My partner would have loved a bit more lighting in the bathroom, or a small, lighted makeup mirror. The room also didn't have a closet (just a small rod to hang a few garments). This is more than understandable (you're staying in an ancient cave!) but a small set of drawers or some shelves would have been great.

Traveled with my partner and spent two nights at the lovely Corte San Pietro. Anne was a fantastic host - from the warm welcome + unexpected room upgrade, followed by an explanation of the Sassi and tour of our room, to her indispensable help with booking taxis and dinner reservations, to leaving us a light meal on our last morning since we were leaving before breakfast service - she was superb. The care she and her staff put into the premises and guest experience is second to none. We felt genuinely welcome. The location is also perfectly central and can be reached directly by taxi, no extra walking required.

The temporary construction site is located behind, but the noise level was not excessive.

Amazing stay at Corte San Pietro! Comfortable rooms in a unique historic setting with original cisterns underground excellent service, and a perfect location. All staff members were lovely. Breakfast felt five-star with a pianist playing in the background—huge thanks to Angela for her warmth and friendliness. Great value for money with thoughtful details everywhere. Highly recommend!

The only criticism we have is the website says parking, but there isn’t any hotel parking, there are public and private car parks , which are a good 15 to 20 minute walk. There is a private taxi service , at a cost of £15 euros each way and with parking on top makes the cost of staying there a little expensive.

One of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. Hotel is beautiful, staff are incredibly professional and helpful and made our stay amazing. The location is perfect, breakfast was great, and the room was beautiful, big and very clean. Owners greeted and spoke to us at breakfast and are a lovely humble couple. Highly recommend this hotel to enhance your stay in Matera.

The bed could be a little softer.

The cave rooms were a highlight of our trip. Location was perfect to see the Sassis. The staff was incredibly attentive. Ana checked us in and answered questions we didn’t even know we had. The breakfast was generous and again the staff were attentive and kind. Definitely check out the cistern system below the breakfast room!

A unique cave stay that feels luxurious. All the little touches make it feel special, awesome host, location, personalised name plaque, quality products. Delicious breakfast with pianist and a underground cistern tour to top it off.

The hotel and room itself are gorgeous, but the real stars of the show are the personnel - the service felt very personalised and that the personnel are very invested in the guests. The breakfast with sweet and savoury local delights was also great.

This is a really perfect place to stay for a trip to beautiful Matera. Every member of the hotel staff were so friendly and helpful providing interesting historical information and tips on places to visit. The accommodation was so comfortable and situated within easy walking distance of lovely bars and restaurants.

No door between room and bathroom. Also the lighting in the room was pretty bad. It was really dark.

Sassi is not accessible by car, so had to park outside. The private parking was 20 euros and 10 mins walk away (or €15 shuttle). I’m fine paying but wish this was indicated before booking.

Perfect location in the Sassi. You are close to everything you need to go in Matera. The whole place is beautiful and you can visit their historic cave, which is very surprising and fascinating. Room is clean, facilities are modern. Staff are friendly, helpful and thoughtful. Breakfast is served and not buffet, well balanced meal with live piano.
