How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely little cottage, big windows with good blinds, very cosy. The owner was very friendly; even bought us some baked snacks (which we very rudely didn't eat because of dietary reasons). Had everything we needed; wished we could have stayed longer. Straightforward heating in the cottage (just adjust radiators).

Verified review- We were in the Laugar area for 2 days, day 1 of 2 was at Guesthouse Hvítafell and we spent the 2nd day here. - This has been the best stay so far on the ring road. They seem to be doing everything right. - The hosts were very gracious and accommodating. The house has a nice fully equipped kitchen in the sunroom which feels so good to be in. - The hosts left us a small plate of cakes and cookies which were so good, thank you for that. - Easily accessible and quiet place to be.
- The hot water took some time to show up, it's probably because of the distance to the water heater, might be an issue in the winter, but works fine in the summer.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this cozy cabin. The kitchen was by far the cleanest we've come across during our travels in Iceland – everything from the plates and cups to the cutlery was spotless and well-organised. It made cooking and dining in real pleasure. The hosts were very welcoming and kind, and we especially appreciated the thoughtful touch of homemade welcome cookies – they were absolutely delicious! Their hospitality truly made us feel at home. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-cared-for stay in Iceland.
The cottage itself is quite compact, and there wasn’t much space to fully open two suitcases at once – but we managed 😀

Verified reviewExcellent central location for a couple to explore Lake Myvatn, Husavik and Akureyi regions in North Iceland. Beautifully located in rural setting with great views. Actual cottage is lovely, tastefully furnished with every little detail thought of, including full kitchen facilities, verandah, plenty of tourist information. Hosts were good communicators and very helpful. Highly recommended.
Nil!

Verified reviewLaugar Guesthouse is even more charming than the photos. It's in a serene setting on a small hill overlooking the owners house but very private and very quiet. It has a small kitchen and a beautiful front porch for sitting outside when the weather is good. It's close to quite a few tourist attractions and there are restaurants nearby. We'd definitely recommend it.

Verified reviewDelightful cottage with ample space (we book the larger unit). Quality fittings and touches. Clothesline on verandah. Instant coffee, ground coffee, tea bags, cereal/granola provided. Dining table and chairs; sofa chairs too! Black out shades; bedroom had door that separated it from the living room (useful when one partner sleeps earlier). Nice grounds on all sides.
Nothing.

Verified reviewOne of the best accommodations in Iceland, which I would recommend to everyone if they find themselves in this area. You have everything you need - a well-equipped kitchen, cleand bathroom, bedroom and living area. Mr. Baldur was a wonderful host and we had a nice conversation. His wife made very tasty homemade cakes.

Verified reviewEverything was amazing! Easily the best place we stayed during our whole 2 week travel in Iceland! This place is the proof that when someone puts their heart into something, it can turn out the best thing ever! Very cute, ideal size hut with everything someone needs: comfortable bed, spacious clean bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, relaxing sofa both inside and outside, very nice location and view. The hosts live just opposite and can be present if you need anything. They also facilitated us by allowing a bit later check in although not convenient for them without any problem. A few homemade cookies were also waiting for us as a little welcome treat. There is no better place to go around. Definitely worth the money, if we had more time, we would stay just to enjoy the calmness of the place.
It is soooo difficult to find something for this section...

Verified reviewPerfect little cottage. Clean, bright and had everything we needed and then some (I don’t think there was laundry but we didn’t expect or need it). Location wasn’t in the middle of a tourist area but in a field at a lovely home in a small town easily accessible to all destinations- Akureyri, Husavik and Myvatn. The hosts baked fresh goodies that were delicious. We wished we could have stayed longer.
Nothing. If you’re looking for a location in a hotspot then this place isn’t right for you. We were looking for comfort, quiet and convenience and the location couldn’t have been better.

Verified reviewSet in a “green” location, grassy slopes and forest behind. Could hear the birds so a nice peaceful environment away from the Myvatn hordes! Well located for visiting different areas. Could have stayed a 3rd day but had to move on. The house was modern, clean, spacious and well equipped. Our hosts were very friendly, spoke good English so had perfect communication and we were welcomed with delicious home cooked biscuits. Petrol station and supermarket within 5 mins. Prices always difficult to rate as Iceland is expensive.
Nothing.

Verified reviewSo nice and clean. In a location that was quiet, but close to many places we wanted to see in the Mývatn area as well as Husavik. Very comfortable little cabin. Comfortable bed and furnishings. Having a tv with Netflix was a nice bonus. Hosts were welcoming and even provided us with a home baked treat when we arrived.
We missed having a little freezer for our ice packs. That’s a minor thing though.
