How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat little apartment. we only stayed one night but would definitely be comfortable for a few nights here
Nothing we didnt like, but be cautious of the parking. Getting out of the street is HARD. it is extremely tight and I thought I was going to scratch the rental car. It's easier to park at the nearby piazza, but be cautious of timed parking areas.
Dear Sarah, thank you so much for your kind words and the perfect score you gave us! I’m truly happy you enjoyed the apartment, even if it was just for one night. Knowing you would have gladly stayed a few more nights is the best compliment I could receive. 💛You’re absolutely right the little street can be quite narrow, especially with a rental car or if you’re not very confident with tight spaces. I always recommend parking in the nearby square it’s definitely easier and less stressful. Thank you for pointing that out so clearly and kindly it will surely help future guests! Wishing you all the best, and who knows, maybe see you again sometime!

Verified reviewThe accommodation itself was absolutely excellent. We arrived several hours earlier than planned, but the hosts kindly allowed us to check into the room right away after just one quick phone call. Super kind, efficient, and helpful — we’re very thankful for that flexibility. The room/apartment was spotless, newly renovated, and tastefully decorated with a modern, fresh touch. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout our stay. Everything was thoughtfully prepared, clean, and in top condition. We truly felt at home. 10/10 for the room itself! To the hosts at La Carbonaia Rooms: Thank you for your kindness and the wonderful accommodation — but please be more transparent about the situation around the parking areas and risks in the immediate area, especially for international guests who are unfamiliar with the local dynamics. It would make a difference.
⚠️ Unfortunately, Agrigento is a different story. We would strongly advise other travelers to avoid staying overnight in Agrigento. Although we followed the host’s suggestion (via Booking message) and parked our rental car at the paid blue-line spots near Piazza Ravanusella, we encountered a very unpleasant and disturbing situation. Apparently, this parking area is “claimed” by a group of local street guys (a kind of mini-gang), something that was never communicated or mentioned in advance. After spending a wonderful day exploring the Valley of the Temples and Scala dei Turchi, we returned to the city as regular tourists — walking along Via Atenea and checking on our rental car parked nearby. Suddenly, a man confronted us aggressively, seemingly because my husband had walked “too confidently” across “his” territory. The man — who acted like the “boss” of a few other younger guys — began shouting, mocking, and eventually throwing food and trash at us. We were physically dirtied, and tensions escalated quickly. Other bystanders stepped in to defend us, which led to a brief physical scuffle. Feeling unsafe, we fled the scene in our car and went to both the local Carabinieri and police stations. Shockingly, neither were willing to help — they literally told us they couldn’t do anything since “we hadn’t been stabbed.” We ended up spending the night in fear and stress, unsure if we or the car would be targeted again. We barely slept and left Agrigento at sunrise, feeling both angry and deeply unsettled. ❌ DO NOT stay overnight in Agrigento. While the Valley of the Temples and Scala dei Turchi are beautiful and worth a day trip, the city of Agrigento itself is not tourist-friendly, especially after dark. It feels unsafe, neglected, and socially unstable. There are visible signs of poverty, disrepair, and street aggression — not what you expect from a welcoming Sicilian destination.
A perfect stay, an impeccable room, immediate check-in, full availability, extremely kind staff, maximum cleanliness and comfort. And yet… a score of 1. Why? Because the guest had an argument in the street with a stranger, and decided it must be the fault of the entire city and therefore… also of our property. The whole story, described in great detail, reads more like a badly written dramatic screenplay than an actual travel review. If you read carefully, it’s clear that he was the one who provoked the situation. “Perhaps because I was walking too confidently” (his own words) through someone else’s “territory,” he got a hostile reaction as if the blame were on the other person for not being impressed by his attitude. When he found someone who didn’t play along, he immediately backed down, and rushed off to the Carabinieri, then to the Police and concluded that the entire city of Agrigento was dangerous. But here’s the most surreal part: they went to both the Carabinieri and the Police, and as they themselves admit both confirmed that nothing could be done… because nothing had happened. And here we are: not having received support from real authorities, he now vents on Booking. That alone says it all. This isn’t a review it’s the whimper of someone who tried to act tough and couldn’t handle the outcome. First he looked for sympathy from the authorities, then, not finding it, he turned to Booking. Readers will know how to judge.

Verified reviewExcellent accommodations in a renovated historic building, the room was very comfortable and everything worked perfectly! A short walk to basically everything in Agrigento, the location can't be beat. Plenty of free (and paid) parking around the property as well. The host Salvatore is also extremely kind, generous, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable with a passion for Sicilian history and cuisine - he has gone to great lengths to restore this historic building, with impressive results.
Nothing - it was flawless, everything was ideal.
Thank you so much for your kind words. It was a real pleasure to host you. As we mentioned, we’re still in the early phase of the restoration and there’s still a lot of work to do but I truly look forward to seeing you again!

Verified reviewBeautiful place, nicely decorated with a very practical design. Very charming, quiet and safe. Perfect location to explore the old town of Agrigento or The Valley of Temples. Grocery shopping around the corner. On the upper level nice kitchen with large fridge to prepare breakfast or meals of your likings. Very friendly host with helpful recommendations.
There is nothing to complain about.
