How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHotel Review We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. The room itself was spacious, but the décor felt very outdated, more like a trip back to the 1980s. Kitchenette & Basic Supplies The kitchenette was functional but missing an oven, and the hood light didn’t work, which made cooking inconvenient. Toiletries (soap, shampoo, dish soap) were provided only on the first day. Afterwards, we had to go down to reception daily to ask for more. While the staff was friendly and always supplied what we needed, this process became tiring. There was also no daily cleaning, no towel replacement, and no change of bed linen throughout our stay. Parking One of the biggest issues was parking. Hotel parking requires an additional daily fee, which is disappointing given the room price. Free street parking around the hotel is very limited, creating constant competition for spots – much like trying to find parking in a crowded city. Comfort & Sleep Instead of proper duvets, only wool blankets were provided, without covers. This means your body comes into direct contact with the blanket, which is uncomfortable and feels unhygienic. I highly doubt these blankets are washed frequently between guests, which is quite unpleasant. Wi-Fi & Showers The Wi-Fi was unstable, often disconnecting and requiring multiple logins per day. Our room had two showers: one was very small with an old, uncomfortable showerhead, while the larger one had a modern head but wasn’t sealed properly, causing water to leak onto the bathroom floor. Positives To be fair, the room was very clean upon arrival. The hotel is also close to a public beach and offers access to a nearby water park. However, the included access only covers the swimming pool – using the water slides requires an extra fee, which was disappointing. Conclusion Although the staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel itself feels old, poorly maintained, and offers a service level of no more than 2 stars.

Verified reviewNice, spatious apartment with lake view, close to small public beach and easy walkable distance to Baveno center. 2 supermarkets in 4 and 10 minutes walk. Apartment has air condition what is super in temps over 30C and 26C during night. Just remember to close balcony doors to get it turned on. Stuff was helpful and didn’t force a lot to pay 5% tip what was already printed in receipt. We managed every night to find place in parking next to residence as parking on site is too expensive (16,50 per night) Kitchen small but well equipped-enough plates, coffee cups, cuttlery and glasses.
Street is noisy, but as air conditioning runs only while doors closed, it is not a problem. With windows and doors closed, it is silent inside. 2 bedrooms has windows just to corridor so some may feel uncomfortable. We used living room as 3rd bedroom.

Verified reviewThe apartment was nice, well equipped and clean. The location is good - a short walk from the center (10 mins) and from the beach (5mins). There is also a supermarket near by.
You have to pay for the parking, unless you are lucky and find free parking on the street. There was an extra 5% service charge included in the bill, even though there was really no service to speak of - the apartment is not cleaned during the stay, and you have to take out your waste to the recycling containers by yourself - the staff are nice but they only say hello and take you to your room, what service?

Verified reviewBeautiful historic residence with a lovely staff. Nice and spacious apartment with good beds, well equipped kitchen, large bathroom and nice balcony. Located within few minutes walk from a all beach of Lago Maggiore and a supermarked also just a few minutes walk away. - everything we needed for three nights by the lake!
Playroom at -1 could be nicer and more comfortable for kids, but was ok for at couple table soccer matches :)

Verified reviewI rarely write comments in a review, but this time I have to! First of all, I want to express my gratitude to the hotel staff. Thank you for such hospitality. You are a Real Team and your management should know this :-) !!! Special thanks to Patricia at the reception, you are the Heart of this hotel! When a Professional is in his place and treats guests with such care, we felt at home, even better, cause this was Italy! :-)) The hotel is in a great location, 1 minute to the park with the beach, the Port is a 5-minute walk, there are boats which bring you to any island or neighboring towns, along the way there are restaurants and cafes with excellent Italian coffee. A supermarket with everything you need is 2 minutes from the hotel. View from the balcony on the lake is stunning. But even if the windows are overlooking the garden - there are wonderful mountains! we were with a small Spitz, I did not warn about this in advance, while we were checking-in and taking luggage from the car - water and a mat for the dog were brought to the room. The hotel is 100% pet friendly! We were a large group of friends, 12 people, and everyone was very pleased with the stay at the hotel. Baveno and Residence Carl&Do HIGH RECOMMENDED !

Verified reviewThe hotel is in a great location, with spacious and clean rooms that are equipped with air conditioning. We appreciated the free parking available around the hotel and the convenience of having a great supermarket just around the corner. The staff was extremely helpful and assisted us with whatever we needed. The hotel also provides free access to a pool which is 5 minutes drive from the hotel
Parking at the hotel comes at an extra cost, and although we always found a place to park, the free parking around the hotel was sometimes a bit far. Additionally, the apartment's decor felt a little old-fashioned.
