How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe location is awesome, very close to the Santa Croce square and in a walkable distance from all main points of interest in Florence. The staff is very friendable and attentive (specially Mario and Fabrizio).
The hotel is located in a historic building, so you can expect smaller rooms and no elevators. However, IMO this is completely understandable, since most buildings in Florence date back to ancient times and their structure cannot be altered.

Verified reviewThe Hotel Santa Croce is very well located in the historic part of Florence .Mario is very passionate about running this hotel and gave us info about what to see .The breakfast was fairly adequate.The hotel is located in a very old building that is protected ,so very limited renovations are allowed .
The shower is very small but we managed.We understand that limited renovations are allowed

Verified reviewWe were received incredibly well, the host even gave us travel tips. Our apartment was very spacious and well placed, surrounded by historical monuments. The AC was working well.
A bed was a bit rough but nothing concerning.

Rooms are small, but it’s not a big concern if you are most of the time out, visiting the tons of attractions of the city.

Regarding your note about the size of the room, we remind you they are a typical feature of ancient buildings like ours which is a medieval tower house that is over 400-500 years old. The economy double rooms are compact both in the room and in the bathroom, as clearly indicated in the online description and that is also the reason they have a lower price than other larger room types, for example the family triple rooms which are a little bit bigger both in the room and in the bathroom. No elevator our room was on the fourth floor.

Regarding the stairs, we remind you that, as you know, the Hotel is a very ancient building of Middle Age / Renaissance, an over 400 years old Historical Tower located on the remains of the Roman Amphitheater of Florence, next to Michelangelo's house. They are typical of this kind of historic palace, as well as of most of the city's buildings and monuments. We would also like to point out that our Staff carried on your luggage to your room during the day, although this service is not offered in a Hotel of our category. The kitchen is really small. No coffee machines.

Regarding the kitchen of the studio that you booked, it is perfectly represented in the pictures of the accommodation that you booked and obviously it's a compact kitchen, but it was something you should have already known before confirming the reservation since all the details are clearly reported online as well as the real pictures. Moreover, we don't understand why you wrote that there is no coffee machine. Verified reviewSimple and nice 2 star hotel. Excellent location, no more than 10-20 minutes walking to a lot of sights and museums. Beautiful old building. What really made the stay special was the hosts Mario and Gabriel. They were so friendly and welcoming. When we arrived they gave us a drink and tips on where to go. I lost one of my earrings down the sink when I was drying my hair, they took apart the water pipe and found it for me. If that's not going above and beyond then I don't know what is! The breakfast was continental, toast with marmalade, cheese or ham, yoghurt, egg muffins, sweet pastries and tea/coffee. No frills but tasty, what I expect in southern Europe. We stayed on the 3rd floor, there no lift (probably due to the building being several hundred years old) but it was very manageable. The room was like the pictures. The mattress was maybe a few years old and a bit sunken in the middle, but we both slept very well for 3 nights. For the price we payed we were very happy. I would definitely recommend and if we come back back to Florence we will stay at Hotel Santa Croce again. Grazie!
