How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis is an older property so there will be noise from other guests and the street below. Be prepared with some earplugs!

Verified reviewThe location was amazing. It’s right on the water. We also had a room over looking the lake.
Its an old post office converted to a hotel. As with any old building, it’s creaky. Even when you walk the floor would creak. The bathroom was super tiny and barely enough space to move around.

Verified reviewQuirky property with a lovely view over lake and mountains.
We weren’t advised about the shared kitchen/breakfast room at check in. I read it in the details of the room and we had to figure out how to access it. It would have been good to have this explained.

Verified reviewDelightful place in a delightful town! I believe they take care of three locations along with an excellent restaurant. From the checkin in the restaurant to staff helping me with the digital code to comfortable bed and good shower, it was a pleasant experience all around. The room I had is a bit small but adequate for one person. I always appreciate private bathroom and although I didn't use them there appeared to be good shared kitchen facilities. Parking at hotel, supermarket across the street and a wonderful view of the lagoon and fjord. A nice walk around the lagoon relaxed me. The restaurant had excellent food for both dinner and breakfast (extra cost). So all my needs fulfilled!
There sounded like a disco next door that was fairly loud until 11 PM. It was a Saturday night.

Verified reviewLoved the hotel, resturant and the town! Rooms were right balance of tradition and modern. Great communal areas and dinner was the best meal I have had in Iceland!
Nothing!

Verified reviewIt was in a great location and was great value for money.
The room was very small and the building itself looked a bit run down in places but this didn't detract from my stay at all.

Verified reviewGood WIFI New and renovated kitchen for guest use
The entire structure of the building is made of wood and everything creaks with every step. The bed is too worn out and soft. There is a bad smell in the room. It smelled like dirty carpet. Very poor cleaning. The sink is so small that you can't even wash your hands in it. Old and dirty furniture.
Dear Diego, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We genuinely appreciate all feedback, as it helps us improve the quality of our service and facilities. We’re glad to hear you appreciated the strong Wi-Fi and the newly renovated guest kitchen — these are features we’ve worked hard to provide for a comfortable stay. We’re sorry to learn, however, that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Our building is indeed a traditional wooden structure, and while it adds to the charm and character of the place, we understand that creaking can be a concern for some guests. Regarding your comments on the bed comfort, room smell, cleanliness, and furniture, we take these matters seriously. We have passed your feedback on to our housekeeping and maintenance teams to investigate further and take immediate action where needed. We also acknowledge the issue with the small sink — these are part of the compact design in some of our rooms, and we understand this may not suit everyone’s preferences. Your observations are extremely valuable to us as we continue to make improvements. Should you choose to stay with us again, we would be happy to offer alternative room options and ensure a more comfortable experience. Thank you once again for your honest feedback. Warm regards, Dusana Guest Services / Management

Verified reviewThis hotel was nice surprise. Ordered because couldn’t get anything in Egilsstadir, but at the end it was very good experience. The town itself is worth to stop by- i loved it the most while travelling ring road- it is small and cozy, located by fjord. And the hotel is in old house, but inside perfectly equipped. Common kitchen was very useful- all what is needed to arrange small picknick just outside the hotel (there is a table).
Breakfast is not included and should be bought separately, it is served in the hotel next doors. Price per person is 3000isk, but nothing special, pretty basic.
Dear Jelena Thank you for your kind review! We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and appreciated both the hotel and the charm of our town. We truly value your feedback and hope to welcome you again someday. Dorian Aldan Reception

Verified reviewLocation, room was well furnished and cozy. Common kitchen new and very well furnished
The single bed in our room was a bit small and it fits better kids than adults. Decor was a bit basic but still ok. Pillows were extremely thin, even with two.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We are glad to hear you enjoyed the location, your cozy room, and the well-equipped common kitchen. We really appreciate your feedback regarding the single bed and pillows — helpful for us to know where we can improve the comfort of our guests. We will certainly take this into account for future updates. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back again!
