How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It was hot and the aircon didn’t seem to work

Verified reviewSpacious and cozy apartment right in the center of reykjavik! AMAZING Location , Three minutes walk to the church & 15 minutes walk to BSI terminal. Washing machine and dryer are available for daily use.
The bedroom windows can be cleaned on a periodical manner.

Verified reviewOur apartment offered lots of space and could easily accommodate 4 people. It's located in downtown Reykjavik in walking distance to all major attractions, e..g. less than 5 minutes from Hallgrímskirkja. No need to use the car.
The apartment was not well cleaned when we arrived. For example, most of the cutlery had been put into the drawer dirty. We understand that the approach is that everyone cleans before leaving, but this needs to be double checked.

Verified reviewComfortable bed, location, location, location. You really can't get a better location. Warm shower with good pressure.
Apt 1 is right at road level. If you have someone sleeping on the pull out, it will be very loud from people walking by. The bedroom was nice and quiet though.

Verified reviewThe location is perfect for walking around Reykjavik's all sights! Anything you need in walking distance! Bakery , super market, parking. The apartment is spacious and well equipped (for two couples ).Everything was easy and perfect in our stay. Would stay there again. Recommended.
I should comment that if staying in ground floor and want to sleep late, (not in our case) maybe not the best choice, as it is in the level of the street.

Apartment was very dirty. The floors were not cleaned, shower had a terrible smell and was full of dirt, the dishes and cutlery was not washed properly.
Hi, thanks for staying with us, but please give me better grading because most of my guests are grading me from 8 to 10. About the smell of the water, I just googled it and here is the answer: “The hot water in Iceland often has a distinct smell due to naturally occurring sulfur from geothermal sources, which is used to heat the water. This smell is generally described as similar to rotten eggs and is harmless, though it's not typically recommended for drinking. The cold water, however, is safe to drink and doesn't have the same odor, as it comes from pristine springs. “ Regards, Garðar at Mengi Apartments

Verified reviewVery convenient location, very well stocked and tastefully appointed apartment
It was a first floor/basement and people are looking in so you have to lower blinds all the time. Some privacy curtains that let light in would be great. I am sure upper floors would be fine.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed it, excellent communication with the host, and convenient location and host offered temporary storage of our bags for a couple hours after we checked out before our taxi and flight home. We used the time for a lunch and shopping.
The address 14a was a little confusing. Out taxi driver pointed us at building 14 and said it would be there somewhere. In fact, 14a is a different building with metal siding which is well documented by the host in his instruction. We were just confused for a couple minutes.

Verified reviewLocation is great.
Noisy neighbours, street noise, not clean (hair everywhere) in the bathroom & in the kitchen drawers. Bed ok, pillows ok. Nasty sheet for the hideabed.
Hi, I’m very disappointed with your ratings, most of my guests are rating me from 8 up to 10. Maybe you are confusing me with another guesthouse in Iceland ?? Please correct your ratings. Best regards, Garðar

Verified reviewGreat size for a family and absolutely great location. Despite the central location, apartment was surprisingly quiet - even though you could very easily hear your upstairs neighbors walking/moving furniture around.
It could have a little more staples (sugar for example) in the stash.

Verified reviewWe had a great stay at this apartment. It's very convenient, right at the city centre. Everything within walking distance, including a Bonus supermarket 3-4 blocks away. The apartment is well maintained. We slept 4. Two adults in bed and two kids in the sofa-bed. Sufficient, but tight. It's a basement apartment with windows to the street (feet) level, so less privacy if blinds open, but not inconvenient for us as we were on the move anyway. The host was very responsive and flexible. We were offered to check-in 2h before the standard check-in time, which we really appreciated. Check-in and check-out was very easy (key box). Street parking was easy to find in the streets around, but it can be expensive if choosing P1 zone. Cheaper P2 zones are close by too, but it's not straightforward to navigate for newcomers. We would definitely come back.

Verified reviewThe apartment has all the basic facilities, which is its only advantage.
I was informed in advance that the sofa bed would not be made, but the real issue was that the bed was dirty. There were small particles like sand or crumbs, and the blanket even had burn holes. On top of that, we had to put on the bed sheets, duvet cover, and pillowcases ourselves. I booked a room for four people, so why was only half of it prepared? Additionally, the apartment was quite dusty. We also had to take out our own trash, which was a first for me. My travel companions found it very confusing. The information provided was not clear enough—the instructions were framed in a picture, which made them easy to overlook. The WiFi details were on the back of the router, and since I was unfamiliar with that model, I couldn’t find the login details. If information is important, it should be clearly listed together.
Hi, thanks for staying with us, but I am very disappointed with your ratings because my guests are normally rating me between 8 up to 10. My average rating is over 9… Hope you change your mind. Regards, Garðar
