How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewVery cozy and nice. Slept like a baby throughout the night in the cabin and really enjoyed my stay. I went down to the bakery and bought a snúður which I enjoyed with by the open window and it was a really great, almost nostalgic feeling to sit there and look at Siglufjörður. The owners were so warm and welcoming too. If there was an issue, they'd reply fast and they were super understanding. The owners showed me around and pointed to where everything is. Having my own bathroom and kitchen was a huge part of why I chose to stay at a cabin and it didn't disappoint. The bed was comfortable and there was very little noise so sleeping through the nights was very easy. I also liked that they had a hair dryer and lots of useful stuff in the cabin like scissors and other stuff in case you forgot it at home. Fantastic view of the town too. I didn't get a chance to try the hot tub but I will definitely do that if I stay here again. I had a great stay. Absolutely recommend this place!
However (these are very minor things) but if you have a lot of luggage or bad knees or something like that I will say there's some climbing to get to the cabins. The wifi was really bad during my stay. It wasn't a huge problem since I was busy with the comic festival but it was annoying. The outside shower wasn't my cup of tea either since I'm a very shy person (it was closed and all, I wasn't there in the nude in front of every town member or anything haha) and it was kinda cold so I had to rush.

It makes us very happy to know you found the cabin comfortable, quiet, and well-equipped with all the little extras that make a stay easier. We’re also glad that you felt welcomed and taken care of – we always try to be close by if guests need anything. Having your own bathroom and kitchen is something we know many guests appreciate, so it’s great to hear that it was one of the highlights of your stay. Regarding the climb up to the cabins – you’re right, it does take a few steps to get there, but many of our guests also tell us it makes the cabin more private and romantic, away from street-level. We like to think of it as a small part of the charm. The outdoor shower is also something we emphasize in all our listings and guest emails – it’s warm, private, and refreshing, though of course we understand it’s not for everyone. All guests are welcome to use the shower in the main guesthouse as we also emphasize :) Thank you as well for mentioning the Wi-Fi – we are continuously working on improving the signal in that part of the garden, so your feedback is really helpful. Verified reviewWe stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments which had very comfortable beds, huge bathroom and kitchen, sitting area, dinning space and an awesome view of the church, the waterfront. There is one hotub included. Hosts are absolutely wonderful and welcoming. Highly recommend this place.
Need to take some stairs to get to the property. Hence if there are full size suitcases, in our case there were 2, can be tricky to drag them all the way way up. But don't let that stop you from enjoying the beautiful stay. Again I would highly recommend the place.

Verified reviewThe location was perfect to walk around the town or walk to shops and restaurants. Each room had an amazing view. There was plenty of room and we were able to do laundry. It was my favorite spot I stayed in Iceland. The host was very accommodating and answered all my questions. She even got the hot tub ready for us early.

Verified reviewBeautiful spot above the town and overlooking the fjord and beyond. We stayed in the separate cabins which both have tremendous views and easy access to the hot tub. Helga and Dagur could not be nicer!
Make sure to do your shopping in Akureyri Reykjavík so you can do your own cooking - better tasting and (more) budget friendly ;)

Verified reviewWe liked everything: hospitality, location, view, cleanliness and style, how well equipped cabins were! What an amazing town, full of history and good people. Dagur, thank you for running the hot tub for us!! It was such a perfect finish to our long day! So much to see, so little time. I guess we'll have to come again! Helga and Dagur also know everything about skiing, if you are considering coming in the winter. Don't hesitate, you won't regret!!

Verified reviewAbsolutely fell in love with this charming place. Helga was an exceptional host, she welcomed us and showed us around the property. We traveled during the shoulder season and managed to get the entire downstairs to ourselves, so the shared common areas felt like our own. We especially loved the espresso maker & all the interesting books. This is the coziest place we stayed during our trip to Iceland, and it's so beautifully decorated. The bed was so cozy, the entire place was immaculately clean, and the VIEW from your room is amazing! I can't recommend this place enough. We even got some beautiful snow overnight!
