Matera is a breathtaking place to experience. Le Dodici Lune was truly the icing on the cake! The cutest cave rooms, courtyard, and an incredible dining room/restaurant right in the heart of the Matera's old cave city (Sassi di Matera). Le Dodici Lune was convenient (super close to a primary parking lot & the park entrance for hiking), plus so many restaurants all in walking distance around the old city. Antonella was pleasant to message with, and Mariateresa was a savior! Breakfast buffet is a must, it's delicious, fresh, and convenient! As for visiting Matera, Even in the middle of summer during the height of tourism season, I found myself wandering stone streets with peaceful silence and nature sounds a good portion of my stay. There is so much magic in this place, I genuinely cannot wait to return!

I loved this property so much. I fell in love with the Booking listing images, but nothing prepares you for how beautiful it truly is. What I didn't like is that I couldn't move in and stay forever. :,(

We absolutely loved this place! We came as a family of 4 with my 2 daughters aged 5 and 7. My 7 year old says it's her favourite place on our 2 week Italian holiday and wants to come to stay every year! The cool inside the cave was a welcome oasis from the July Matera heat! We were blown away by the size (huge), stylish interior design and modernity of our cave dwelling suite. Even better than the pictures! Loved that we were told the story behind the room we stayed in. The owners are so kind and welcoming. They provided recommendations etc. Location was fantastic and easily walkable to everything (even with our young kids)! Breakfast was simple continental style with a few hot options on buffet but perfectly satisfying and all 4 of us were happy enough. Excellent granola for me, the girls loved the chocolate cake and savoury foccacia type bites that my husband enjoys! Matera is such a unique city and definitely worth the visit...and if you do....stay here!

Very cute hotel in the middle of the Sassi - if you book this accomodation, you can completely enjoy the Sassi without taking a step out of it for the time of your stay. The staff recommends you things to do. The breakfast was very great. The hotel room was very cozy, they even wrote a letter about who has lived in the cave before.

The breakfast wasn’t filled up once it was served. However, there was still a lot which was offered, so it wasn’t a problem. The cave can “stink” a little bit and be a bit humid, but this is just the nature of it. One little thing, we were sleeping in a cave which was build by bricks - some rooms are truly a cave, so this was a little bit disappointing, assuming all rooms would be caves.

Wonderful location in the old city. This beautiful boutique hotel and breakfast will not disappoint. There are many stairs to get to the hotel. The taxi can only take you up to the old city then you walk down many stairs.

    Amazing atmosphere, great breakfast.

Dehumidifiers didn't seem to be working well, so it was a bit damp, but the temperature was perfectly cool.

This was a very unique property, I’ve never stayed in a place like it. You felt it’s history.

There was nothing to dislike however you do need to trek a little to arrive to it so I would pack lightly.

Our stay at Le Dodici Lune was wonderful. The property was beautiful and the room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They showed us important sites and booked us a taxi to get us back to our car so we didn’t have to lug our luggage through the many many stairways of Matera.

Away from the busier main tourist areas. Delightful ‘cave’ rooms and beautiful dining/breakfast area. Lovely breakfast.

Reception closed for a period during the day. A little tricky to find with a lot of steps to negotiate.
