How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe had 4 different rooms as a group of family members travelling together. Location was great, with wonderful views of the sassi. Staff were very helpful with organizing parking and rooms with easy access for members of our family. I would advise to check room location as different levels and ease of access depending on mobility. This is to be expected with staying in this part of Matera. Breakfast was great 😃

Our room was large, very well appointed & had an exceptional view of Matera. You can purchase ice creams, drinks & snacks on the terrace with a great view - all well priced. Verified reviewThis is a lovely property in a very nice part of the sassy. The Car Parking was really easy, and the directions clear. We took a few small bags and walked down which is really easy and gave an insight into the area. The staff were friendly and the accommodation was terrific. I would have no hesitation in recommending the place. Remember, that there are lots of steps so if you have any issues from a musculoskeletal point of view, then I think again! It was quite hot when we were there, but we got a bright and early and did the walk across the bridge and up the hill , which was spectacular.

Verified reviewThe hotel is in a very good location and has great views. The taxi pick up from the bus stop was very good and the taxi driver very helpful with the luggage. The room and bathroom are good size but the furnishings could be more comfortable. There is a very functional sofa which doubles as a bed and is not comfortable to sit on! Despite the room size the bed is a standard double and is extremely hard: rather than firm and comfortable. No pillow selection and all are very firm. Breakfast selection was good particularly the bread, cheeses and jams: staff in the breakfast room were pleasant. Main downside of the property was front of house staff who are at best curt and at worst disinterested! No sense of any welcome or that a service is being paid for. What’s app messages often not responded to and a lack of attention to detail: empty bottles often left when fridge replenished. If I were to return I would choose a different property.
The furnishings in the room were basic and didn’t provide any comfort. A couple of small windows with no curtains so woke up to light; put the door mat on one to block the light. Lack of attention to details and unresponsive to what’s app requests, curt, borderline rude front of house staff.

We could have been advised of the difficulty of arriving at your hotel, by hire car, 'after hours', into the ZTL We now know what a ZTL is, but we didn't when we were driving the car into city. We were unprepared for being unable to drive the final few hundred metres. What was good was the response from your night manager, and his colleague who came to rescue us, and took over to drive the car expertly to the hotel doors. We would not have had the knowledge or the confidence to drive a car through such a Saturday night crowd. Also, you could promote the subterranean house in the nearby street. We found it, by chance, on the last morning of our stay. It was wonderful, a perfect ending to our time in Lecce. Tell your guests about it, it has a remarkable story!

Verified reviewTucked right into the Sassi, Ai Terrazinni exceeded our expectations in so many ways! We were surprised at the size of the room, figuring it would be rather small. On the contrary, not only was the sleeping space more than adequate, the shower area and separate toilet facilities were more than large enough! We loved the view outside our room as well as the terrace a few steps away where we enjoyed ending perfect days with an aperol spritz or beautiful glass of wine. All staff we encountered were incredibly happy and helpful. Communication with all was simple. All our needs were totally taken care of, without any difficulties. Everyone there was stellar!
No complaints about anything.
