How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The room needed little TLC and working AC. The AC temperature could not be changed so even when we felt cold we had no choice except for switching off the AC that made the room very hot after some time. It was a major inconvenience while sleeping in the night. The breakfast needed major improvement. Would appreciate more fresh breads with better cheese choices and not just store bought packaged stuff. The juices were also just flavored sugary drinks instead of fruit juice.

Verified reviewThe location is close to most things but the hotel and sister hotel didn’t appeal to me.
I was sent to the sister hotel because the air conditioning was broken all of a sudden in my booked room. Also, they don’t have parking, you have to pay a garage they have a deal with for a price which you need to pre book so I was told. Also, if you drive near the hotel it’s a pedestrian zone which could risk a fine. 90 euros added on to my trip and then sent to the sister hotel which was very old and unappealing. It wasn’t the cleanest either with a poor breakfast selection. The staff on the desk in the initial hotel came across very hostile to my feedback in my opinion and wouldn’t even give me a managers name to escalate my concerns with. Just an “info@“ generic email.
Dear Danny, We are very sorry for the issue you experienced with the air conditioning. Unfortunately, one of the air conditioning units broke during your stay. We immediately called a technician, who had to order a replacement part that takes a few days to arrive. For this reason, in order to still provide you with the room type you had booked, including air conditioning, the only solution was to assign you a room in another hotel we own, located just 100 meters from Hotel Bigallo. I would like to sincerely apologize for this. Regarding the garage, what you wrote is completely false. We clearly explain to our guests that we do not have on-site parking and that we work with an external garage, which costs €40 per day. It is not necessary to reserve in advance, and although we are located in a pedestrian area where car traffic is restricted, you will not receive a fine if you use our partner garage. Here are the garage details we sent you via Booking.com prior to your arrival: "Our Hotel is located inside the pedestrian area, therefore non-authorised cars are not allowed to drive or park in this area. We have an agreement with Garage Alfani located in via degli Alfani, 97/r. By parking the car in this garage it is possible to drive directly to the hotel to unload the luggage. Garage costs 40 euro per 24 hours for a standard sized car (€50 for larger cars or small vans). The rate includes: parking spot always reserved for our guests; registration of the number plate on the police list for transit inside the restricted area; valet service from/to the hotel. Guests can also drive to the garage first and then reach the hotel from there. In order to have the car delivered at the hotel, the garage must be informed the evening before the requested delivery. Please note that the Garage opens at 08:00 AM and closes at 11:30 PM." I honestly do not understand what the €90 you mentioned refers to, as you paid for the room through Booking.com, and at the hotel you only paid €24 in city tax since you chose not to use our partner garage. I’m glad the staff provided you with the correct email address to use for further assistance. Verified reviewThe location was perfect – the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was just across the street from the hotel. Other main attractions (the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery, Medici Palace, and others) were only a 5–10 minute walk from the hotel.
On the last night of our stay, the air conditioner stopped working, and it was quite hot throughout the night.

Dear Mirela, Given your serious and unfounded accusations against our establishment, I feel compelled to clarify what actually happened. About a month before posting this review, you stayed at our hotel, and during your time here, you never once mentioned this alleged theft. After checking out, you asked us to check if any passports had been left behind in the room you had occupied. As per your request, we inspected the room but found neither the passports nor anything else. If it’s true that you lost a necklace in our hotel, I don’t understand why you didn’t mention it when you asked us to search the room for the passports. Instead, you are now making these serious accusations a full month after your check-out, without ever having mentioned this alleged theft before. I imagine that perhaps the necklace was lost at another property where you stayed and you may be confusing the locations. If that is not the case, we strongly encourage you to file a report with the appropriate authorities, and we will be happy to provide all the information we have. Verified reviewThe location is truly unbeatable—right in the heart of Florence, just steps from the iconic Duomo. The room was cosy and thoughtfully maintained. The staff were professional and always ready to assist, making the stay feel genuinely welcoming.
The hotel is situated in a restricted traffic zone, making it very difficult to access by car. Fortunately, the hotel offers a valet service. The breakfast lacked variety and quality compared to expectations. The elevator is small, making it inconvenient, especially when travelling with luggage or during busy hours.

Verified reviewCharming hotel in the heart of Florence. We had a lovely room with a view on Cathedral, it was amazing and made our stay unforgetable. Room was spacious, modern bathroom with bath tube, nice toiletries, cleaning was very thorough, staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent (cereals, cheese, ham, croissant, cakes, jam, yaourt, coffee), but slightly boring if you stay for long time.. We appreciated mini fridge in the room.
Hotel rooms could be a problem for people with mobility issues (there are steep stairs between floors and inside of the room also). Pillow could be more thick.
