (it has since been changed). I specifically booked this place because of the location and the car park - when we arrived in pouring rain we discovered there was NO car park only payed street parking, no spots available close by so had to walk quite a bit in the rain. 4. No hairdryer provided, you have to have your own or leave the house with wet hair. 5. The toiletries provided is a family pack of Palmolive shower gel, NO shampoo or conditioner. Had we known all of this we would have not stayed there.
Hihi Stefanie, yes you misinterpret everything and expect everything to be there for you for the price you got to stay in the center. Next time you sure need to spend at least double to meet all your expectations or next time make sure you read all the info about the place you book for not to wrongfully criticize the place afterwards like you have done here. Just be grateful that there were at least body soap, coffee etc. for you. Nowhere was there stated that we provide free parking, downtown it is not possible...is only paid street parking and if you had taken a better look at the info provided you would have seen that. I changed the listing about the paid car park after you... to make it even more clear. About the hairdryer, we once did offer it until it was stolen. After that we decide not to buy new one since people don't think about others when using it ..f.ex. taking into their rooms and not return it or use it too early or in the middle of the night to wake up our guests. So yes bring your own if you can not have wet hair. We have 2 bathrooms for 7 rooms. None of this you mentioned have ever been a problem for our guests before. We have kitchenette with toaster, microwave, fridge, coffee and tea facilities. You also forgot to mention that I personally offered to buy your steak because you couldn't cook it there, which was your misunderstanding and that is really nice offer. Regards,Olga

Verified reviewThe bed room was clean and comfortable. Good location
There was risk of locking your self out of your room if you didn’t take the key. You had to take the key to the bathroom. Owners could only be contacted through the booking.com site. With this arrangement it would be a complete disaster if you accidentally locked your self out before a tour or flight. There was a sign saying not to shower between 10pm and 8am as they were quiet hours. Not great if you have a tour or early flight especially if you are a female and it’s that time of month. The down stairs shower had lukewarm water and it was mouldy.
