How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI write from the perspective of an English family; We stayed in the Portofino Suite which includes a bedroom, living room, bathroom and a terrace. The rooms were lovely. Spacious with all the luxuries one would expect in a 5 star hotel. Shampoos, soaps, conditioners and lotions. A range of coffee and teas. Still and sparkling water. A small fridge. The air conditioning kept the room cool and the humidity down although we couldn't adjust it to make it any cooler. But that wasn't an issue. The room overall was very comfortable. The chamber maids and cleaners did a really great job especially considering a family of 3 and the mess we often made! The reception staff were always friendly and very helpful. If the hotel didn't have it, they were quick to provide a solution. The pool is lovely and has various jets that will provide different massages and or keep kids entertained for a few hours. The homemade ice cream is amazing! And the cocktails were fabulous too. During 'Aperitif hour' which starts at 17:30, the most amazing nibbles can be ordered. (I have included a photo of the nibbles. This is just for 1 person!) The hotel is located 200 meters or so from the station with a very easy walk. It's also about 100 meters to the beach and promenade. Come out the hotel and walk around the building literally opposite and a small supermarket can be found. The hotel is smack bang in the middle of everything. Both the living room and the bedroom in the Portofino suite have quite large Samsung TV screens. Easy to get to the ports and plug in a Fire Stick. If needs be, go into the settings and change the audio language to English. Some channels offer their programs in Italian, English and other languages. The hotel overall is very clean. Great helpful staff and so easy! Quiet in the evenings as no 'entertainment' is provided. Very relaxing. Super value for money.
I write from the perspective of an English family; Breakfasts. We tried hard as the buffet style breakfast had quite a reasonable selection but, it was crawling with flies and sometimes wasps too. None of the other guests seemed to mind but for us, sadly, it was a no go. Perhaps it was just us? Mosquitoes. The hotel tried hard. Citronella candles everywhere (which, in the evenings make it pretty too) but even with our max strength Jungle Juice DEET sprays poured on to every inch of our browning bodies, we were still stung quite a bit. The Portofino Suite only has 1 toilet facility. As such, if receiving guests, they will be using the only bathroom. Having 1 'loo' for a couple is fine. But when a small family is faced with the only 'loo' being in the bathroom, things can get quite desperate, especially in the morning when the shower is being used and someone else just woke up and is desperate! Most other suites we have enjoyed normally have a separate guest loo.

Verified reviewAmazing location, private parking available, useful small fridge in room. Attic room was big and comfortable with access to roof terrace, practical to dry towels and sit out peacefully. Within real walking distance from the beach. Beautiful food.
Pool closes at 18:30 (not on the dot) but would have liked to enjoy the pool longer. Nonetheless thankful for it.

Verified reviewThe hotel is very close to the beach. In front of the hotel, there is a pool with some shadow around. Sunbeds and benches on the roof make very cosy atmosphere. Parking is available on the hotel grounds. Rooms are cleaned well.
the room has a kitchenette (a 2-burner stove and a small fridge) but no dishes at all. It is important to note because neither the hotel's restaurant nor almost any other restaurant in the village serves lunch. The hotel provides chaises-longues on the beach only to guests who paid for demi-pension. While communication with front desk is efficient, room service speaks little English or Italian - so their poor communication sounds rather rude. Also, schedule of room cleaning is weird: when you come back from the beach around noon to take shelter from heat at its peak, you find out that this is exactly the time when the room is being serviced. Room service somehow did not notice an air conditioner leakage right in the middle of the room and never cleaned bins (we had to take our garbage out ourselves).
Good morning, We are pleased to know that you appreciated some of the strengths of our hotel: the proximity to the Deiva Marina beach (we are located just 100 meters from the sea), the outdoor area completely renovated at the beginning of 2025 with a new swimming pool with hydromassage, citrus plants, outdoor seating area, sun loungers by the pool and on the third-floor terrace with a sea view, and the garden parking — free of charge! A true rarity in Liguria! However, we feel it is necessary to clarify some inaccuracies for your benefit and for the benefit of all our guests. The reservation you made independently through the booking.com platform was for a hotel room, not for an apartment with a kitchen. All our rooms are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom with shower or hydromassage tub, satellite TV, kettle with a small tea station, safe, and a minibar with complimentary water (as stated in your booking confirmation). Additionally, 3 out of our 30 rooms also have a baby food heating corner for infants and small children (this feature is not listed in your booking confirmation). Families with small children often specifically request this room type: in such cases, we provide small plates and pans for the baby corner. By pure coincidence, the superior triple room you were assigned does include a baby food heating corner, but we did not find it necessary to equip it with teddy bear plates, tiny forks, or colorful pans, since your family is made up of 3 adults. If you return to our region in the future and need cooking facilities, we suggest booking one of our apartments. We have 6 in total: 4 located in the center of Deiva Marina, near the hotel and just steps from the beach, and 2 in the Cinque Terre — one in Riomaggiore and one in Corniglia — both with sea views. Regarding the claimed impossibility of having lunch, while it is true that most restaurants open in the evening, there are several delicatessens in town open every day, including holidays, also at lunchtime, offering both hot and cold dishes. In addition, there are focaccias shops, cafés, and restaurants located within the beach resorts. After a long period in which our kitchen was open from 12 PM to 10 PM non-stop, we decided to open only for dinner in recent years. This is largely due to a shift in guest habits: after a rich breakfast at the hotel, most prefer a quick picnic on the beach or during their excursions. In the evening, our restaurant offers a rich daily menu for guests who choose half board, and an à la carte menu served poolside, which is also very popular among non-resident guests. Furthermore, if you book directly a half board package for at least 7 nights during the months of June, July, or September, it includes complimentary beach service offered by the hotel: 1 beach umbrella and 2 deck chairs at a beach resort located 100 meters from the hotel, along with a welcome beach towel. As for our housekeeping staff, all the ladies speak Italian fluently, are meticulous in their work, friendly in nature, and always willing to meet guests' needs — provided, of course, that these needs are communicated to them. All rooms, both for check-in and check-out, are prepared by 2 PM. Guests who kindly request to have their room ready by a specific time are always accommodated — as was the case for you, as you certainly noticed, once you clearly communicated this request to us. Lastly, a brief note regarding the small water leak from the air conditioner that occurred during your stay: when the weather is particularly hot and humid, as is often the case in summer, condensation can form in the air conditioning units. It’s no one's fault — it just happens. As you’ll surely recall, our specialized staff immediately took care of it and resolved the issue promptly. We hope to welcome you again in the future and wish you a wonderful summer.

Verified reviewA lovely, smallish hotel in Deiva Marina. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was clean with a great sized comfortable bed, fridge and balcony. The bathroom was spacious with a good shower and plenty of fluffy bath towels. The room was cleaned daily. A lovely quiet pool area and outdoor seating, again well maintained and very clean and tidy. We would definitely recommend and hope to visit and stay again.
Nothing, loved it there.

Verified reviewVery friendly and helpful staff. The food in the restaurant was also good. I think the swimming pool looks lovley, as the whole garden around it. During my one-night-stay in was raining constantly, so I didn’t use the pool. Everything was very clean.
I had a single room and the bathroom was just the smallest I have ever seen.

Deiva Marina itself seems a little ‘tired’. The hotel is by far the best thing there.
