How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewPlace itself was very charming and had a nice view. Owner and staff were kind. It was clean.
Shower went from really cold to really hot. Shared bathroom, which I hadn’t noticed on booking.com when I booked. Had to park my car 600 meters away from the hotel and with a heavy suitcase it was a disaster. Also lots of stairs to get to the place. Owner was nice, but I noticed that the other locals were very grumpy to tourists. And I get it, there were a lot of tourists.

Verified reviewThe balcony was lovely, whilst it was shared every time I wanted to use it I had it to myself. It’s in a great location for getting down to the sea. Nicole was very friendly and super helpful and provided recommendations and booked a boat trip for me.

Verified reviewLocation was very good for us as close to places of interest. Great view from bedroom window balcony
Owner made it very difficult for us to get into apartment as we turned up later than expected and that was out of our control. Rude on phone but eventually she got into gear and arranged for a friend to let us into the unit.

Verified reviewQuiet town, great view, very clean - especially the bathroom 🤩
My only possible complaint was that the bed was quite hard but that was common among all our accommodations in Italy!

Verified reviewThe staff were helpful in recommending restaurants and getting reservations.
This is not the place to stay if you are an older person. There are numerous stairs to navigate getting there. Then you have to go up a very narrow staircase to get to your room. It was supposed to have a partial sea view. What that actually meant is if you stuck your head out the window you then had a partial sea view.

Verified reviewI loved the shared balcony with clothes lines. I could have sat there forever. You can see the town, the hillside of grapevines and the sea and it was always a good sunset. Quiet neighborhood. Loved the town, especially in the am and pm.
I had thought I was getting my own balcony but the shared one was nice enough. The bathroom and balcony are up the steep marble stairs

Verified reviewOverall, the place was clean and nice. The view through the window was just great. We also appreciated the possibility to make hot drinks.
Drying the towels was a bit an issue, possibly because of the season - just before the heating started. For the place that does not offer breakfast, would be good to have some plates and cutlery.

Verified reviewIt was really close to the beach. Very comfortable and clean.
People could look into the bathroom through the window but then we realized there were shutters that you could close to make it private.

Verified reviewCorniglia was such a little gem of a spot and our room was in the ideal location! With a window view of the mountain side and the ocean, we woke up to fresh air and stunning views every morning. It was also a short walk to a little alcove swimming spot that almost felt like a private beach, and close to all the local restaurants and bars. Nicole was a very helpful and responsive host. We'd definitely stay again!
Be prepared to eat out or bring no perishables, as there's no fridge or kitchen facilities at the accommodation which didn't bother us too much.

Verified reviewThe location. This was good. Armando’s help was good and appreciated.
The size of the room - very squashed and the steep stairs to the shared bathroom. The bath mat was not changed once snd should be each day with do many sharing. The “kitchen facility“ was almost a joke.

Verified reviewVery clean, comfortable, well-supplied with shower gel etc. A good view of the hill village and the hill opposite and if you leaned right out of the window you could see the sea. Good air conditioning, very important in the heat. A comfortable stay in a quiet spot away from the busy main street which is also important otherwise you are kept awake by late night diners and drinkers. This was very quiet, around the side of the hill with only a few people walking past. Nicole was very efficient at communicating and sent a good video to show how to find the room though. Answered very promptly, which helps if you are a stranger to the place.
It did seem a lot of money for a single traveller, 143 euros. I hadn't spotted the 20 euros extra for cleaning the room when I booked it so it was a bit of a shock. In Florence I only paid 70 euros for a much larger room, and in Pistoia I paid 76 for an amazingly large room including a marvellous breakfast. But I think it must be that the Cinque Terre is expensive generally and often places charge you the full rate for a double room even though it is single occupancy. Also, I preferred the accommodation which you got to meet the owner. Waiting for 20 minutes in the hot midday sun with no shelter for the crowded bus up to the village was an ordeal. A bus every ten minutes would have sorted out the long queue - people were pushing and shoving to get on it because it was so hot waiting - no shade to wait in. That is not the fault of the accommodation but a point to make to the local Tourist Board! I would have walked but I had heavy luggage.

Verified reviewCozy room with a sea view in the most authentic of the cinque terre towns (Corniglia). Comfortable stay and a great starting point for hiking the more challenging trails.
No garbage bin or towel hooks in the shared bathroom. The shared balcony is directly outside the shared bathroom window 😕.
