How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location was nice in a piazza in the island of Ortygia. And this was all
The facilities were poor No window no balcony although it was in the photo when I booked it! There were attic windows which were too high and practically could not be opened. So for 3 days we did not have clean air in the room When I asked the lady to have another room because this was not what I booked she refused to even check if sth was available. The bed was awful because the mattress was really bad and I could not sleep … The breakfast was not really a breakfast… It was a coffee and sth like croissant or cheespies served in the bar on the bottom of the building. Nothing else. But this is not a breakfast and it should described as this…

Verified reviewLocation is amazing
Breakfast wasn't great, it was served in cafe next door to accommodation. Coffee or fruit juice and one small pastry Only natural light was via skylight so even though location is great you can't see outside the room. Would have liked to be able to dry clothes especially after going for a swim

Verified reviewCentral location in Ortigia
The room was small, lack of storage space for stays of over 1-2 days, shower didn’t work too well.

Verified reviewThe location is great and it's next to a good restaurant. Staff was helpful and friendly.
There was a leakage in the bathroom, but that was fixed after I informed the staff. However, they didn't clean the bathroom floor afterwards. The bathroom has a discreet but constant stink of sewer. I think it comes from the sink's drain. The shower door didn't fully close, which let's water spill on the bedroom floor.

Verified reviewCentral location, nice big balcony (but no view from our room), comfortable bed.
Shower is in bedroom and was missing portion of glass so flooded some of the room. Rooms are up a few flights of stairs, not a problem for us but keep in mind.

Verified reviewThe location of the house is perfect to walking in Ortigia. It is easy to get the house and easy to go into the room. The owner send us a video how to go into the room. The house is on a nice square, good feeling going home after the little lanes. The parking area at the entrance of the island is ca. 8-10 minutes, but owner could arrange you permisson to drive in until unpacking in case of having more luggage. Room is clean and quiet, beds are comfortable.
The breakfast is in the public restaurant in front of the house and you can get only one piece of croassant. There are only sweets, nothing continental in the restaurant (neither for extra money). In the bathroom there is few showerbath. The reception is open after 9.00 am. (only in the morning) so before that time you couldn't pay for a room and going on.

Verified reviewVery central location in Ortiga, Siracuse. Even though there is no staff onsite the staff quickly replied and assisted when we had an issue with the lock on our door. Clean rooms.
I think they could benefit by adding trash bins in the room (besides the one in the bathroom), more comfortable chairs, drinking glasses, and "do not disturb/do not clean signs" for the doors. The walls are very thin, so you can hear everyone in the halls, including the cleaning staff who was gossiping quiet loud. We really wanted a day to sleep in but it was nearly impossible. I would also note for some that it is only stairs (a decent amount to climb) to all rooms. An additional note is that the included breakfast is actually from the cafe on the ground floor (not associated with the B&B) and is quite heavy or very sweet, with no healthy option (think dense pastries or granita). Moreover the writing on the breakfast coupon isn't the most clear so the restaurant staff doesn't seem to understand that the breakfast (option 2) is inclusive of a pastry, coffee, AND juice. They tried saying it was one or the other but we clarified with the hotel staff the next day and it is all three. Oh and our aircon didn't work, but it was thankfully cool enough that we were fine with just opening the window.

Verified reviewWe stayed for 3 nights in room 7. Really liked the location - we were in the "heart" of Ortigia and everything was easy to access. The room was very clean and we enjoyed the breakfast which is in the café next to our building entrance.
The shower cabin was small with no space for shampoo bottles, for example. It gets noisy after 8 a.m. in the morning. Some of the staff in the cafè weren't very polite and we needed to explain a couple of times what the breakfast includes - the coupon says salty piece, coffee, orange juice, but the lady in the café said it is either coffee, or orange juice.

Verified reviewThe room is beautiful, the view to the Piazza in astonishing and the included free breakfast that you can get from the Café/Restaurant/Bar below is great! Ortigia Island invites you to explore with the many "Area Pedonale" it provides. Breathtaking Views included! Definitely considering the B&B (If available) when returning to Ortigia/Siracusa. Verified reviewPerfect location within Ortigia, nicely renewed and wooden floor makes homey feeling. The basic breakfast is included in the price but it works well.
Unacceptable that you can pay only with cash or bank transfer (both results extra costs for the guests). Nowadays I think accepting cards is a must for everyone. The employees could not do anything - which is okay, as it is a decision made by the company which operates these rooms.
