Our accommodation was in the heart of Matera with a large, private terrace offering spectacular views of this unique town, it couldn’t have been more perfect. The property was beautifully renovated, in-keeping with its historic past, and immaculately clean. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay there longer! Our host Giacomo was very helpful and friendly and we will definitely be staying there again.

Giacomo was such a lovely and friendly host. Pietragialla far exceeded our expectations. The view from our terrace was beyond incredible, the room was comfortable and kept cool, and we enjoyed the little breakfast spread available. It was very conveniently located, a quick walk from parking outside of the ZTL but very close to everything we wanted to see in the historic center. We only wish we were able to spend more time in Matera!

I've been Matera on June, and room with terrace was perfect. Though location was hard to reach myself, staff came to bus station for pick-up and it was really thankful. (Drop-off service also) A/C was working well too.

It was a beautiful cave stay with good facilities.

There are a few problems . 1. The AC broke down on the last night of our stay and was giving out hot air. It was a very hot night so that made the stay uncomfortable. The owner was very responsive and solved it for a few hours it, but the problem reappeared so we barely got sleep. 2. The parking and transfer from parking is not transparent and involves hidden fees. We were told that the parking will be 20 euros per day but no one mentioned to us that the shuttle transfer ( 5 mins ride ) will cost 10 euros per way. It is fine to charge it but these costs should be disclosed transparently by the host and/or the parking facility. The shuttle was also 15 minutes later than the arranged time on the morning of our flight.

We booked the entire rooms of Pietragialla and we loved the location and the accommodation. It’s a magical place. We highly recommend it. It’s peaceful and clean with unbelievable views (belvedere room). We would stay again.

The prepacked Breakfast was very sweet (Nutella, jams, fette biscottate with teas and no coffee) which is already in the room. Fresh croissants delivered to the rooms in the morning or some sort of breakfast area is best. Seating area for the belvedere rooms can be improved to add in some couches.

This was the most amazing place to stay to experience the Sassi in the best way. The shower cut from the rock was just unbelievable! We had the best of both worlds as the other room had a beautiful terrace with a view of the cathedral so we all went to eat breakfast there. We had everything we could want and Giacomo was the most attentive host and so friendly. Amazing experience for how much we paid. We can't wait to come back!

The only shame was that we only booked for one night. Next time we'll have to stay longer so that we can make the most of the amazing facilities!

My wife and I have traveled to many countries and Matera is the most interesting city we have visited. It has an amazing history dating back thousands of years. Our cave room was very nice with a very large terrace with great views of old Matera - there are many nice restaurants very near the hotel - we were able to walk to all of the major sites - we would like to thank Giacomo for his hospitality - he is great host and even provided transportation to and from the bus station!

    everything was perfect

Spacious, clean, comfortable and unique.Very nice atmosphere in a great location. The staff was very friendly and made us coffee and was very helpful.

The breakfast was just prepackaged crackers, jam and a few muffins. But that wasn’t a big deal because you want to eat somewhere outside and try one of the many different and delicious pastries.

Breakfast was not what I expected when it mentioned free breakfast, very basic stuff from grocery shelf.

our overall experience in Pietragialla was superb! the host, Giacomo, was amazing. He’s very friendly and very thoughtful of the services he provide. He picked us up and dropped off at the bus station. Our room (Belvedere) has the best view of Sassi (Old Matera) from its huge private balcony. Simple breakfast and few bottles of assorted non-alcoholic drinks were included (replenished daily). the room was pristine, and comfortable. housekeeping is daily. the location is perfect for walking and sightseeing. We highly recommend this hotel.
