Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaNothing. It was a lovely place to stay. About 12kms from San Gimignano, but this did not worry us.
We loved the farm environment and surrounding scenery. There was a lovely pool, which was welcome on hot days. Everything worked for us, and we enjoyed a relaxing time.

CanadaThe road going up the house is narrow and bumpy but not a deal breaker at all!
Exactly as pictured, it was absolute paradise. The owners are nice, always working but not intrusive at all. The views are unbeatable. We had everything in the kitchen to prep breakfast. Beds where comfortable and good shower pressure. Easy to drive too from Florence. We would book here again in a heart beat!

AustraliaThere is nothing to dislike about this property. Driving around the area can be challenging (particularly when wet) and you definitely need a car. Make sure you stick to the main road in and don’t always follow google maps!
Il Coltro was a beautiful villa with the most picturesque views. The owners were so incredibly helpful, particularly when we had car trouble. The family dog Nina, just made the stay even more homely! Such a relaxing and wonderful stay!

United StatesAlthough we knew going in it was difficult as a family with two young kids to access restaurants during our stay. We would have loved to have the opportunity to enjoy Italian food. Instead we had to make multiple trips to a local supermarket to buy small snacks for food during our stay. If you don't have anything restricting you from driving to restaurants when they are open then this is a great place.
The location was amazing with great views. Hosts were welcoming and kind throughout our stay.

United KingdomThere is nothing not to like!
Everything! The property is beautiful, the gardens and pool are immaculate. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with terrace to the front and side, the views were spectacular. The apartment has everything you need to enjoy staying at home for lunches or dinners, which we did a few times as we were traveling with our 4 months old baby. Mauro and Donatella were lovely and very helpful. Great restaurant recommendations and they were kind enough to make reservations for us when we asked. If you want to explore you need a car, but I'd happily have stayed and enjoyed the peacefulness that Il Coltro offers.

United KingdomI don’t think there was anything really negative. For couples booking I would be mindful that this is a family accommodation, there are families with young children. You must have a car to stay at this property.
Beautiful quiet location in the Tuscany countryside. Fabulous view across to San Gimigano. You very much feel like you are staying in somebody’s home. The apartment was comfortable and clean with everything we needed. The pool was lovely. We fell in love with Nina and Pongo! Mauro and Donnatella were fabulous hosts! So welcoming and helpful!

The surrounding is just breathtaking and quiet, and swimming pool was spotlessly clean! Mauro and Donatella are wonderful hosts, very kind and warm people. We enjoyed the presence of their dogs, Pongo and Nina, so much. Also, the location of the property is perfect for exploring Tuscany without long drives. We will be definitely coming back many times! :)

United Arab EmiratesIt will be great when you sit outside to see the view of San Gimignano, from the pool you can see it but not from the area in front of the house where tables and chairs are. I understand why though. Also if you have small kids like us make sure to maintain the noise levels as it is a peaceful and quiet environment, which was hard at times.
Absolutely beautiful, we stayed in a two bed apartment which was spacious and perfect our boys, age 5. Everything provided inside the apartment was well maintained. The surroundings are extremely well taken care of too. Views of San Gimignano from our first floor was stunning. The owners were so helpful. I already miss the lady!

excellent self contained traditional Tuscan villa accommodation. Good central base for daily excursions. Had the extra little things like olive oil, spices, washing up items that you didn’t have to go and buy. It’s about 15mins drive from San Gimiagano. The owners are really lovely and Nina there dog is super friendly and greets you at the gate. Hot water was good, ceiling fan. Has air con but didn’t use it. Washing machine with detergent was handy. IsraelThe road to the property includes a dirt road part that may get muddy and tricky to pass. It's a 20 minutes drive to San Gimignano, and more to other Tuscan spots, so be mindful of that.
This is a real gem in the heart of Tuscany. Very cute rooms and even cuter owners who go a great deal to help you in your stay. The apartment was very welcoming and had all we needed. The great lawn and the nice pool, situated in a very Tuscan scenario, make this place a perfect place for relaxation.
