Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt’s too far away to go every weekend! 😂
A sensationally beautiful location and building, l‘Eremo Rifugio is run by a dedicated, super friendly team of people, providing a unique overnight experience in the beautiful forests near Portofino. After a swim , we had dinner outside under the stars, saw a family of wild boars and fireflies all around us - magical! The team led by Luca could not have been friendlier, the food and wine was delicious, the house us beautiful and the walks to the gorgeous bay at Paraggio for a swim and into Portofino are really stunning! Would go back in a heartbeat!

United KingdomWas fine for me (and plenty of clear notice given ) but a good 10-15 steep climb to property . I had a rucksack so easy - with suitcases would be a challenge . No AC and no or little blinds/curtains - but if you are happy to be up early and enjoy fantastic nature , it’s wonderful
Beautiful location, incredibly friendly staff, peaceful in nature and nobody else around but just 15/20 minutes walk to Portofino . Some amazing walks and runs in hills .

United KingdomIt is lacking many features that normal accommodation would have ( eg locks on doors- even the bathroom, curtains, safe). sleep disturbed by wild boars munching ! Expensive for what felt more like a hostel. toiletries provided were very basic.
Its different! fantastic location in the woods above one of the best beaches in liguria, and easy walk to portofino. on hiking path in national park. convivial atmosphere with other guests and staff. breakfast ( boiled egg, toast, yoghurt, fruit, coffee) included. dinner available on site was simple but reasonably priced. beds are very big and comfortable. walk from road is as described (8- 10 min walk up hill on uneven ground but well marked path). Staff very helpful and give good advice about hikes. Historical building.

From arriving up the steep track, we were warmly greeted by Jacamo and provided water and info on the Monasteries history. We had a gorgeous meal that evening all at normal prices. We absolutely loved this small haven of sanctuary with stunning views over Portofino.

AustraliaVery friendly and helpful staff. The food is delicious and the place has a lovely feel to it. Up in the hills but not far from beautiful swimming spots. Make sure you read the simple instructions for directions that the property sends you as I made the mistake of not reading it and using google maps which doesn’t work well in the area.

United KingdomOur room was a bit small, the bed could have been softer.
Staff are very friendly. The in-house food is really worth it, home-cooked, cheap and much more authentic than some of the stuff in the town. It's convenient as well because it is a steep climb and a walk to and back from Portofino bay for dinner. The whole ethos of the place is really cool and so nice to relax in the evening.

CanadaThe climb that is really steep is mentioned in their profile so there was surprise there I would recommend maybe to try to improve the WiFi connection although I know some people look at this as a place to get away from everything , but my work unfortunately needs me to stay connected at all times so I had to to go down below to make some calls , not a big deal but something to improve Also I think you guys may want to think about some housekeeping for the rooms in the future , again wasn’t a big issue but maybe something Otherwise nothing to dislike
This is an experience for those who would value the real meaning of things A genuine place with charm and character , with real people who run the place with passion and love I never imagined I can sleep comfortably with no AC in the middle of July and scorching temperatures, but due to the elevation and design of the place , you actually feel cold at night at times Breakfast was simple and tasty and organic , we tried dinner and was amazing and reasonably priced Luca and the other owners ( sorry I didn’t get their names ) are super nice and super helpful The beach down below ( Paraggi and the small one beside it ) are probably amongst the best in the area , I really enjoyed it Thank you for the nice gift of fresh fruits and book when we left , my family and I will never forget you and we will come back in the future

United KingdomJust wish we could have picked this place up and moved it to somewhere that was surrounded by less busy towns. Unfortunately we really didn't like how busy and dripping in money and privilege Portofino was, yes it is pretty, but at a what cost and that is if you can find space to view it. Most of the beaches are covered in sun beds and the tiny bit of public beach is crammed with bodies. Such a juxtaposition from the laid back hip vibe of the monastery. They were charging between 150-300 euros for sun beds? So sad that even the beach has been monetised.
This place is enchanting, set up in the hills and back to basics. Such a contrast to the overcrowded Portafino and surrounding towns. This is a real nature lovers dream, very serene, amazing food and breakfast – if you are after 5 star luxury and are not keen on going back to basics, this place is not for you. With its own natural spring and all organic food, the breakfasts and meals were a real treat. And much more affordable than the surrounding area. Lovely walks up into the hills. I would definitely return here, but out of the tourist season. Thank you for reminding us to slow down.

BelgiumNothing, but as a minor tip, I would add is an extra wooden sunsscreen or a curtain in our room (Granoia) at the side of the sea there is already one there, but the window facing the forest does not have one, just to have a bit more privacy
First of all, we had a super warm welcome after our climb. Secondly the place, it's in total harmony with nature and you truly feel that you went back in time, a really nice experience. Finally there is also the incredible view on the sea. I never forget my stay here, truly amazing.

SwedenThe scenery with the surrounding forrest, small garden plantations and the view over the Mediterranean Sea was beautiful. A good place to recharge after hectic days in the bigger cities. The staff were also very nice and the restaurant offered lunch and dinner at affordable prices, so we ended up not leaving the place for a whole day just enjoying.
