Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaAt the end of the day, it's still a cave, so even with a dehumidifier and air conditioning, you will notice the moisture in the air on a hot afternoon, so I found it difficult to stay indoors for more than an hour or two in the day. It's fine at night though. Mini fridge could have been colder, and the freezer compartment drips a little, even when empty.
Breakfast was beautifully arranged, with an assortment of local fresh fruits, cheeses (pecorina, ricotta, mozzarella and burrata), a plate of cold cuts, pastries, and freshly made bruschetta. Location was great. Hosts were welcoming and even offered to give us a packed breakfast on the last day as we were leaving early. Room was spacious (the one with the bath tub is much bigger than the one with the shower/ cistern, and if I were to recommend a cave room, it would be this one), water temperature and pressure was good, and the aircon kept the room comfortable. Wifi was excellent. Housekeeping comes daily. Also liked looking at the holes in the cave walls.

AustraliaThere was nothing not to like!
The accommodation is in a very central location in the old city, close to restaurants and all the sites. It was easy to find with the instructions provided. We parked our car in the parking facility suggested and it was straightforward to take the shuttle bus in to the city. The room itself was outstanding! It was very clean, the bed/pillows were comfortable and it was unique staying in a cave! The room was perfect! Breakfast was outstanding and plentiful, with fruit, pastries, cheese, bread and local delicacies!

United StatesNothing- it was perfection.
This property was magical and the hosts could not have been more kind. What a unique and special experience to stay in an actual cave dating so far back in time. The furnishings were modern and minimal- a perfect complement to the natural cave surrounding so you could enjoy comfort while still experiencing the simplicity of the natural environment. The Sassi took my breath with its beauty, so I definitely recommend staying in that part of Matera. The hosts went above and beyond in many ways- communication was clear, they offered to store our bags after checkout, and the breakfast was astounding in taste and quantity. Fruits, bruschetta, breads, cheeses, meats, pastries, and more. And all served so generously and lovingly. I only wish we had stayed more days. I hope to go back.

IsraelThere is nothing bad to say about this magical place. Even if you really try.... you can't find fault with this charming hotel
This is without a doubt the most special hotel we stayed in throughout our entire trip to southern Italy. A cave decorated with all the possible indulgence in accessories and equipment. The interior design is amazing, the accessories are modern and well maintained. The breakfast is homemade and especially rich, it was really hard for us to stop the landlady from adding more products to the meal that was especially huge. And finally .... the landlady is so friendly and hospitable, we felt like she was a relative waiting to host us.

Enzo and his wife were charming. They gave us a lovely welcome, and Enzo explained about the sites in Matera. We were lucky enough to be upgraded, and the room was wow! The breakfast was the best we've had in Puglia and probably anywhere. The quality of the copious amounts of food was excellent. Matera is amazing and the bnb well placed for visiting the sites. Thank you both

PhilippinesNothing! we could not ask for more.
The breakfast was great! There was fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, coffee, fresh juice, a lot! The host offered to drive us to the car park (because you are not allowed to bring vehicles inside the Sassi) at 730 am because the first bus leaves the Sassi for the parking lot at 745am. The B&B was very close to the main road where the last stop of the bus is and it took as just 2 minutes to walk to the property. The ambiance was OMG because it was a real cave dwelling! The interior was tastefully decorated. All amenities were complete and exceeding expectation. It felt like we were in a 5 star hotel. The room was made up everyday, with fresh towels provided everytime they make up the room. The hosts were super attentive and caring and were there when you needed them.

United StatesIt was a little hard to find the first time. But after finding it, it was super easy (just behind Corte San Pietro, on the main street to Piazza San Pietro Caveoso).
Breakfast - the best we had on the whole trip. Home-made panna cotta, stracciatella bruschetta, fresh fruit. Room - it's a cave. Really gorgeous design and warm (we went in winter). We slept so well after a nice soak in the huge tub that we almost missed breakfast. Location - perfect. Right off the main piazza. Loads of shops nearby, but still a little recessed so as to not be noisy. Hosts - Mima and Enzo were so warm and kind. We arrived early, so we took a 10:30am group tour after quickly dropping our bags off. It's easy to get lost when in the Sasso Caveoso area for the first time and I was grateful for Mima escorting us to the tour meeting point. If we ever go back to Matera, we're DEFINITELY staying here again. Big luxury hotels don't have their level of personal touch.

Location, beautiful owners, large and delicious breakfast, very unique cave accommodation, close to everything in the Sassi. Easy to get to from the shuttle bus in the square ( just a minute or two up the road from the piazza). Enzo is also an excellent guide and we loved learning about the history of the area.

ColombiaIncredible place to stay at, wow wow wow!!! Great location to walk around Matera. The staff was incredibly nice, super attentive to our every need. They helped us set up a guided tour of matera as soon as we arrived. The room was spectacular, super comfy bed and pillows, spacious and beautifully decorated. The experience of staying in a sasso is one you should have, simply unique. This is a very special place. The breakfast is included and it is just amazing!!! best breakfast we had in our entire trip to Italy. The only thing that I found a bit difficult after a day was the smell of humidity, the sassos are naturally very humid. But still, would do it all over again.

United StatesThe humidity of the Cave was a bit uncomfortable, but not much can be done about that as it is a cave. There was a dehumidifier that ran constantly.
