How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewBest breakfast and dinner ever. We’ve been in many luxurious and even Michelin stars restaurants in our life, and I can say with total honesty that their food was one of the best we’ve ever tried. There is a big selection of food, for all the tastes, the menu was changing every evening and the staff was over the top. Very friendly, kind and nice, always there to help you with everything. The location was perfect, in the middle of everything and only 3 minutes walking distance from the beach.
We had a reservation for a 2 room apartment and when we arrived, we realized that this apartment was not in the hotel building ( which was a very nice and stylish building). The apartment was in an obscure building vis-a-vis from the hotel. This building had nothing to do with the pictures of the actual hotel. And while it was clean, and we had everything we needed, in the bathroom there was a visible stain of mold, and in the rooms there were a few spider webs. Also, while the actual hotel building had an elevator, this building had only external stairs, so we had to carry all the time our baby in the stroller on the stairs. I think it will be fair for people make reservations in this hotel but who will actually be placed in the additional building to be informed before arrival.

Verified reviewThe hotel's location is great. Less than a 10-minute walk to the train station, where trains run frequently along the coast between Ravenna - Rimini and further. The beach is very close and had several options for eating, drinking and sunbathing. Breakfast was delicious and had a great variety of options. Good surprise was the water dispenser for guests to refill bottles- it was much needed. The hotel's dinner menu also impressed us with its variety and quality. Everything was very delicious and a great experience. The hotel room was large, didn't hear any noise from outside, and had everything we needed. The only noise came from a local summer festival, but it stopped rather early each day. The hotel staff is friendly, welcoming, and always available to help.

The final apartment we were moved to was spacious and comfortable — our two younger children could sleep in a separate bedroom, and our older daughter stayed in the living room. The location was convenient, and the staff was polite.
We didn’t receive the apartment we had booked for the first night. Instead of a 2-bedroom + living room apartment, we were given one with only 1 bedroom and a living room, where three of us had to sleep together — including on a bunk bed placed near the fridge. The hotel moved us to the correct apartment the next day, but the first night and the arrival experience were a nightmare. They offered to waive the €45 city tax, but we declined it — especially since they also refused to reimburse even the price difference between the two room types. We were very disappointed with how the situation was handled.

We booked a room at Hotel Estense in Gatteo Mare through Booking.com, specifically choosing a room with a kitchen for four people. Upon check-in, we were directed to a different building located about 20 meters from the main hotel. The room was in poor condition: it was dirty, and the toilet had remnants clearly left behind by previous guests. We took photos and submitted them with a complaint on Booking.com. When I approached the reception about the issue, the hotel owner offered us a €100 dinner as compensation, which I perceived as a bribe to cover up the deception, and we refused it. I would also like to point out that the listing on Booking.com did not mention that the room was located in a separate building, nor were there any hotel signs on that building. In addition, the bathroom had a large window that could not be closed, which caused discomfort and unpleasant smells from a neighboring toilet. We were disappointed, as we expected more comfortable conditions in line with the website description and the hotel’s rating. I hope the hotel owners will take steps to improve cleanliness, fix the window issue, and provide accurate information about their rooms on booking platforms.

Verified reviewVery nice family owned buotique hotel 2 streets from the seaside. Nicely decorated small room, perfect for a short summer holiday. Clean and tidy, staff is welcoming, breakfast is far beyond 3 stars. The lobby of the hotel also more like a 4 star. We would likely come back. Free parking nearby.
Well, nothing really, spa is for a plus fee, but this is correctly communicated. Room is a bit small.
