How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe best hotel I’ve ever stayed in- and I’ve stayed in many 5 star hotels. Five star quality at 4 star prices, all that’s missing is having your bags carried to the room- but who needs that :-) The staff accommodated my special needs with grace and kindness. Thank you!
Reservations for dinner had to be made through the front desk- better to make them directly but there’s probably a good reason for that.

Hotel rooms had nothing special. Almost all of the hotel I've stayed at give complimentary water each day. This hotel did not have water bottles in the room, they did not have an iron, they did not have an electric kettle for guest to make teas. Basic hotel room perks were not available. The breakfast coffee was not good at all. It was an automatic machine, but the coffee was very bad quality. Disappointing for an Italian hotel!

Verified reviewThe hotel was very good and has everything needed to have a fantastic stay which we obviously had over the Christmas period. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious enough for two even though we had their normal economy double room. The food from breakfast which had a big selection from hot to cold was great and dinner was fantastic along with the service by the restaurant staff. Always polite, friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The facilities were spot on with a lovely garden area. Undercover spacious parking lot which was a nice surprise. The free use of the indoor pool was great and if needed also Spa facilities with reasonable prices but we did not use these so cannot comment. We booked the Christmas Eve set dinner and the Christmas Day set lunch which both were fantastic and we were so pleased we booked these, it made our Christmas that little bit more special, so a big thank you to all the restaurant staff, the chefs and kitchen staff, we appreciated all your efforts. The bar area was very comfortable with lots of room to sit and reflect on the day's activities. The bar service by "the best barman in the world" 😊 who was always very friendly and made you feel like you had known him forever! Although this goes for all the staff from the reception to the restaurant staff and the cleaners, I couldn't speak highly enough of them all. The free shuttle service into Assisi (5 minutes) 4 times a day was excellent and saved a 20 minute walk which is a bit hilly, so was very much appreciated for us. The price was also very reasonable for such a lively Hotel. Many many thanks to everyone at the BV Grand Hotel Assisi for making our Christmas stay so comfortable and memorable, we will definitely return in the new year and will recommend the hotel to all our friends.
If I was going to be really picky, although it really wasn't a problem, then I would suggest that they get better food tray warmers for the hot breakfast selection!

Verified reviewWe stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as part of a 5 week car tour. The hotel was well located about two kilometres from Assisi town. The hotel has a good (free), underground car park. We weren’t given much information when we checked on apart from the key and what time breakfast was and there was no information in the room - we had to go back and ask for wifi password etc. As we were checking out on the last day we noticed the staff giving a tourist map to some Italian guests who had just arrived - this would have been useful to have. The rooms were quite nice and a reasonable size and the en-suite had a bath. The rooms were well serviced and cleaned. There was no kettle or cups but there was a fridge. Comfortable beds and plenty of pillows. Whilst perfectly adequate, the hotel and rooms do have a rather dated feeling (it looks like it was built circa 2000 and not much done since). The breakfast was quite adequate. We didn’t use the restaurant in the evening - there was a set menu that always seemed to contain chicken and rabbit as the main course (not much good for a vegetarian - I had contacted hotel beforehand asking about non meat dishes and was told that vegetarians were catered for. We asked at reception but got a rather non committal answer that maybe “the chef could do something”, so we ate out). There was a good heated in door swimming pool. I would give the hotel 6/7 out of 10. Quite good but not exceptional. Assisi though is amazing.
