How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWas a cool touristy viking theme.breakfast was really good. Staff were freindly.
Construction was a bit annoying but i think was reflected in price. Restaurant across the way was a bit of a tourist trap. Food was subpar and expensive. Parking was our biggest complaint as one night we had to park a couple blocks away?

Verified reviewReally friendly and helpful staff, cottage was a good size for a family.
The hot tub was cold, (apparently had just been cleaned) but took ages to heat up so we gave up. Area was surrounded by building work. Also the most offensive key fob I have ever seen.
Hi Clare :) Thank you for your kind words about our staff and the cottage size! We're sorry to hear about the issues with the hot tub and the construction work nearby. We’ll address the heating delay and work to improve the guest experience. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the key fob, and will review this for future improvements. Best regards, Hotel Viking team

My room I looked parking lot and was close to Highway so it was a little loud, but nothing I couldn’t live with.

Verified reviewThe check in was easy. Breakfast was good with a number of food choices served buffet style. There were waffles, oatmeal, coldcuts, cheese, breads, hard boiled eggs, fruit, like bananas and melons, pourable yoghurt, cucumbers, bell peppers served from 6 to 10 am. There was a hot tub and sauna which we did not use. It had a fridge (no microwave though.)
The bed situation. Maybe unique to our needs? There were two of us in one of the "cabins". It is said to sleep 5 and yes, there is a queen and 3 twins. The cabin has a loft with a slanted ladder that leads up to 2 of the twin beds. I think that if you have calm , older children that don't engage in horseplay, it would be fine. I didn't have those kinds of children so I would have been worried about that bed set up. The downstairs beds were a twin over queen situation. There was no safety rail on the twin, so if you have an active sleeper on the top bunk, you may find yourself with a falling object landing on you in the middle of the night. There was a memory topper on the bed-a big plus for us with older arthritic bones. The bed is pushed against the wall so can only be entered or exited from one side. Since I get up 2 to 3 times a night, I took the exit side of the bed. That means my husband who uses a cpap machine had the wall side of the bed. The side with no plug and no shelf. We had to put his cpap on the top bunk and rig up an extention cord to plug in on my side and got the tube to come down the wall side of the bunk-there was just barely room. In addition, there is a large and bulky ladder that leads to the top bunk which takes up almost half of the length of the bed so I would have to accordian my legs up to get out of the bed. The bathroom: heated floors are lovely! What is not lovely is the small corner shower, like a rounded on one side triangle. The doors close at the point at which the shower aims. It didn't leak (yet) but the sliding shower door kept coming off it's rails. My husband had to reseat it every time we used it. The hot water smelled like sulfer but that is from the geothermally heated water. Use the cold to make tea and coffee because it does not smell that way, There is a shelving unit that has an electric kettle for tea and coffee, but you can't use it without moving it close to the plug.
Hello Lynette :) Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you had a smooth check-in experience and enjoyed the variety of breakfast options as well as the amenities like the hot tub and sauna. We also appreciate your comments regarding the cabin layout, the bed situation, and the shower. We sincerely apologize for any discomfort this may have caused. Your input about the CPAP setup and the shower door issue will be passed along to our maintenance team for review, and we will look into improving these areas for future guests. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for an even more comfortable experience.

Verified reviewThis was a fun viking-themed hotel. The room had a little more space than some of the other places we stayed while in Iceland, which was nice. Even though there was construction happening, it was still relatively easy to find parking. The breakfast was good and had long hours. We chose this location because it was between Reykjavik and the airport for our last night, and I'm glad we did. Thanks!

Verified reviewReally cool Viking theme - they really went all out!
Our Viking-style cottage was on the tired side and the bunk beds weren't fastened to the wall, making them tip when my son climbed the ladder. The restaurant was also poor: again, amazing theming and the staff were great but the food was overcooked (lamb)/soggy (fish & chips) and expensive, even for Iceland. It was the final night of our trip and we were looking forward to our stay and a great meal but left disappointed. They were doing some construction work on the hotel during our stay so hopefully they'll give the cottages some TLC soon.

Verified reviewThe hotel was absolutely incredible—like something out of a dream! I’ve truly never seen anything like it. Every detail felt like a masterpiece of imagination, and it completely elevated our time in Iceland. It wasn’t just a place to stay—it was an experience in itself. And the staff? Genuinely outstanding. They went above and beyond in every way, making us feel welcomed, cared for, and truly special. Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without it!
I booked a twin room in the themed main hotel for myself and my adult son, so we were surprised to be placed in a smaller, shed-like room with a double bed and a single bunk above. It wasn’t quite what we expected or ideal for two adults. That said, the room was still very nicely designed, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was truly unique. Most importantly, the staff were excellent—helpful, friendly, and really made us feel welcome. Their service helped balance out the initial disappointment.
Hello :) Thank you so much for your heartfelt words and kind praise for our staff and atmosphere—it truly means a lot to us. We're sorry the room layout wasn’t quite what you expected, and we appreciate your understanding. We hope to welcome you back for an even more magical stay next time! Best regards, Hotel Viking team

Verified reviewIts a gorgeous little harbour with a lovely small shopping centre very close and the hotel has a hot tub although a swimming pool is close also. Busses to Reykjavik go from outside the shopping centre (2 minute walk). The hotel is warm, friendly and the staff very helpful. Its cosy and the breakfast is delicious.
It's a bit out of Reykjavik but some tour companies still pick up from there. You escape the concrete jungle of Reykjavik but the bus in takes 30 mins'ish and they go every 30 mins. If you hire a car it might be a great option.

Verified reviewThemed place, very interesting to walk around - like in a museum.
Booking said "landmark view", but the view was to the construction and somebody's yard. Construction started quite early in the morning - not unreasonably, but do not expect to sleep in. There was a balcony accessible to anybody from the corridor, which then allowed them to see into the room close to the window. People kept going there being loud and the door did not isolate any noise. The bathroom had only one dim light above the sink and you had to close the door while showering not to set the alarm off - so forget about seeing well when showering.
