How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe house is full of old world charm. It hasn’t been spoilt by modernisation and is an absolute delight to stay in. Mario the host is wonderful kind and helpful and made us feel welcome within his home and town. We couldn’t recommend it more highly.
There was nothing not like about the property.

Verified review. If you view this property through rose tinted glasses then you are in for a treat. Yes it's a old plazzio with a certain charm and history but unfortunately that's where part of the problem lies. The kitchen has lots of pots pans plates utensils a microwave fridge freezer and a washing machine. Gas hob. Tea towels cleaning products The bathroom is functional and clean. With plenty of toiletries should you need them. The lounge and bedroom are clean. The dining area is clean. The apartment is large with interconnecting doors. That can be locked. The setting the village of Gerace is stunning.
On the morning of our arrival I contacted the owner to let him know the approximate time of our arrival via booking.com we had no response. We arrived in the village about 17:30. If you use Google maps with the address that is on booking.com you will be taken to the other side of the village with absolutely no hope of finding the property. After wandering around aimlessly for about half hour we decided to look for the centre of the village, we asked a couple of people they had no idea where the property was, I tried ringing the owner no answer. By this time it was gone 18:00 we were tired after a long journey. By sheer luck We just happened to ask a women who knew the owner Mario at the tobacconist. Mario showed us the property which as stated earlier bears no resemblance to the address on booking. If we had not stumbled across a women who knew the owner I'm not sure what we would have done as their had been no communication from the owner at all. We had left the car at the other side of the village so we had to walk back get the car so we could collect our belongings. Be aware parking in the centre of the village is difficult we where very lucky to get a parking spot. Once we moved the car closer to the property we had to carry suitcase up the alleyways to the house as the cobble streets will wreak the suitcase wheels. The apartment we had was up a flight of stairs so more lugging if elderly or with health issues you may find this difficult. Once in the apartment we where shown the sitting area (shared) bedroom bathroom and kitchen. I don't know where to start, although the apartment is stuffed full with old furniture the whole place is tired and not of a great standard. The kitchen is old and tatty albeit clean. And it's shared something that evaded me when booking ! That's my fault but shared kitchen that's not acceptable at these prices.

Verified reviewIt is really quite hard to find and it looked like it was last done up in the 70's. However for a genuine experience you couldn't fault it.

Verified reviewWe happily extended our stay at Gerace and Palazzo Caracciolo for another two nights. I can only repeat what I wrote commenting on the first night's impressions: It was the most unusual place I've ever stayed. The "palazzo" is real and very autentic. You cen touch the ages of it's history and feel the atmosphere of this place. It's worth money much bigger than it costs. Rooms are big and comfortable. Furnished also with old furniture (some of them remembering Napoleon Bonaparte times). At the same time you can use bathrooms with hot water, very well equiped kitchen and nice, full of plants terrace. Also the town is magic and worth seeing. We spend wonderful time in Palazzo Caracciole, in Gerace and we're very happy we met Mario - the owner. Hi is wonderful as much as the Palazzo. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for authenticity, amazing atmosphere and communing with history.
For me everything was perfect.

Verified reviewAn amazing place, full of character and absolutely superb location. This is an old house subdivided into guest rooms. So not like your standard hotel.
