Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing it was all great
The property is really beautiful - the decor is tasteful, warm and friendly. It has a hot tub and a cold plunge and a huge kitchen. There is a garden/conservatory linking the kitchen to the house which is simply wonderful filled with amazing plants with lots of seating. It is nothing like anywhere else we have stayed and stands out from the rest of the accommodation available in Iceland.

The rooms are cozy, well maintained and equipped. Beds are superb. The kitchen and sitting area offer room for homely interaction with other guests. No dinner or breakfast but this is known beforehand. A very relaxed place to start your golden circle adventure! Take some supplies with you. There are fridges at the hotel and a supermarket 15 minutes away.

United StatesIf there is an improvement, the mattress is very soft and the bed makes lots of noise with the slightest move. Other than that, everything is perfect.
The house is so unique and beautifully designed. I felt at home and relaxed. The garden and kitchen are the main attractions. I love having the huge kitchen space and dining area to use. It was very surreal siting in the garden with the midnight light and contemplated on life. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Old School House. Honestly, part of me wants to gatekeep this place – but of course I won’t. As a half-Icelandic person, this has definitely become one of my new favorite spots to stay in the countryside. We loved the garden, which was open for everyone to use. We actually ended up staying in for both dinner and breakfast, even though we had plans to go out and eat at restaurants. But the garden was just too cozy – we couldn’t resist. We also really enjoyed the hot tub and had an amazing evening watching the sunset. The kitchen and bedrooms were super clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to Iceland. Magnea and Greg were so lovely and welcoming. You can really feel that they care and want you to have the best stay possible. 10/10, would recommend!:))

Lovely owners and absolutely charming little hotel/hostel with much attention to detail and a personal touch to everything. Our kids loved the hot and cold tub. The Old School House features a stunning greenhouse sitting area, perfect for relaxing, reading and chatting (under a heating lamp when it gets too cool). Beds were very comfy. Good distance from sweet little town of Selfoss and good location for exploring the Golden Triangle on your way back to Reykjavik if that's were you are heading.

The kitchen was very spacious and impeccably cleaned. Hosts were very friendly and kind. We didn’t get a chance to try the hot tub and cold plunge but I was happy they were there.

Very good location for doing the golden circle route. The property is well maintained and nicely decorated. The owners stay at the property. They were very welcoming and helped us settle down. Our room had one queen bed and two built in bunk beds for the kids. The kids loved their bunk beds. They have a nice glass house, hot tub and a big kitchen to accommodate the guests. Overall a fantastic stay.

Location was beautiful and quiet, perfect for my first night in Iceland after a long flight. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept in while traveling. Beautifully decorated, felt like home. The massive outdoor garden porch space was covered, protected from elements, thought I was lucky with sunny weather. I wish I could have spent more time in this area. Kitchen was more than fully stocked, plenty of space and very clean. Wonderful hosts.

GermanyWe had a wonderful stay at Gaulverjaskoli. Magnea and Greg are very warm hosts and have created a charming place to stay. The rooms are very cozy and clean and have everything you need. The shared kitchen and the charming winter garden were also great. It was a wonderful place to linger and chat with the other guests. The kitchen itself is well equipped for cooking. Magnea and Greg had very good recommendations for activities in the area and selfoss was a great base for horse riding, driving to the golden circle and hiking to hot springs. We can highly recommend this accommodation.

Beautiful house inside and outside. It really feels that the hosts love their house and everything is done with love and care. There’s an awesome garden with many plants. Everything is fresh new and we would really recommend this place for our friends who visit Iceland.

ItalyUnfortunately, since the owners were renovating, the hot tub was closed, which was disappointing as that was one of the reasons we chose the place. Also, the room was quite small for four people.
The house was beautiful and the owners just renovated it. The owners are very friendly people and made us feel at home. The place has a very large kitchen space with tables and everything you need to cook. The location is also great as it is very close to Selfoss but far enough to be isolated and far from noise.

United StatesI loved everything about this home. The location was perfect - It’s right on the way to all the best things along the south coast - only 12 mins from Selfoss, it was so quiet at night, super great place to see the stars or northern lights (from the very cozy hot tub on the patio), the greenhouse garden is to die for and the owners were AMAZING and SO lovely to chat to.
