How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewDear Susie, thank you for your feedback! As stated on the description, the apartment is located in the upper part of the village. I am taking this opportunity to remind the reader and to clarify once again that Manarola, and the Cinque Terre area in general, is a small pedestrian viillage with narrow streets, ups and downs, including stairs... No Taxis! You must be prepared to get (a lot of) exercise! And here is another tip: pack light!

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this apartment in Manarola! The view is simply breathtaking, and the place was super clean and cozy. It had everything we needed – the kitchen was fully equipped, including a coffee machine (though a few more capsules would have been nice), and all the cooking utensils. The host was really kind and even left us some water, prosecco, and beer in the fridge – which was a lovely surprise. Getting to the apartment involves a bit of uphilll walking, but once you’re there, the view makes it all totally worth it.
Thank you for the beautiful review! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. It was a pleasure having you, and we look forward to hosting you again on your next visit here in Cinque Terre

Verified reviewTHE VIEW! We loved the location near the top of Manarola and found three different ways to climb to it offering a variety of challenges for a couple in their mid 50s. Ms. Barbara provided all the detailed information needed to find the apartment and let ourselves in. She helped us with understanding how to best take advantage of Cinque Terre Card and Tourist Card. Bed, bathroom and kitchen were all comfortable and clean. Having laundry available was perfect. Didn't get to have a meal next door but we did take advantage of the cooking class at Nessun Dorma.

Verified reviewGreat, clean apartment with a fantastic vie of the town and sea! Excellent facilities, no complaints. A lot of people complain about the long walk up and admittedly I would be a little winded afterwards (I am 55). But that said, you are in Cinque Terre. Going up to this place is how you get the amazing views. And it helped us keep the weight down from all the wonderful food!
No complaints

Verified reviewThis was a great little apartment for our stay in Manarola. Once you get your luggage up, the hills aren’t too big a deal if you’re in reasonable shape, and there’s a great video that shows you the “quick” way up. Lots of little extra comforts included. The balcony is exceptional. Host is very responsive. Dinner next door at Billy’s is a must. We met a couple at dinner that had stayed in our same apartment 9 years ago and also had great memories of their stay! Thank you for a cozy time, we were sad to leave!
Nothing we didn’t like. Just be aware Manarola isn’t a super luxe place, more simple and comfy and a unique experience in the very charming town. I’d try Monterosso if you wanted more fancy?

Verified reviewLocation was beautiful. Certainly LOTS of steps down to the village, so anyone that has physical limitations should think twice. 240 steps one direction and many more to get to the train station. However...if you're not limited, it was fantastic. Immediately next door to one of the best restaurants in all of the Cinque Terre. Hospitality was excellent, although I would've like to have met the owners/managers in person as initially planned.
I would've like to have seen cleaning services and towels replacements as we were there for 4 days / 3 nights. Also, the shower needs to be sealed as it leaks all over the floor.

Verified reviewView was spectacular. Host was very prompt on responding via the messaging system. Also had a custom recorded video on YouTube so we wouldn't get lost in the twisty alleys. Air Conditioning worked very well and there was a washing machine.
It's a hard walk up the hill to the place.

Verified reviewThe view is worth the trek. The view is spectacular. The place is the perfect size for two people. The host is very responsive, a good communicator and has great recommendations. The vibe of the area is great! This entire Cinque Terre area is a hikers paradise - spectacular vistas sprinkled all through the trails.
Nothing can be done about this due to the topography of the land but if you're not in shape or can't do stairs then this place won't work for you. There are many many stairs to get to this location.
