How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAlessandra was incredibly friendly and helpful. The property is extremely close to Ortigia and makes for an ideal launch point for a number of other local tourist attractions.

Verified reviewThe hotel is located in a convenient area between station and island. The room is well maintained and the host was very kind and helpful.
We had to be careful with the lock of the bathroom door as it was a bit old and we were about to be locked out, although the host lady helped us immediately.

Verified reviewExcellent location near a big (paying) parking lot, and a couple of minutes walk from Ortigia. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Big rooms, comfortable bed, and although we were in a very busy street, the double windows really blocked out all outside noise. The design of the rooms etc was a bit dated, but you can see that on the photo's, and what's 'dated' for one is 'authentic' for someone else.
The host provides very basic groceries for breakfast (supermarket bread, cheese, cereals, some fresh fruit), but as there's no one there in the morning, you have to just help yourself and hope the other guests didn't eat everything. This wasn't clear to us, as this place has a review on google with photo's of a very ample breakfast, which is actually a review for another place. On the other hand: you choose when to have breakfast, and if the breakfast would have been more elaborate with someone there to set it all up etc for you, certainly the price would have been higher.

Verified reviewConvenient location one block from public parking lot (for our rental car) and easy walking distance (3-4 blocks) to Ortegia. Reasonably comfortable room, adequate for our one-night stay, but stairs were a bit of a challenge for my wife, who was still recovering from ankle surgery a year ago. Nicely presented breakfast in sunny kitchen area. Host was extremely helpful and personable.

Verified reviewThe location is truly amazing, with Ortigia just a few minutes walk away. It is also just a short walk from the bus and train station. The whole area felt safe even for a solo traveller. The rooms are very clean, and Alessandra is an amazing host, very helpful and friendly. I wish I would have stayed a few more days in Syracusa.

Verified reviewBreakfast was fine self serve plenty of choice no complaints.
There is no parking available apart from street parking which is nearly impossible. Parking is our first priority and we wrongly thought even after sending additional questions re parking and being told by the host “ there is parking under the structure “ it is not true. So don’t be fooled like we were. The bathroom is very ordinary the toilet has a Masorater pump and you can’t put toilet paper down it or it will block up. You have to use a waste paper bin yuk Apart from that the bathroom always has a slight sewer smell when you entered it. I would think the waters seals in the traps are ineffective or it has been poorly plumbed. I would not go back to this place or recommend it. Oh and buy the way when you do find a park like we did a long way from the accommodation your likely to be accosted by the local thugs poorly dressed up as parking attendants. They demand payment for what is free parking and when you say it’s free parking they say your car needs protection. So we payed. Welcome to this seedy area!!!!

Verified reviewClose to the old town
No parking available, information here is wrong! We searched for a free parking spot for 30 minutes and had to park 500m away. Room was very very noisy. All sounds from the street are basically in your room, also your neighbour's and all water flushing. Loud music from a bar across the street. Impossible to sleep. Breakfast was the most basic during our Sicily trip. Rooms could need a makeover.

Verified reviewThe perfect location, very near Ortigia, the beautiful building with marble stairs and floor
Not enough hot water for everybody. My husband had a hot shower, mine was lukewarm. The breakfast was poor. And the description of the BnB says that there is a parking place included. There is not. You can park on the street if you are lucky. I was quite upset since a parking place was mandatory for me. You shouldn't note there is a parking place if there is not.

Verified reviewLocation is great - 5 min walk to Ortigia, Alexandra is easy to deal with, family room worked well for us.
Other people can stay in rooms at the property - so if you have noisy kids like mine it may affect other guests.
