How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was such a special experience to spend the night in the Yurt, and quite an adventurous one. The tent is super cozy and solid (despite the strong wind outside, we slept comfortably all the night through) and it is always challenging in a good way to try and stay without electricity and WiFi for a few hours. As advertised, the common bathrooms don't come with a shower, but we had free access to a public swimming pool downtown, which was also an appreciated bonus. The breakfast left for us in the Yurt, was rich and super yummy. The walk up to the tent was actually shorter and easier than expected, and the view on the town and fjord was just priceless. Totally recommended!

Verified reviewVery cute place and a unique experience. It was clean and well equipped for a basic stay. Everything was clean including the washrooms. There was really nice bedding that kept us warm all night. Excellent communication.
First thing was that the gps through google maps, kept taking us to the hotel north laneway. There is no clear signage so we were left driving around for at least 20 extra minutes. Once we did find the right lane we were intimated with driving through a literal field that has basic ruts as the path because we thought we missed the actual drive way. So be aware that this is rustic lane and at times deeply rutted so caution with your vehicle bottoming out. The directions could include lane is at the green shipping container. 2nd, the wood is very quick burning which is great for maybe getting a fire started and safety but that doesn’t last for the night when temps were very cold. The inside was very cold at about 3 hours in to the point it kept waking us up because our face and hands were coldl.
Hæ Natalie, thank you for the comments! And sorry to hear you got lost. Google is notorious for sending people to the wrong places in Iceland actually...that´s why we mail everyone the route description: park at the 36 feet green shipping container just before coming to hotel North, we think a green shipping container that large would be easier to spot than any sign. But we have a small sign there as well. The path from the parking is actually for walking not for driving. The best trick for burning the wood slower is to fill the stove and temper the fire when you go to bed so it will burn slower. Thank you for your visit and have a great trip around Iceland!

Verified reviewHonestly, I had one of the best sleeps of my life in this yurt! It was so quiet and peaceful to be surrounded by nature. The bed was so comfortable and it was really cool to fall asleep to the sound of a crackling fire:) Then to awake to a gorgeous & sunny day with stunning views of the surrounding mountains?? A rustic dream! I also enjoyed building the fire inside the stove. It takes a bit of time for the yurt to warm up after you start the fire so keep that in mind when you’re planning your arrival time. Chatted with one of the staff who was very pleasant and friendly!
Bit of a hike up to the yurts but nothing someone who is relatively active can’t handle! I’d recommend consolidating your stuff to one bag so you aren’t carrying heavy luggage up the hill. No showers but they offer free access to the showers at the local pool.

Verified reviewWe had a great stay in the yurt. How wonderful is waking up with the sound of sheep and a wonderful view of Iceland nature! Making a wood fire at night, eating breakfast in front of the yurt, swimming and taking a shower at the local swimming pool, talking to the other guest; it was a great experience. We got some exercise out of it also, walking back and forth to the yurt on top of the hill ;-) Thanks, Solla and Erwin.

Verified reviewThe location and the resulting silence was great! Dried firewood for the stove in the yurt was appreciated. The breakfast was also good.
Not enough cutlery (1 fork and 3 knives for a booking for 4 persons). The BBQ (and the utensils) needed SERIOUS cleaning, but it really should be replaced and levelled when it's installed so less time is spent chasing sausages rolling downhill to the back of the grille. The listening mentioned board games and playing cards, which would have been nice to keep us busy due to the rain... The one dice game that was in the room didn't keep us busy for very long.
Hæ Geoff, thank you for your stay and review! Just to make it clear: we have cutlery for the breakfast; one fork for the cheese and knives for butter and jam. As we are a hotel we don´t offer complete kitchen utilities, just a simple gas bbq for hotdogs and other finger food. We can also recommend some great restaurants in Akureyri. On the booking listing its only possible to say if there are boardgames/puzzles. We have some games in the yurts. But no puzzles and also not the same in each yurt. Sorry about that!

Verified reviewLoved the location. And the traditional style of the yurt. Wood stove was great, as was breakfast, fantastic!
Didn’t see the Iceland Yurt sign with cars parked in front. Maybe to have it more visible. Google maps directed us to the grassy lane at the bottom instead. Once we read the latest email, we figured out the entrance was by the green container.
Glad you found it! And great to hear you enjoyed it and thank you for staying with us. Have a nice trip around Iceland. Bestu kveðjur, Solla and Erwin

Verified reviewThe location was beautiful and the yurt was super cool. Enjoyed spending the time at local pool for a shower, soak, and shower the next morning.
Not really dislikes, but the hiking treck uphill was a bit long. When I booked 2-3 months ago, I didn't realize it would be a mini hike without a well-worn trail. One son and I transferred what we needed from our suitcases and to our backpacks, but the other two kids decided to drag their luggage. Perhaps parking could be made available at the place next door for a shorter treck. Totally get not wanting cars by the yurts, though; that would be distracting both by sight and sound and would take away from the beauty. Also recommend having some local pool instructions. I was embarrassed when I realized I walked into the shower room with my shoes still on, and we did not know to put towels in the cubbies so we wouldn't walk into the locker area wet after our soaks. Then, we did not know what to do with the towels after, which was take them back to the yurt parking location. We would have used the towels we brought with us if we had realized that we would need to double back to the yurt instead of driving straight into town.

Verified reviewThe views were stunning! It was an experience to stay in this cozy, colourful and clean yurt. It’s quite a hike up a steep hill from where you park your car and I can recommend just packing a small bag for the night. It depends on the yurt you have, we had the furthest one on the hill (with the best view). The toilet facilities were super clean. The bed was sooo comfortable and the breakfast just right for us.
We didn’t have a problem with driving to the public pool to have a shower, but I would recommend to factor in the time to get there - about 20 minutes by car.

Verified reviewThe yurt was an exceptional experience that everyone enjoyed. Our host was very responsive and helpful. It comes with an entry fee to the local pool. The Icelandic people enjoy this experience sometimes daily. Our breakfast was available to us whenever we wanted. There was everything needed to make a fire, which we enjoyed.
From where you parked your car, there was a 5-7 minute walk uphill. We had planned for this as we read the message that the host sent us ahead of time. We packed only the items we needed for the night.
Hæ Joelle, thank you for staying with us! great to hear you enjoyed it so much! Have a wonderfull trip. Solla and Erwin

Verified reviewThe view was amazing! The yurt was well maintained and clean. It had everything you’d expect in a yurt and accommodated the 3 of us comfortably. The breakfast cooler was great and we appreciated it! We didn’t have electricity because of a trip in the breaker but we got a quick response and the issue was remediated.
It’s a yurt in the hills, but the hike up was a lot. That’s all we “didn’t like” but it’s more because I’m a middle aged woman who needs to go to the gym more. Not the fault of the yurt owners!

Verified reviewThe peacefulness and the experience
The lengthy walk from the car park and long wet grass. We could not take our suitcases to the yurt and had to download our stuff in a parking lot.
Hello Jane, we offer assistance with suitcases, should people want to bring them to the yurt for one night (as we write in the reservation message). Otherwise we recommend people to prepare a day pack when they book. Most people enjoy the 5 minute stroll to the yurt.

Verified reviewYurts we're fantastic! They are located on a hillside with an amazing view of Akureyri and the fjord. It was large enough to comfortably fit 4 people. Beds were very comfortable and comforters were plenty to keep us warm. A stove in the center of the yurt provided good heat. Breakfast was good. Bathroom was a short walk from the yurt and were clean. All in all it was a wonderful experience
Nothing to complain about as we lucked out and had a gorgeous sunny evening.

Verified reviewI believe this place was oversold in the listing and all communication. It was a long walk from our car to the Yurt through knee high grass and uneven terrain and up a hill.
The bathroom was a joke. There are 2 stalls in the bathroom which could be used by anyone at any time. The sink was falling apart and there was no reasonable way to even fill up a water bottle. There was no hot water or showers.
Hi Shawn, sorry you felt that way. We are quite clear in our listing and communication, describing the short walk through nature (part of the charm for most of our guests that want a special experience). We also offer free entrance and towels at the local geothermal swimming pool as described. We have two restrooms that lock individually (there were 2 yurts booked when you stayed) and water cooker in the yurt that fits under the tap to use during your stay. Most bottle can be filled there. I did notice you tried to cancel 2 days before your arrival, it seems a bit to me like you got annoyed for not receiving a free cancellation.

Verified reviewThis was a different experience but really enjoyed it. The place was not difficult to find and the property owners’ detailed instructions were very helpful. It is a little bit of a walk (uphill) from the parking lot to the yurts so suggest to bring a smaller bag already ready rather than taking all your luggage up. We stayed in the middle yurt and were impressed with all the details and amenities inside. The breakfast cooler with tons of thoughtful breakfast items was a huge plus. There is electricity inside the yurt but there was only one small side lamp for light at night. The oven took a little bit to figure out but once we had the fire going, it quickly got toasty and warm inside the yurt. The bathroom is a little walk down the hill. The best part of it all is the VIEW; so beautiful and serene. We were there in June where there was only 40 minutes between dusk and dawn but I can only imagine how beautiful this place is during the winter time, especially with the northern lights. If you’re into glamping, this is the place for you!
Hæ Yukari! Thank you for your stay and the nice review. Would love to have you back in winter someday. Bestu kveðjur! Greetings, Solla and Erwin

Verified reviewThis was such a unique experience! Great view of the city across the sea and great views of the Northern lights! My husband said it was his favorite night so far! He loves the outdoors and got to show off his wood cutting and fire making skills to our kids.
It's not a dislike, but something to keep in mind. There are going to be some bugs to deal with just like camping. We had a bit of flies and a couple spiders, but nothing that would scare us away. We loved it and would book again in a heartbeat! Like I said, it was my husband's favorite night!
