How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery convenient for ferry. Good communication with manager.
The breakfast was just stale cakes in plastic left there before we arrived. We had no idea how much of the food was for us. The kitchen was shared and there was another guest room. We were up early but if we had eaten two of everything (there were two of us), there would have been nothing left if the other room was occupied. So we just ate a couple of small things. Very confusing and unsatisfying.

Verified reviewGreat place location stand to train station (15 minutes walk or 25 euro for taxi😞) 10 minutes walk to cruise port 👍
No AC but small fan and it was 32 degrees cel. Smell in first floor at entrance but ok in room. Not much for breakfast. Beside that it’s ok for the price.

Verified reviewThe host was very nice and even went out of their way to meet special dietary needs. The property was clean.
No air conditioning made it really challenging to sleep at night
You wrote a review about the air conditioning. On Booking.com it says there is no air conditioning. You paid €55, which is a low price, and I was kind enough to buy you breakfast just for you. You gave me a 6. I'm truly sorry. If I had known this beforehand, I wouldn't have bought it.

Verified reviewGreat location, nice neighbourhood, clean, a lot of shopping, restaurants and coffee shops near by. It was close to the ferry we needed to take next morning to go to Sardinia. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The host gave good instructions related to checking in and was prompt in responding to our messages.
We couldn’t use the kitchen. The host sent us a message that the kitchen is only for breakfast and we weren’t allowed to use the stove. It wasn’t a big deal for us because we didn’t want to cook . The place doesn’t have AC and it was hot in July. They had a fan in the room that was noisy for our taste.

Verified reviewVery good location close to the port, recommended for people who go on a cruise the next day. Large bathroom and comfortable bed.
I wish there were some shelves in the bathroom. It is large but you need to keep your cosmetics on the ground. Breakfast was too basic, it is some sweet pasty bought in supermarket. I hoped for something fresh from the bakery.

Verified reviewClean, comfortable, and economical room in the center of Civitavecchia. For the price paid, you would expect a shared bathroom or an external bathroom. But, this is a private room with a private bathroom! And breakfast is even included. I stayed the night before an early flight from Fiumicino. I've stayed in many of the other small towns near the airport before flights - Ostia, Santa Marinella, Santa Severa. While the beaches may be better in those towns, there's a lot more to do in Civitavecchia.
The shower head in unit 1 should be replaced. More water comes out of the top than the bottom.

Verified reviewIt was clean and close to the cruise port. Pretty good price
The ad didn’t mention it was a shared kitchen so you had to stay contained in your room which was very small and had no ac. I did not sleep well

Verified reviewThe location was perfect. It was within walking distance of the cruise port, the bus area where cruise buses drop you, the area where you can go on tours or book transport to the airport, and also within walking distance of the train station. Also a short stroll to the beach, wall walks, promenade, castle, restaurants, etc. It is close to everything yet tucked away on a quiet side street so you can still get a good sleep. It felt like staying in an Italian home so much better than a generic hotel. The price was perfect and the host was great with communication. The entire place was very clean and well kept, had everything you needed including bottled water, coffee and tea and a variety of pastries for a continental breakfast. I would have liked to have stayed longer. It's a great place to visit in and of itself and an excellent base to explore Rome and surrounding areas.
I liked everything about the place and I couldn't actually think of anything that would have made it any better.
