How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

- Too much anxiety, owner called to cancel the booking 2 hours before arriving. - Room has no sunlight, tiny windows only. - No hot water, only lukwarm water after complaining two times, had to take one cold shower. - Single bed was really tiny, not for anyone who is 180cm+. - Unfair charges and behaviour. I asked to change to a room with a better bed for the following night, the owner offered to change the room immediately without waiting. 10 minutes Later I've found out the room is extremely noisy and after complaining about the noise immediately, I got charged 20 euros outside booking.com for "cleaning" the bed sheet that I did not even use (10 euros per washing one bed sheet). - Non sustainable, I was told to run the water for more than 10min just to get the lukewarm water and the air conditioner must be used all the time to keep humid room warm. - No silence hours, I was not able to sleep at 3 a.m. due to intimate noises from other guests. Overall, I can not recommend this accommodation service with it's current state, As a regular visitor to Modica, this is the first time I've felt anxiety and un-welcomed because of the sudden cancellation request (because a family could rent the whole structure and pay more), stress and frustration due to arguments about cold water and finally changing the room to a verify noisy room with no sound isolation with direct access to the street.
Dear guest, your review has given us the opportunity to compare and inspire us to improve, even if your stay was a continuous one of misunderstandings. I had already informed you that there would be other guests, and that as it was New Year's Eve they would probably have disturbed who preferred to go to bed at 11pm, which is why I gave you the option to cancel and give up your reservation myself, keeping the room empty, but you preferred to stay. You booked the single room yourself, so both the size of the bed and the room are already expressly explained and there are also several photos that show it, which is why it has a competitive price, but as you can see many single guests take a double bedroom to have more comfort for little more. Despite this, upon your request for a change I immediately satisfied you (as you also say) by preparing the room I had available, and after you used that room, not for the night, but in any case for an afternoon rest, and after I had already replaced the linen in your previous room, you asked me to return to the previous one as that too was not to your liking, I would like to point out that I do not just replace a sheet when the guest changes, but as you have seen upon returning to the previous room, I replace: sheet , pillow cases, mattress cover and duvet cover, all for the two bedrooms, just for an afternoon nap. As regards the hot water, the first time you had reversed the side of the tap, when I explained to you via message the water then arrived, and in any case on the same day as yours, other guests who booked here on booking did not have any problem, in fact they left a score of 10.

Verified reviewVery clean and modern little single room. Modern shower, bathroom and locks. The personal was very friendly. I had to go to Pozzallo the next day early in den morning. I do not speak Italian and the host organized a taxi for me. Very nice service. Thank you!
