How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe apartment is located on a quiet street, giving you the feeling of living like a local. It’s very close to Hallgrímskirkja Church and the pedestrian Laugavegur Street, where you’ll find all the shops (including a Bónus grocery store), restaurants, and bars. The place is spacious (except for the bedroom), clean, and the kitchen is fully equipped (refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee machine). Oil, salt, and pepper were provided, as well as coffee beans – which we really appreciated, as we did some cooking. The beds are comfortable, and the fold-out sofa bed is too. Parking: it's street parking, payable according to the current city tariff. We always found a spot somewhere nearby. In spite my suggestions for improvement it is a very lovely stay and I recommend it.
We missed having a sponge for cleaning the dishes, so we bought one ourselves – along with pot holders. A few extra shelves or some storage space in the bathroom would also be helpful. The bedroom is very small; you can't really use the closet, so we kept everything in our suitcases. The living room doesn’t have any closets either, so those sleeping on the sofa bed also had to live out of their luggage. The water has a noticeable smell, but that’s typical for Iceland – you just have to get used to it.

Verified reviewThe apartment is centrally located near the Hallgrimskirkja and shops and restaurants on Laugavegur street. There was plenty of parking directly infront of the apartment.
The bedroom is comfortable, but the space is tight.

Verified reviewLocation was on quiet street, but close to shopping area. Very safe. Bed was comfy. Water was nice and hot (it has a smell, but that's all of Iceland).
We were there in June when the sun doesn't set and the windows didn't all have coverings - so make sure you pack a sleeping mask. Parking was also a bit difficult. It's street parking, and we occasionally had a hard time finding a spot nearby.

Verified reviewNice interior and kitchen.
It was very bright during the night as there were no black out curtains for 2/4 beds. We had to improvise with all our jackets but it was difficult for the young kids to stay asleep.

Verified reviewThe location of the property was great! Everything we needed was in walking distance, and it felt like you were part of a Reykjavik neighborhood.
The bedroom is a little tight, which is understandable with the size of the bed, but if I wasn't watching myself, i would bump into the closet or the window sill.

Verified reviewGreat location, cosy accommodation. Quiet but right in the middle of town. Easy parking if you get the Parka app
Not a complaint at all- but as a tip you need to pull the front door hard towards you to open

Verified reviewThe location was great.
The water smelled like sulfur. The WiFi didn’t work.
Dear Mark, the warm water is a natural one from the earth, green energy - that is the reason for the smell. Most of the guests visiting Iceland already know this when they arrive :) Regarding the wifi, you were the unlucky one to have the wifi router deciding to stop working on a holiday and no offices open for replacement. There is a new router now working perfectly. I can understand your frustration, warm regards, Maria

Verified reviewthe apartment was wonderful and spacious and comfortable for our family of four. the pullout bed was honestly the nicest and most comfortable I have experienced. on a future visit, this is perfect as a base for spending several days. we were close enough to Hallgrímskirkja to hear the bells but not so close to be loud and distracting. once we parked, we didn't get into our car again for the weekend. we could walk everywhere, including to the harbor. cute coffee shop just around the corner at Kaktus Espressobar.
Thank you for your review and best wishes to you all! Maria

Verified reviewExcellent location, very close to the center yet on a quiet side street. A beautiful house - just as we imagined a typical Icelandic home. Comfortable interiors, lovely dishes (see photo), a cozy bed, and a fold-out sofa. The house had a fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary amenities. Perfect for a family of four (apartment on the upper floor). Parking was easy on the street, with payments at the meter on the corner or via the Parka app (highly recommended!).
Considerations for improvement: It would be wonderful to have bedside tables in the bedroom. Providing bins for waste segregation would be helpful (currently, there is only one common bin inside despite segregated outdoor trash). Sealing the front door to prevent drafts during frost would be appreciated (though it wasn't an issue for us at +1°C). These are minor suggestions - we still highly recommend this place! Overall, we had a delightful stay and would love to return.
