Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing to dislike (a few stairs up to the residence but this is standard for Italy!)
The residence is in an excellent location. A short walk to all the tourist sites of the old town. Many excellent eateries close by. The best part of our stay was the wonderful and caring hospitality shown to us by Carlo who made sure we were always looked after. We can’t speak highly enough of the wonderful service we received from him. Grazie Mille Carlo!

LiechtensteinAccommodation Our stay at Residenza Palazzo Marchesini was truly exceptional. As a family of five (two parents with three adult children), we found the layout of the accommodation ideal for our needs. The residence comprises two separate units: one well-appointed room for two guests with a private bathroom and balcony, and a second, spacious area for three, including a double bedroom and an adjoining single room with its own bathroom. We appreciated the shared living room, where we enjoyed our breakfast each morning and had access to another balcony. The entire residence was immaculately clean, thoughtfully maintained, and tastefully furnished. We also had the convenience of parking our car securely in the inner courtyard. The comfort and attention to detail made our stay feel both relaxed and luxurious. This is an accommodation we would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Bologna! Host Carlo, our gracious host, made our stay truly unforgettable. From the very beginning, he welcomed us warmly and ensured that every detail was taken care of. Despite our delayed arrival, he thoughtfully secured a table for us at a nearby restaurant. Throughout our stay, Carlo shared fantastic local tips and restaurant recommendations that allowed us to explore Bologna beyond the typical tourist spots—thank you, Carlo! Each morning, he prepared a rich, delicious, and nourishing breakfast, taking great care to accommodate all our wishes. One of the highlights of our visit was enjoying an apéritif with Carlo on the rooftop terrace, where we had a stunning view of Bologna’s landmarks—a memorable and unique experience. His hospitality was impeccable, and his passion for making guests feel at home was evident in every gesture. Location & Surroundings The location of Residenza Palazzo Marchesini is simply perfect. Situated close to the historic center, all major sights and landmarks were within walking distance.

We liked how spacious, comfortable and clean everything was. The property has so much charm and character. The breakfast was delicious! Carlo is a wonderful host. He was quick to respond to all my questions. He carried our luggage up the stairs and helped arrange restaurant and taxi reservations. He showed us a lovely view from the rooftop. You won’t find a nicer host!!! It was a bit of a splurge for us, but we are happy we stayed. Highly recommend!

SpainWhat can I say, this stay was perfect. Although I was traveling to Bologna for professional reasons, my time at the Palazzo Marchesini felt like the most relaxing retreat. My host, Carlo, went the extra mile to make me feel like home. First of all, he showed me around the property, giving an overview of its history and showing me the magnificent skyline view from the rooftop. The breakfast was -as everything during my stay there- an absolute delight. Ahead of the trip, Carlo sent a message to inquire about my dietary preferences. The food was abundant and good quality, and Carlo made sure I had everything I needed. The fluffy omelette with pancetta will live in my dreams for a long time. On top of that, the dining room is a majestic space, which contributed to a relaxing morning atmosphere before getting on with the day at BolognaFiere. The charm of Bologna helps in having a positive outlook on everything around you, but Carlo enhanced this feeling. He was really accommodating, making sure my stay was satisfying. His knowledge about the city, its quirks and hidden gems came in handy more than once -finding us a dinner table for 5 during Bologna book fair, at a restaurant that turned out to be great- and his thoughtful attitude made him an exceptional person to be around. All in all, I would recommend this place anytime!

Carlo! Is the host with the most! Supremely helpful with advice on tours, authentic restaurants and directions. Ample, delicious breakfast in a room full of history. . And that 360 degree view of bologna from the rooftop...was breathtaking. Beautifully antique and grand accommodation within walking distance to all of the historical centre. My bedroom balcony view was dreamy. And so silent despite the vibrancy on the street. I slept deeply. The ancient timber staircase creaked in the most lovely way and made me think of the countless others that have climbed it and that in some small way I too was part of this palazzos history.

United StatesBe prepared to climb about 70 steps to reach the apartment. Carlo will help with your bags.
Residenza Palazzo Marchesini is as close as you can get to being a houseguest in a centuries-old, family-owned Bologna palazzo, because that's what it is. You'll be greeted by Carlo, the owner, a lifelong Bolognese who is dedicated to your comfort and gives excellent advice for cultural visits and restaurants. You'll stay in a simple, very comfortable bedroom with a comfortable bed, effective shower, and excellent air conditioner. Breakfast is served in a huge room full of family portraits, objets d'art, and two pianos. Carlo's terrace offers an amazing view of the beautiful historic center of Bologna. He is a true gentleman and a great host.

United StatesNothing!
The view from the patio and rooftop was spectacular! We had breakfast our first morning on the patio, surrounded by multitudes of flowering roses and other plants, red tile rooftops, and church bells. The breakfast was plentiful, served by Carlo and his partner, who were attentive and friendly. Carlo made us feel truly welcome--not like we were just staying there in a B&B. He gave us excellent dinner recommendations and helped with reservations if needed. We never made it back to the palazzo to take him up on the afternoon aperitif due to our sightseeing, but he offered every day, and we would have enjoyed that for sure. Being dog lovers and missing ours at home, we were delighted to meet his little black dog (Blythe--not sure how to spell it). She was so sweet, friendly, and well behaved! Carlo was kind enough to volunteer to help carry our (heavy) luggage up many stairs--we knew that there was no elevator but it was totally worth it to stay in this historic palazzo. (We will pack lighter next time and bring back fewer gifts!) Our son nicknamed him "Papa Carlo" because he always made us feel at home.

This is a beautifully maintained historic family home in the heart of Bologna - picturesque and rooms are gorgeous with views of the red rooftops and bell tower. There is a parking spot available in the courtyard. This is a true vacation getaway and we will be recommending to friends and family!
