Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

LithuaniaWould be good to have an electronic kettle and few cups and glasses. As we had wine so needed to buy glasses to enjoy it. Also while it is winter- warm coffee would have been nice to have but as kettle or coffee machine was not there- always needed to buy in restaurants. It is good that there plenty of it just near by.
The property is right in the center, itself is like a museum, so very unique and great experience. Hosts were very welcoming and even offered breakfast as it was a first day of New Year. Was really warm place and comfortable bed, hot water (as we had experience in other places that it was very limited) so was a very nice thing while outside is a bit cold.

CanadaIt’s clean overall, but slight improvement could make it perfect. Perhaps the staff was brushing something off the low ceiling above the bed, there were a lot of white ashes like stuff on the top blanket. The blanket was red in color so the white ashes were pretty clear. We always remove the top blanket anyway as it seems like it’s for decorative purposes. Once removed the mattress and the thin white flat sheet beneath are very clean. I know this may be a bit extra, just a small suggestion - it’d great if there could be some sort of special welcome/ arrangements for special occasions! I informed them that it was my birthday that day. It’d be wonderful if there was a little souvenir or even just a note!
What a special, authentic cave experience! Super spacious and stylish design. My Flintstones dream came true!! Location is awesome too as it’s near the main road, convenient if you’re taking the bus. Even if you drive, it’s also one of the best locations for sure - because it’s mostly flat all the way from nearby parking, much easier when we were carrying suitcases. There were so many other accommodations with winding stairs in the area, would be a nightmare if we booked those. Very quiet once windows were closed too. Comfy mattress and we slept well!

GermanyWe had a wonderful stay. This is a one of kind property that gives you the experience of living in a cave. It has all the necessary amenities and is so tastefully designed and furnished. The owner of the property was kind enough to pick us and drop us off back at the bus station which is quite far from the old town. This definitely goes up on our list of the best places we have stayed in so far.

AustraliaThe staff knew we were arriving by car and yet they failed to inform us we could not drive to drop off bags and not enter the old town ZTL zone which we were not aware of. This basic information should be provided to all guests which was disappointing otherwise it’s a €80 fine for entering the area with 1 small sign that you won’t see.
Beautiful and unique cave hotel room in great location in the old town.

United KingdomEverything was as we expected and helped to create a good understanding of the history of Matera.
The original cave interior has been lovingly retained and has a number of sympathetically added features, the walk in shower, staircase to the bedroom, quirky furniture and subtle lighting. The location is at the opposite end of the new town and allows you the opportunity to enjoy Matera, without too many tourists, especially in the evening. Magic. Easy collection of keys for the property, from the pleasant girls in the museum next door. Owner was kind enough to drive us into the new town on our departure .

CanadaSome minor parts: Coffee machine doesn’t work, clogged drain in the shower room, dust covered towel rack. Can hear people passing by taking, also the music from the restaurant nearby, but it’s part of the vibe, and it’s quiet down after 10pm.
It’s a very beautiful and spacious cave home, right by the canyon. A true sassi under the cliff. The owner has arranged the rides for check in/out. Check-in is easy as the owner has arrange the key pickup at a grotto museum next to the property. We didn’t take the breakfast due to early departure.

GermanyThis place was exceptional - it was a beautiful renovation of a cave. It was always cool but there was an air conditioner or heater that we could use as needed. There was an umbrella that we were able to use and Barbara always helped us with finding tours or booking restaurants. The location is beyond compare - you open the door and you see the sassi. We were able to have breakfast at a local bnb down the road just a few minutes' away. There is literally nothing bad that I can say about this. I will definitely come back and you will have a wonderful experience if you stay here!
