The stairs to the upper floor are very narrow, which makes it hard to carry a suitcase up and down (for fairness, it was mentioned in the place description). The owner mentioned that they intend to expand the stairway!

If you're looking for a nice, inviting, clean guesthouse, in a central place, with plenty of (free) parking, and a welcoming atmosphere, then Guesthouse Mikael is definitely the place for you! We stayed in a few guesthouses in Iceland, and this one is by far better. Nice and clean full kitchen, nice and clean dining room, relatively large rooms, with your own great shower and toilet (not obvious in guesthouse). Oh... and all this at a very decent price! Just by a chance, we met with the owner (and her sister), and had a nice chat. Well, it seems that if the owner is a nice person, the facility is a nice one as well. Thanks (sorry, can't pronounce her name...) :)

Great location, easy to find with enough parking facilities. Room was comfortable and nicely furnished. Kitchenette has everything you need and breakfast room is cosy.

Reaching the room through the stairs was hard when carrying the typical 20 kg trolley luggage. The staircase is in a spiral which is very hard for anyone having room 1-4.

Staff: The communication was effective and they were nice and helpful. It was among the few stays that I had that had a code for room access instead of a key. Room: The beds were comfortable and I could dampen the light easily. It was nice and cozy. Bathroom: There was hot water available and the toilet flushed properly and overall the space was very big. Location: It was great as you are a 2 minute walk away from the most important restaurants.

The room is much smaller than advertised, has poor ventilation, a damp smell and very poor soundproofing. I booked for 2 separate beds, than we were given beds that were put together.

Very compact and well organized guesthouse. For a night or two at Hofn this is the right place to stay. There is a great restaurant just next door .

The only annoyance was that there was a family with young kids in the living room until quite late in the evening, they seemed to be playing some games and being loud. Since it was June, maybe some people don't realize that even very late at night it doesn't get very dark in Iceland.

The guesthouse has a great location right in the heart of Hofn with some nice restaurants nearby. As elsewhere in Iceland, there was a self-checkin with detailed instructions shared in advance. Our room was quite tiny but with a cute and clean bathroom. The beds were comfortable with clean sheets, cozy and warm blanket. Nothing to complain about for a one-night stay on a road trip. The guesthouse has a small lovely living room with a coffee machine as well as a kitchen. There was a very nice staff member we interacted with before checkout in the morning.

This was a last minute booking and it turned out to be one of the best places we stayed in during our round trip. Spotless clean, cosy living room and shared space that I would say turned out better than in the pictures on Booking. The common coffee/espresso machine was very appreciated. The kitchen was also much better equipped than the description. Can really recommend this place.

In one of the rooms (second floor), it smelled bad from the bathroom. The common spaces and the stairs are pretty small.
