How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was well located, we were able to walk to all our excursion meet ups. Any questions we asked were researched and followed up with a printed paper and a map of walking instructions. Every night our bed was turned down with a chocolate on the pillow and finally, the morning breakfast was delicious.
I could see where parking could be an issue although we did not have one and the proprietors was very helpful with instructions

Verified reviewWell located for the main sights. 12 - 15 minute walk to the Hallgrimsonkirkja. Lovely set breakfast ( ham, cheese, granola, yoghurt, brown bread, boiled egg, tea/coffee). Very helpful staff. Good sized double room. Good value for Reykjavik.
Nothing.

Verified reviewThis was a good hotel, with a good breakfast. The room was kind of cosy and clean, with good beds.
There was a somewhat awkward situation, when we felt a bit 'in the way'; not welcomed: your were not allowed to place the cups, bowls and glasses where you wanted at the breakfast table. They had 'special ruled' it was stated. Did not like that!
Just to make it clear. The complimentary breakfast at Hotel Phoenix is made individually for each guest. It is presented on a rather big plate for every individual. If the guest has put their coffee cup in the middle of the table in front of them when the staff member hands out the plate, the staff member kindly asks the guest to move the cup so he can put the breakfast plate on the table in front of the guest. Guests with the slightest common sense do see this as necessary if they want to enjoy the free breakfast. By no means is this meant in a mean or controlling way. The management of Hotel Phoenix

Verified reviewThe breakfast was excellent and very filling hard boiled egg, ham, cheese, granola, yogurt, juice, tea or coffee, all served fresh by our host. I’m not sure if options were available for vegetarian/vegan or those who require gluten free. We were given a chocolate with the nighttime turndown service, when our hosts also drew the blackout curtains as it doesn’t get dark in midsummer. The room also had a small sitting area and everything was immaculately clean. The location was very convenient and very close to everything
Since we had to leave early on our day of departure, it might be nice if a small to go breakfast was an option- though there was coffee and a cookie in the room . It was a little different that the front door remains locked and you have to ring the bell for entry throughout your stay. It is a very small/intimate property and the hosts were always available for questions (and explanations of the Icelandic alphabet) The only downside to the room was that the bathroom door opened out and almost hit the bed.

Verified reviewExtremely clean, great location and easy to find free street parking around the hotel. The rooms are kept in exceptional shape and cleaned thoroughly everyday.
The issue with the hotel is that, like a bed and breakfast, you are not entitled to all the privacy you may want. There are 2 hosts. Each time you leave and enter the hotel, you have to deposit your room key. The nighttime host was such a nice, helpful gentleman. The daytime host, while nice and helpful, is intrusive and can make people uncomfortable. I would still recommend the hotel, but just know that you will be interacting with the hosts quite a bit throughout your stay.

Verified reviewA good Icelandic style breakfast, well presented by very polite staff. The Hotel was spotlessly clean, we could not fault it in anyway. It was well placed in a location near to central areas, which you could walk to or use a taxi or buses, it was very peaceful. We would recommend 100% to anyone.

Verified reviewHotel Phoenix is at a terrific location, a small walking distance (or bus transfer) from the best sites in Reykjavik! I didn't have to go very far and the hotel staff gave good advice on restaurants and sightseeing. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!
This was one of the better hotels I've stayed at during my time in Europe!

Verified reviewThe hotel feels very homely, and the hosts truly made me feel very welcome. They provided me with all kinds of information about Iceland, along with advice on excursions, transport, and even what time I should arrive at the airport to avoid being late for my flight (and it was an excellent advice as I understood after coming to the airport!). The breakfast was always fresh and delicious, and the room facilities were perfect and thoughtfully arranged. I’m sincerely happy that I chose this hotel for my stay in Reykjavik.
I liked everything!

Verified reviewThe room was spacious for a European B&B and was clean and well appointed. The breakfast was wonderful. The hotel is convenient to the main shopping district but a bit of a walk to the center of the city. The owners are very accommodating. They allowed us to check out a bit late on our final day since that aligned better with when we needed to leave for the airport, and they were happy to work with us. The room is cleaned everyday, with new towels and a chocolate on the pillows. Overall, it was a very nice inn.
They require you turn in your key every time you leave. I'd prefer to be able to come and go with my key to gain access to the hotel and room.

Verified reviewThis is a beautifully decorated boutique hotel. All the rooms are on the 2nd floor with no elevator, but it's an easy climb even with luggage. It's located in the old section of town within easy walking distance of restaurants and shopping. There is a close bus stop for tours and the bus to/from the airport. The breakfast included is stellar! The bed is extremely comfortable and they do a turn-down service, including a chocolate on the pillow. There are many special touches, like a printed weather report on the breakfast table and a factoid about Iceland on the back. The owner is a font of information about Iceland & Reykjavik and even provides maps to specific destinations. We highly recommend this hotel for your visit to Iceland! We will stay here again when we go back.

Verified reviewMy fiance and I loved our stay at Hotel Phoenix. The comfort of the cozy, well decorated place and the sweet men who took care of us we appreciated greatly. They were always helpful, providing us with the locals advice and making sure we were always taken care of. They kept the bed always made with sweet surprises like chocolates & notes when we got back. The breakfast is made by them themselves and it was perfect- all you could need to start your day. If you have good taste, this hotel will fit your wants and needs. Thank you <3
