How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

I was appalled by my stay with Alessandro and cannot recommend his B&B: he tried to push open our locked door without properly identifying himself, leaving my partner and me feeling unsafe, and the shared balcony is so open that anyone—including neighbors and the host—can walk right up to your door; when I raised these security concerns and asked for a partial refund, Alessandro dismissed me, insisted he had “knocked,” blamed me for not replying until 6 PM, and offered only a half-hearted apology, all while accusing us of making the wrong booking; on top of that, the room was clearly dirty, with visible grime on the floors and ants crawling around despite our always taking out the trash and eating only on the balcony, yet he insisted the pest problem was our fault; to make matters worse, the listing misleadingly advertises an “apartment” experience when in reality it’s a bed-and-breakfast with zero privacy, and whenever any housekeeping or maintenance is needed, Alessandro expects unfettered access—an arrangement I found entirely inappropriate and unsettling.
We opened our family-run B&B in City Life over 15 years ago, and we hosted people from all over the world and we strive to ensure our guests, who honor us with their preference, have an excellent experience while staying at our home. This begins with a clean, tidy, and welcoming environment, as well as the enjoyment of absolute privacy. Our bedrooms, like those of these reviewers, offer private entrances as well as panoramic views of the private gardens and the cathedral thanks to exclusive access to our penthouse terraces. In this case, they booked our bedroom with a private bathroom with windows, and exclusive terrace. They showed up at our door with several bags of groceries, convinced they had booked an apartment. Everyone makes mistakes, but no, not them! In fact, they search the photos on the website for a picture of a kitchen that isn't there! They try to pin their mistake on me. Receiving a bad faith review for the lack of a service we don't claim to offer is truly the worst! For the next three days of their stay, they refused to take advantage of the daily housekeeping service, which is of course legitimate, but they ate in bed, crumbling everywhere, staining the sheets with I don't know what kind of mess (so much so that I had to remove them), stuck stickers on the bedposts, and threw trash on the bathroom floor despite the fact that there's a regular trash can. They also left used medications and disgusting socks on the floor, which I don't consider legitimate or respectful. Naturally, no one entered the room without their consent. Of course, in the late morning, we attempted to clean the room, as we always do if the guest doesn't put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the doorknob. Of course, we asked if they needed a change of toilet paper and trash bags. On the evening of the third day of their four-day stay, they told me they were leaving because the room was dirty! And that they didn't feel comfortable, and this after three days! I won't tell you how chaotic the room was. I'll just say I had to air it out for a week, remove the sheets, which had been irreparably ruined by sticky black substances, and thoroughly reclaim and disinfest the entire room—just what you do when you're dealing with such a situation

Verified reviewThe rooftop Room is close to the metro, which leads directly into the city of Milano. I had a wonderful view over the city and could see the dome. Everything went smoothly. I arrived a bit early, but it was no problem and I could already get into the room.

Verified reviewThe location. Also the lady that cleans the room was very polite and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was clean and we had a small fridge and a coffee/breakfast small corner with a coffee machine. Overall i have to say that the right I would give a 7,5 for the room.
I think the balcony could be a bit more clean. The wardrobe was vintage but not in good condition on the inside, I didn't put my clothes in it.

Verified reviewLovely terrace, close to the metro, nice restaurants nearby, has a fridge, nice building with a lift, window has electric shutter/blinds to keep dark at night, air con, some toiletries provided.
Lots of street noise so bring earplugs! Asked to leave the room 10-12 each day for cleaning.

Verified reviewSuper convenient location next to a Metro stop, near streets full of great restaurants, grocers and markets, patisseries, etc. A short hop to inner-city attractions. Amazing roof terrace with views clear to the Duomo, in a gorgeous midcentury modern apartment building. Hosts were unobtrusive and very flexible when I arrived at an irregular time. A great low-key neighborhood spot to base yourself for exploring the city. Bonus: the air conditioning worked great.
It's a little worn around the edges in places, but for the price I paid, the convenience and the overall comfort, it's perfectly fine. Just needs a fresh coat of paint on the doors, etc. Otherwise zero complaints.

Verified reviewThe staff was very friendly. The location was good as it was very silent. Even though it was a good walk to get into the center I liked this location. You could take the metro that has a station very close by. The room is clean and big enough, also with a very nice balcony. It's nice that the toilet has it's own entrance.
The bed was really too small for me and one of the smallest I had so far on my holidays. Luckily it was for 2 persons so I could sleep diagonal. Further all was good!
