How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. What a terrible experience at this property. We arrived hot and exhausted on a 33 Celsius degree day to enter an apartment where the aircon did not work and, when my partner went to shower, found glass in the shower and it was missing a pane of glass. Eventually we managed to turn the aircon on by holding the remote upside down and pressing down on the batteries. But alas. The aircon must have been 30 years old because it did barely anything. Furthermore, there’s no chance of leaving the aircon running while you’re out to attempt to cool the place down because there is only one set of keys you must take with you. The operator’s only solution (at my instigation) to the shower problem was to bring extra towels because it was impossible to shower without getting water all over the floor. And they did not even deliver on this. The rest of the apartment had cupboards comingu off the hinges and was clearly old and falling apart. We weren’t even provided with coffee pods for our stay and ONE roll of toilet paper. The water pressure was non-existent. The list goes on. Truly a horrible experience that we were forced to endure for four nights in sweltering heat, with a virtually unusable shower and aircon. Avoid at all costs.

This was our worst experience on booking.com. We were already travelling we were informed via email the on-line check in didn’t work. Then they switched to personal WhatsApp for communication. They wouldn’t give details until we paid via a 3rd party App and said booking.com payments were for warranty only. We started to feel very uncomfortable and began to think we were being scammed. Once payment was made we were sent instructions in a photo in WhatsApp so it was hard for us to translate. We also had to go to a separate address first with our passports before we could get into the apartment. The place we went to appeared to be the home of an elderly Lady not dressed for work - more housewife- she didn’t speak English but was at least pleasant.However we again felt uncomfortable as she photographed our documents, we worried about our personal data. She couldn’t direct us beyond reiterating the address. When we did find the apartment we could only get into the building when a neighbour buzzed us in. After this we could access the apartment via key pad following a WhatsApp exchange. Keys were inside the apartment. We did not feel welcome. It took 2 hours from arriving in Florence to accessing apartment. And just 20 minutes for the reverse trip. In the apartment it was too cold to be comfortable. The air con/ heating didn’t even appear to have a fuse in the control box. This was despite frequent review comments over the last 12 months commenting on this. I think managers of this property are treating the visitors with contempt. There was no effort to check we were sorted even though we communicated our problems as we went along. We are a retired couple of 77 and 67. Lucky to have life experience if not so tech savvy.

After the initial contact, the communication turned into commands and after I became more and more unconfirtable, they even refused to organize the handover of the keys. At the end I booked another accomodation to have peace of mind.

The checkin process was terrible. First of all they dont share the instructions in Booking.com but rather they share it only in personal Whatsapp chat. They dont respond to messages in time and did not attend the call. It was mentioned to call a telephone number to open the main door but that number was unreachable. We tried to call the WhatsApp number where they shared the check in instructions and they declined the call. Finally opened the door after reading the WhatsApp message. Next one was the apartment door pin which was also not working. The apartment entrance area is a congested place and there is no network coverage in the narrow corridor. I had to go back to the main door area 3 floors down to get the network coverage, called them many times and they did not answer. We had to wait almost half an hour to get a response in WhatsApp. Finally they opened the apartment door, when I enquired about the wrong pin in instructions got a casual reply "sometime it may not work". We had to go though such a bad checkin experience which almost took 1 hour, that too with a little baby in the freezing cold. The apartment was really cold and it doesnt have proper heating. The lift is just for name sake and it cant even fit a single baby stroller.

Verified reviewPerfect Location! Building was historical. There wascoffee machine and capsules, we loved it. House was really cozy. Also you can find some items that you need like umbrella.
The lock of the door was strange. We couldn’t locked from inside because there isn’t any hole for key. There was only chain. Bathroom was really tiny. air conditioner didn’t work properly. Check-in can be more early.

The door was always a bit open (there was no possibility to close it using key from inside, only with chain) which I found not enough safe and additionally uncomfortable (noises and light from stairs). Bathroom was very small and not enough clean. Floor was partially damaged.

The Air conditioning wasn’t working at all & the owner didn’t bother to get it fixed even after multiple asks. Extremely small elevator & very small bathroom. If you are tall this isn’t the place for you because the ceiling height is low. Way too expensive for such a small house.

Host insisted on payment via a 3rd party payment system and provided details via whatsapp - only 48hr was provided for this and seemed sketchy when they say payment at the property and there is no option to so so. Air conditioning is rubbish and takes hours to cool room. Bed frame was broken.

Verified reviewThis was a great apartment in an excellent location - my only complaint was the water pressure in the shower - its not US standards, but is adequate. Bed was comfortable, and the AC worked well. Quiet, no street noise. There was no luggage storage after our stay, but there were plenty of short term luggage storage place to use within 20 yards.

Verified reviewWe had a very stressful time getting into property.. instructions didn’t tally with location. The locks where antiquated and difficult to operate with pin/ front ( was non existent) the neighbour buzzed us in. Very poor communication asking for help. The apartment door lock malfunctioned, and we dare not leave apartment to eat. Eventually left around 10 to eat dinner.. nighmare. This morning the electric blew, so we could not see in bathroom and had to leave apartment unlocked. Very disappointing.
