This is an excellent, compact hotel close to the centre of Trieste. It is about a 20 minute walk from the railway station. The hotel is on a hill and the hotel's page on booking.com does warn that the property is accessed via 57 steps. The steps can be avoided on foot with a hilly detour or by taking a bus or a taxi. The hotel has an unusual layout that reflects the clever conversion of the original building on a sloping site. My ensuite room was excellently furnished, well equipped and surprisingly spacious. The staff were very helpful.

I hadn't realised the number of steps from the car park to the hotel. Quite a challenge with our suitcases. But we survived.

Lack of kettle and balcony furniture but we coped!

Great location in the heart of the old city. Roman ruins literally on the doorstep and restaurants and bars just steps away. Despite this we didn’t find it noisy at night, it’s a residential area so not just tourists which is great. Hotel is clean, staff are polite if distant (which was fine for us). Room was a superior double, a good size, comfy bed and good decor. No kettle but there was an espresso machine. We had a balcony overlooking the Roman arch, but no balcony furniture, disappointingly! Otherwise would have been a 9. But a lovely stay nonetheless- Trieste is a laid back city, beautiful architecture, amazing sunsets, and a really interesting history. Don’t miss Miramare gardens!

only staff had access to our bikes during reception opening hours - almost whole day, but we need to plan our trip to be there on the time... there is no stand for bikes so we had to lean our bikes to some other bikes and block them from being taken out. we think it is not so happy solution because the hotel has pretty big space to park the bicycles but you can only use so little space when you have no bicycle stand (lean your bikes to the wall), or in other case- you need to block other bicycles

room and bathroom were big and clean, there was a couch in our room... really close to the center, nice and quiet area... no problem storing our bikes, helpful and nice staff

This is not negative, but if you are arriving with car you have to plan to leave the luggage first (if you are carrying big or a lot of).

Really good location, quite easily accessible. Around the hotel are some good bars and shops, it can get loud but sound isolation is very good, so no problem sleeping. Good value for money.

The price per night was high for the amenities the rooms offered. I assume it was inflated because there was an event in town on the day of our stay and there was increased demand for accommodations.

Everything exceeded expectations: great position, spotless clean, great comfort despite the historical building (win win). The only reason I can imagine for it having only one star in the Italian hotel ranking system is accessibility, which is indeed limited due to city structure.

Only one chair in the room and you couldn't really sit out on the balcony as there was no furniture there.

The location was in a historical part of Trieste which was very interesting. The facilities were good.

Its location is great but the price you pay is that you have to park some distance from the hotel. This was clear at the time of booking, so I have no complaints. If you do go here, its probably better not to bring any large heavy bags into he hotel unless you want a workout lifting them up 57 steps from the car park. We got round this by leaving big bags in the car (the car park appears safe) and just taking small bags into the hotel.

Can't comment on breakfast - we went to a local cafe. Location is fantastic if you want to see Trieste. Staff are friendly and helpful.
