Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hotel strategically located at top of the hills with amazing views from the room and the breakfast terrace. The room was spacious and the air conditioning worked perfectly during the day. Staff were outstanding; helpful and respectful. Taking the elevators to the shore and to the swimming area was amazing and provided a unique experience.

United KingdomRight, l reported to the evening reception gentleman (tall large chap) that the spa wasn’t working. Later the next evening I asked him what was happening. His reply was that the maintenance man had a look and it needed a part . What he didn’t realise I had marked up in pencil lines over the control console and the main power switch by the door. The same lines were present therefore nothing had been checked ( I am an engineer). Therefore being told an untrue response isn’t good and resulting loss of face . The pool was out of season so fair enough, however nowhere to sit comfortably in a relaxed environment to read and have a drink or coffee/ tea which is unacceptable given the high rating. In short your room is the only place which on a rainy day would certainly be bored. No in room tea/coffee making facilities very poor. Shame we won’t stay here again and recommend the Due Mare which although less attractive has much better facilities including a spa and indoor swimming pool plus relaxing library and sitting room and cosy bar. So simply it was bed and breakfast nothing more.
The location and history was excellent. The staff on arrival were great and helpful. We had room 103 with spa bath. Good breakfast with great service. Parking good. Had a 6 night stay.

United KingdomEverything was delightful and we had a wonderful week. The view from our room over the park towards the sea and Monte Portofino was exceptionally beautiful and restful, and the furniture and polished floors were elegant. The situation of the whole hotel is magical and its history fascinating. The current proprietor is clearly passionate about it and attentive to the maintenance of high standards . A lot of trouble is taken and the staff are extremely dedicated and charming - from Pietro the omniscient and brilliant barman from whom we learned so much about wine and with whom it was a pleasure and a privilege to talk, to Simone and Daniele th e sommeliers, to the calm, professional and thoughtful young women who presided over breakfast (and one tireless young man who looked after us evening and morning ), to the lovely young woman serving at dinner whose boyfriend in the kitchen made an anniversary greeting for us, to signora Franca who thought of putting flowers in our room, to the man who gave us a lift to and from the station, to all those we didn’t see (especially the excellent chef and team) but who made our stay memorable. Thank you to everyone! The pool was great and again had very thoughtful and helpful staff. What a treat!

United StatesThere was no pool. The pool was a “natural” pool and you have to pay extra to use it. The color of the water was not what i expected … due to fhe reflection of the rocks, a dark blue/gray, not the beautiful turquoise color Portofino is famous for.
Beautiful property and very welcoming staff.

United KingdomThe room decor is a bit random and all over the place. The fact that the lift directly down to the bathing facilities was out of order was a bit of a shame, as was the rockfall which had cut off our favourite place to sunbathe. The latter, of course, is no fault of the hotel. The shower could be much better in terms of both pressure and temperature.
The bar. The bar was excellent. Custom cocktails, great advice, and friendly service. And not badly priced for the experience. The bartender is a true asset to the hotel. The setting is incredible. Few hotels can bost anything like the setting. Breakfast is good if not especially varied. The decor is fitting, and all of the staff were friendly and welcoming, as well as being efficient. Loads of storage in the room. Room was also very large. The restaurant had a great menu and the wine pairings were excellent.
