How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

We had quite a bit of luggage and host was incredibly helpful in helping us find transportation from the train station to our stay and was able to check in early. She was also very helpful with recommendations and suggestions for our stay. Would highly recommend and would stay again.

Verified reviewAn excellently located location, in the old town, a few meters from the Santo Stefano viewpoint, clean, functional, a superb view from the terrace. It is a historic house, full of charm and a very kind host who told us everything we needed to know. All the small inconveniences below did not affect our comfort and vacation too much, overall it was good
The terrace was not covered, so we could only use it early in the morning and in the evening. I would recommend a roof on the structure to provide shade and a water vapor sprayer for cooling, because there are many hot days The room is not very large, but being in a historic house, it is normal Breakfast is provided at a terrace/patisserie in the area, located 300 meters away and is not too rich (a croissant + juice + coffee) One of the mornings it was provided to us at a terrace that opened too late for us. I think the host would be much more successful and it would be much more convenient for the guests if they arranged a mini breakfast up on the terrace, using the same system as the drinks service
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. I’d like to take this opportunity to clarify a few points. On June 30th and July 1st, unfortunately, the strong Mistral wind made it unsafe to install the sunshades on the terrace, as a precaution for the safety of guests and pedestrians in the nearby alleys. We truly regret this, especially since the terrace is one of the most appreciated features of the property — spacious, panoramic, and quite rare in the historic center. The breakfast included in the rate is served at a renowned café in the historic center, just a four-minute walk from the property, and offers guests the possibility to choose from a selection of drinks and pastries. I noticed, however, that you ordered less than what was included. Finally, you initially welcomed the suggestion of an alternative café, which opens at 8:30 AM and is often appreciated by guests with slightly later departures. Love the rooftop sun beds Great location - amazing Alda thinks of everything, even gave us an Easter gift and told us about the things to see here Great recommendations It is a little noisy but alda has that under control for nighttime with door to cover windows inside and outside for noise control and as it’s an caring building super thick’s walls are very soundproof Alda even asked us for extra towels etc and helped us changed our booking to stay an extra night

The room is clean, cosy, it has a lot of character as the house was built around the 14th century and the owners have preserved the character of the building. Comfortable bed, great terrace and view. Verified review- Shared rooftop terrace is lovely. - The host was very helpful, she met us at the paid off-site car-parking which she arranged and showed us to the room. She also tried to fix the issues we raised. - The location is in the old town which was a nice surrounding but was also a downside given the nature of the room.
- Not clear from the listing or the photos that the room is a small room on the ground floor and directly on the street in a busy area with high foot traffic. - No windows - The only natural light is from a door that opens out to the street which means that it is not usable in practice. - The air conditioning unit is an older fan-style unit (not ducted outside) which is noisy and is not sufficient in the summer heat. We asked the host to look at the AC at which point we were given a second key card to leave it on throughout the day but the difference this made was minimal.

You wrote to me and told me on the phone and in person that you would have to check out early for work reasons, but you never highlighted such serious complaints about the room that would require you to leave. I started my business only 3 years ago, so the air conditioning system is definitely modern and not just a simple old fan-style unit; The air conditioner was working perfectly, and it is possible that, on those days with external temperatures of about 40°C, the airflow from the air conditioner, set to the maximum, would be annoyingly audible in the silence of the night. In fact, following the advice of the technician I promptly contacted, even though he was on vacation, to address this understandable discomfort, I suggested that you leave the air conditioner on all day, even in your absence, so that for the night, it would be enough to keep the airflow to a minimum. Regarding the characteristics of the room not widely mentioned, I inform you as follows: If you had carefully read the descriptions on Booking.com, you would have seen that the room size and its location on the ground floor are rigidly indicated. It is obvious that if you choose a guesthouse in the heart of the historic center of Polignano a Mare, the area will be busy. The room has sound-absorbing curtains on a large door window overlooking the alley, and it is not true that no light passes through, because it certainly does. I am deeply astonished because we said goodbye with the utmost politeness, and again assured me that you had to leave early for your job. The least I could do was partially refund the parking fee, even though it was already booked for the entire period you requested. Kind regards, Alda
