How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room itself was clean but relatively small.
The building lobby was horrific. It’s a room with tile floor, broken windows, and residue from construction. It’s looks like it must have looked during war time.

Verified reviewNice room, shared kitchen with free snacks and drinks. Close to the city centre
The building is degradeted and the area is not great. The room was too expensive compared to what was offered.

Verified reviewThe location is really perfect, specially if your arrival is by train or bus, given that both stations are literally around the corner. Sandra is really careful with details and everything was clean and ready to use. There were fruits and snacks, a fridge and all required stuff to prepare coffee, tea or warm up food at the microwave. The bathroom is tiny but new and clean. There were fresh towels, aircon and a tv that we never turned on, but I guess is a plus. On the last day we needed to find what to do with our luggage and fortunately it was possible to keep it in a little room, something very helpful in order to join a bus tour before our train. Sandra waited us after the tour, so that we could return after the check out to pick up the luggage. We found that helpful and nice from her.
It may look old at the beginning, but once you step on the apartment and specially the cozy dining area your impression changes.

Verified reviewThe room and bathroom was so clean as was the kitchen. It was really nice to have access 24/7 to be able to have a little snack, yoghurt etc plus a cup of tea.

Verified reviewReasonably close to the station but a bit of an uphill climb. Facilities were quite satisfactory
A bit of a walk to the centre of town and in a bit of a grungy neighbourhood. The number of keys required to access the room was excessive and difficult to come to terms with.

Verified reviewThe room and apartment were fine with a large bathroom (room 1). The apartment was (as stated) 5 minutes from the bus and train stations and 20 minutes walk to the centre. Clear instructions of how to gain access to the apartment and room.
The entrance to the apartment was grim and in a state of disrepair and the front door handle had come apart. The breakfast materials provided were adequate, and great if you like sweet things (not my preference).

Verified reviewEverything. I had no WiFi nor data to call host but luckily Sandra called me and let me in remotely after I rang the doorbell. Generous amount of cakes, fruit, snacks, tea, coffee laid out. Cream, butter, yoghurt, soda, drinks, bottle of wine in fridge. Kitchenette has microwave, air fryer but no hob. 3 mins walk to big supermarket Pam and buses to Miramar Castle, centre of town, etc. Need to bus ticket before boarding as the app Tplfvg didn't work.
Had Instructions to get keys to enter apartment but not the first 2 doors of the building. Need a phone to call the host but luckily Sandra called me as I had neither WiFi nor phone data. Room a bit cramp for 3 to put suitcases, a lot of furniture in the room. Noisy traffic with window open at times.

Verified reviewThe apartment was very nice, clean and bright. The Continental breakfast was good as well as the coffee ☕ Sara, the host was very nice 🙂
The entrance to the building was kind of scary. At first, I thought we were in a horror movie and Jason or Freddy Krueger were going to come through one of the lobby doors. It was an old historic building. The facade was nice but the lobby was not welcoming at all. Pretty scary! The fact that you needed 5 keys to enter the building/apartment was not inviting. Once we entered the apartment, we felt safe. The bedroom just needs some minor touch ups. The bedroom was clean, except for the floors. They were very dusty and the bed could use some new and more comfortable pillows. The bathroom towels were clean but didn't smell fresh, nor were they soft.

Verified reviewGreat location (close to train station), wide bed and modern bathroom.
Very strong smell of laundry detergent (bed linen and towels). In the kitchen there were some things in the fridge and on the table but I could not understand what I can take as some of them were from people from other 2 rooms in that appartment. So I did not take anything. There is an elevator but you can access it only with a key you can get on the 3rd floor (2nd in Italy). If you travel alone you should be able to carry your suitcase up.

Verified reviewVery well located for the Train Station. We also enjoyed the warm welcome of the basic but clean and inexpensive cafe/bar at the top of the street. €3.50 for a very good Aperol Spritz has to be the best value in Trieste.
This is NOT a Hotel nor, arguably, should it be described as a Guest House. ‘Guest House’ suggests there is a Host and usually a Reception Desk, but in reality, and for all impractical purposes, this is an Air BnB comprising of three en-suite rooms situated on the second floor of an old and quite run-down residential apartment building that (WARNING !) cannot be accessed without a mobile phone. I would say this establishment is NOT suitable for elderly, physically infirm/unfit people who do not possess and/or cannot proficiently use a mobile phone. Unlike those who ‘Reveiwed’ this ‘Guest House’ favourably, there was no one to greet us upon arrival, nor at any other time. In fact, the ONLY contact we had with the reportedly wonderful Landlady (Sandra) extended to phone message exchanges via WhatsApp informing us how to access the apartment, the location of the breakfast snacks and where to leave the €8.00 local tax payment on departure. Accessing the building via the main door from the street was achieved by dialling the (free) phone number shown on the wall outside, which automatically activates the door releases. Once inside, one must climb two exhausting floors of old stone stairs in order to obtain a bunch of keys from a number-coded lock-box secured to the outer doors of the apartment complex. The other of us remained downstairs guarding the luggage. (Note that the lift cannot be used without using one of the keys on the aforementioned bunch). Reunited on the ground floor, we then took our luggage upstairs in the small lift. Inside the apartment complex, our room (#3) was clean and refurbished in a modern style. It had a well appointed but VERY cramped bathroom which was not easily accessed via a sliding door situated very close to the foot of an angular metal-framed bed that delighted in stubbing toes.
