How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe stayed in a room with a private bathroom. The guesthouse is located just a few minutes from the old town. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful — you can only hear the seagulls flying around. During our stay, we used the local bus service from Via Catalogna, which is about a 12-minute walk away. From there, you can reach many interesting places by direct bus lines. Communication with the host was easy, and he was always available to help with our questions and requests.

If not like i read now i could change (obviously) everything. It happens even to the industrial laundry that bring me bed linen and towels and we didn’t see. Verified reviewMe and my boyfriend enjoyed our stay at Big Fish. The location is very good, in the city center. You have everything around: supermarkets, restaurants, a park not very far. We also would like to mention that everything was very clean, and the owner always helped us when we had questions. Thank you very much for that!
It is not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have the opportunity to cook something simple in the kitchen, like porridge or to boil some eggs. In the kitchen area you can only make a tea or coffee (for free). Also the private bathroom was outside the room, but it was not a problem for us, only worried to disturb the neighbors.

The night before checking in, Ylenia had texted us late stating that there was a problem with the room that we had booked, and that the private ensuite bathroom (which we paid extra for) was causing problems. She informed us that we had to change rooms, and she checked whether we were still ok to proceed with the booking, which we agreed to as we were arriving in less than 12 hours the following day. Upon arrival, the room we had been downgraded to was significantly different and worse compared to the room originally booked, in addition to the extra we paid for a room with a private ensuite. Our bathroom was now across the hall, and the new room was significantly smaller and sterile. Although she provided us with some aperitifs (a beer and crackers), we kindly asked if we could at least be provided with a small partial refund to cover the difference in the price of the room we originally paid for, and the price of the downgraded room. Ylenia became very defensive, and since, we have texted her again requesting a partial refund which she is yet to reply to! We would absolutely not recommend this accommodation. It is still a 15/20 min walk into the main town, and for the same price, better accommodation options are available. We understand that the situation was out of her control re broken bathroom, however we were very reasonable and polite in our request, which was met with a strong defence and sass.

We’d like to clarify that the issue with the private bathroom in the originally booked room occurred suddenly the evening before your arrival, due to an unexpected technical problem beyond our control. Out of respect for you, we immediately informed you (as soon as the issue was identified) and offered the only available alternative in our guesthouse, asking clearly whether you still wished to proceed with the reservation – which you freely and voluntarily accepted, with no pressure on our part. We fully understand that the alternative room – though equipped with a private bathroom for your exclusive use, albeit external – was not identical to the original one, and we did our best to make up for the inconvenience by welcoming you warmly with a complimentary aperitif and offering our full availability throughout your stay. As for your request for a refund, we’re sorry if our communication came across as defensive. That was certainly not our intention, but rather an effort to explain that, since the reservation was confirmed and used, we had no room for a refund, even though we offered a small courtesy gesture on-site. We strive every day to improve our hospitality and welcome all constructive feedback. However, we believe it’s also fair to stand by the integrity and commitment with which we tried to manage an unforeseen issue without heavily impacting your stay. The location was a bit far from the main area of Alghero. Could here the other residents in the corridor. Parking was sparse and took a little while to find a park nearby.

Verified reviewEasily accessible, parking is free in the street in front of the building. Location was good, the room was fairly quiet for Sardinia and of good size. The bathroom was nice. All in all a good experience and stay.
In the kitchen it said that guests are welcome to grab a coffee, but there were no capsules both days we were there. Not a major problem, but we missed the coffee in the morning. 😅
