Words can't express how beautiful this place is. The room is large, comfortable and immaculate. The little patio looks out on the sassi. At night the view is magical. Good location. Close to restaurants. And Elizabetta prepared us a delightful breakfast every morning.

The area seems to be a place where kids hangs out till early hours of the morning and was quite noisy

This booking is located in the ZTL/walking area of Matera - so if you drive you will need to pay for parking. We found a lot about a 4 minute walk away. It was easy to find and centrally located. The booking consists of a large open room with the cave style walls, an open loft with two twin beds upstairs and a bathroom with a nice shower. The main room has a queen bed, a couch/sitting area, a desk, a wardrobe and a dresser. We were very comfortable. The owner was kind and the breakfast was good. We were able to use the refrigerator and kitchen that is located in the room next to the room we slept in. There is no balcony. If you walk 5 steps from the front door, you can see a lovely view of the city in the day time. The night time view is more limited and better if you walk about 1 minute up the hill to see the lights of the town at night. Overall, a great place and I would recommend it.

At the time there were workman outside the property so on Monday we got woken up quite early by noises, but it was out of control for the property owners and it didn’t bother us much.

Everything: location, size of the apartment, jacuzzi, comfortable bed and best breakfast with freshly squeezed juices, warm croissants and all.

Perhaps, that in the morning only, there can be people passing by in front of the rooms, and if they are noisy, you hear them... Generally, it's quiet

Great location, at the beginning of the Sassi, so I could park just 5' walk from THE B&B. Parking is not allowed inside the Cave area, so this is very important, otherwise, you need to walk a lot with your luggage to get there. The B&B, is indeed inside a cave, very authentic and well designed with "old fashioned" details, really matching the ambience. Our room can accommodate 4 people, the 2 upstairs in nice and convenient attic with a window with spectacular view. It's definately worth it staying here. There is also a very spacious double with a round bath on its own, it's balcony, a very romantic and well equipped room.

Wonderful restoration of a cave dwelling, very authentic touches. Great location and exceptional views. Our host, Elizabeth, was very friendly, and breakfast was delicious. I would definitely recommend Locus Amoenus to friends.

A wonderful vacation in beautiful Matera :) We could feel the historical spirit of the old town, take a walk along the mountain paths. In the evening, Matera is beautifully lit up, the church bells ring. Very idyllic, romantic environment, and very quiet in Sassy. You need to live here for at least two days to feel what life was like here a few thousand years ago...

What a truly memorable experience from start to finish. The accommodation is beyond outstanding and impressive. We were greeted by wonderful hosts and breakfast was amazing. Matera is a breathtaking place and this accommodation matches its town so well..what a find!

I've left Matera knowing this trip was a dream and beyond expectation. We knew the city itself was magical and our accommodation added to that magic. What a prime location! When traveling within Italy and its ZTL zones, parking can always be a challenge. This was an easy walk from the lot, through a main square and around the corner to the booking. When entering, the accommodation was exactly as described, no, BETTER. We had the luck of being there on its biggest feast day which that alone is an amazing experience in itself. The city was bustling with people but we were able to check in before roads became blocked. The view from our room was beyond words and literally, right outside our doorstep. All the main sites were nearby and closer than expected. Our host was excellent in communicating with us and made sure to reach out the day before. She and her husband greeted us warmly on arrival and showed us the basics of the beautiful space. They made sure to give us a heads up about the history of Matera which was very much appreciated along with tips on what to expect on this very important feast day. We were only there for one night and wished we could have stayed longer. Our breakfast the next day was perfection! Ample and delicious. I hope to visit again soon and would book here without hesitation. Thank you Elizabetta!

The View from the room is stunning. Spa bath was incredibly nice for relaxing every evening. The place was super clean, fresh towels and bed was super comfortable. Fridge for keeping water cold in. Room was really spacious. Good WiFi. Easy to contact and carried our bags in on arrival. 10-15 minute walk from the train station Breakfast was nice but would have preferred more savoury options as we don't usually cake and sweet stuff for breakfast.
