How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewAbsolutely terrible experience, the worst in years of booking through Booking.com. The photos on Booking.com were completely misleading. In reality, it was a nightmare. The hotel was moldy and smelled bad. The room was like an unfinished attic space. Everything was dirty, moldy, and smelled of smoke, mold, and urine. The fabric wallpaper, curtains, and mattresses were covered in stains. When I requested a room change to the one we had booked, the receptionist said they didn’t have another one. Calling the Booking.com helpdesk, I was advised to negotiate directly with the hotel, which was impossible. They refused to refund the payment, cancel the reservation, or shorten our stay. NOTHING was possible. They offered us a different room for the 2nd and 3rd night, but it was just as horrible as the first. The extra bed was a folding metal cot with a metal bar in the middle and a thin foam mattress — impossible not to feel. In the end, the three of us slept on a double bed. Dirt, bad smells, mold, and cigarette odor were everywhere. The receptionist offered a diffuser to cover the odor, which didn’t help. Even with the scent sprayed, the smell of cigarettes and toilets was still noticeable. Google reviews mention bedbugs. We didn’t lift the mattresses and stayed in the room only when necessary, from 11:00 PM to 9:00 AM, spending the rest of the time elsewhere. It was a huge disappointment, ruined our stay in Venice, and the hotel’s approach was terrible. Booking.com promised a 20% discount via credits but has sent nothing, and my emails receive only automatic replies. Everything was one big disappointment. I have comparison photos of the rooms and sent them to Booking via email. This is FRAUD from the hotel! The photos were likely edited, or maybe just one model room — otherwise, it was a horror.

The perfume smell was so strong. For those with allergies to strong scents this is not the place for you.

Verified reviewLoved that it was a small old hotel with colourful red and gold curtains and bedspreads giving it a luxury touch to a budget hotel, however the lovely curtains and material wallpaper were dust collectors. The hotel is in a small side street in San Polo so it was nice and quiet at night. There is a breakfast option and a very small roofspace providing a view of the surrounding rooftops. Good selection of teas provided in our room. Would stay again.
The room could have done with a good vacuum of the floor, walls and curtains, otherwise we loved our room

Verified reviewVery good bed and comfort sleep. Very calm place, you nearly do not hear the noise from the town. It is not far to go every direction of Venice. Room 31 has a beautiful rooftop view
The bathroom sink must be washed properly, it also relates to doors and windows. Maybe that is hard to do when the ceiling is to high, but dust on the curtains wasn’t clean for a long time. Please do it! I do believe it could be an hour clean of the room and 9 points are well deserved by now

Verified reviewThe place is quiet and the bathroom is clean. However, the room is very small, making it difficult to move around. There is air conditioning, a kettle with tea and coffee, and a mini fridge.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious and comfortable and nicely decorated. The host was friendly. The location was good for the 'other side' of the Grand Canal.
The "other side" (other side from San Marco) seemed to be more of the 'party side' so was noisier and in particular, the street outside the window had some noisy people go by late in the evening. There was also a plumbing issue where the upstairs dripped into our bathroom for a little while. Not sure what the cause of that was.

Not clean, found mold in the shower… the beds are “twin beds” then put together to make a “full bed”… the shower has inconsistent “hot” water, errr… our request would be “more attention to details”.
