Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomEverything was good - period.
Maria is the perfect hostess. Her homemade Sicilian breakfast is just unbeatable. Her tips and advice about venues, places to visit and restaurants never fail. Our room was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location, Arenella, is great, with a lovely beach nearby. Most importantly, we truly felt at home in Via Del Mare: this was our second time. And we shall be back.

BrazilWhen paying a part for dinner, it is good to have it written down. We got a bit surprised with the value that did not match the initial value she mentioned.
The property is quite nice and spacious. It is well located so it is nearby the beach. I would still recommend a car to go around. Maria is a really nice hostess, amazing touristic guide, historian and an incredible cook! Her foods were amazing and to be honest the point that own our hearts. The second point would be her knowledge and passion about history and her advices of places to visit. Her breakfast is amazing!!!

LatviaAll was good!
Maria is a very friendly host ready to help in every situation. She gave directions for the best places to visit in Syracuse and Modica and even helped to organise a Syracuse boat trip. The apartment itself is a very suitable for beach holiday e.g. it has a shower outside to use after the beach and plenty of room to dry wet clothes. The beach is also located within a 10 min walk. The breakfast was authentic and very delicious. The location is very convenient when travelling by car. It is not far from the famous historical places such as Syracuse, Noto, Ragusa and Modica. The car can be parked almost everywhere and it's free.

United StatesThe location was perfect! We could walk to the beach, restaurants, and driving to all the sights we wanted to see was within 30 min or so. The lovely tiled room was large, and the bathroom was spotless!! We walked directly out to our patio with a swinging seat and table and chairs and nice garden! It stayed quite cool even in the 100* weather. The breakfast was fabulous and one morning Maria played Sicilian/Italian music for us! So much fun! Maria and Jessie (I hope I spelled that right) made our trip outstanding with their local connections and deep knowledge of the area!! We definitely want to come back next year!!

GermanyWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at this accommodation. The location is perfect, being just a 7-minute walk from the beach, yet incredibly quiet and peaceful. The cleanliness of the place was impeccable, and we were particularly impressed by the delicious breakfasts every morning. Maria and her family were exceptionally welcoming and kind, always ready with useful travel tips and recommendations. They made us feel right at home and were especially attentive to our child, which we deeply appreciated. Additionally, it's only a 15-minute drive to the tourist area of Syracuse, which made exploring very convenient. This stay exceeded my expectations. We highly recommend staying here for a delightful and comfortable experience. Granni saluti di Christiani

NorwayAnother restaurant or two that we could walk to in the evening, would have been fine, but on the other hand; is was peaseful and quiet. A consequence is that you will need a car to get around.
Where to begin ? The breakfast was different every day with home made and local bread, vegetables, fruit, cheese , salami and fantastic cookies with pistachiocream or other fillings. Every morning we had a "meeting" with Maria, who advised of all the local sites to visit and a how to get there. In particular she urged us to go to the Greek amfi theater and watch the greek tragedy played out in the dark. The room service was extra, like hanging out/taking in wet textiles as weather changed. We did not ask her. She did think of everything and with a big smile from early until late. Could not been better. The house with the garden with flowers and trees was beautiful, the room with bathroom was 100% clean and tidy as the rest of the property. The outside terasse with space for each room was nice. RussiaFirst of all, Arenella has an advantageous location for travelling around south of Sicily. It's just one hour driving by car from Catania airport, 15 min from Siracusa, and also within one hour to most of local places of interest (Noto, Modica, Marzamemi etc). Parking is free just near the house. Local beach is not big, but also pretty nice, with clean water and very flat bottom. The beach is 5 min walking along the street. And of course, the owner Signora Maria was very helpful, she was trying to do the best for the guests: providing maps, planning routes, giving useful advices. The italian breakfast was perfect and plentiful, the apartments were absolutely clean and she also did everyday cleaning that is not common for such type of accommodation. We had a feeling, that we visited our sicilian family)). Highly recommended!

Czech RepublicWe had a wonderful time in Maria’s place. The rooms were nicely furnished and very clean. Surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers of her garden, we felt like home. Maria is a great host. She gave us so many recommendations on what to visit around and really spent time with us, explained everything and even borrowed several maps. Thanks to her we made the most out of our stay. Every morning Maria prepared homemade delicious meals for breakfast. It was a lovely stay and we definitely recommend her place!

United KingdomWe liked everything.
We went to Siracusa for a short Easter break in our first ever visit to Sicily. Upon arrival at Via del Mare we were warmly welcomed by Maria and Jessica, who showed us to our spacious, pleasant and impeccably clean room, took us for a quick tour of the property, with special attention to the orchard, and then invited us for a lovely cup of coffee with crunchy Sicilian biscuits at the comfortable dining room. Maria, who is also a tour guide, set the local maps on the table and helped us organise our 3-day visit to the area, booking all the restaurants. Our evening in Noto on the first day was unforgettable. Maria took us herself to many of the hidden gems of Ortigia. And, of course, we also did Siracusa, Avola, Arenella...We felt at home. Breakfast was out of this world, with a range of home made delicacies, including Maria's irresistible jam. We wish we could have stay longer. But we will be back and know where we'll stay. Grazie mille, Maria, Jessica and Elio.
